55th Annual Proston Show
- The 55th annual Proston Show will be held at Proston Showgrounds on the Proston-Boondooma Road just west of town from 8:00am this morning through until around 10:00pm tonight. The Proston Show is always a big event in the western South Burnett and today's activities will get underway with trade and stud prime cattle judging and horse-riding events, along with the admission of Ute Muster entries for judging later in the day. This will be followed a Championship Dog Show; and then with show jumping, poultry judging, a big range of pavilion exhibits and wood events - including the famous Proston Post-Ripping Challenge that's always fun to see. Other great things to look out for this year include Viv and Maurie's Shearing Shed with bottle-feeding of lambs; Cheerio The Clown; and the Proston Stockman's Classic; There'll also be a fantastic Fireworks Spectacular at around 7:00pm. In addition - from 6:00pm until late tonight - the Show Society will be running a BBQ, live music and a bar for everyone who wants to party on. Admission to today's Show is $10 for adults, $5 for high school students and $3 for primary school students (under-5s are admitted free). Cent Auction - Blackbutt
- A Cent Auction in aid of the Blackbutt and District Tourism and Heritage Association will be held at the Blackbutt Community Hall in Coulson Street, Blackbutt at 10:00am this morning (doors open at 8:00am). There'll be great prizes to be won, and the $5.00 entry fee includes a free cuppa and 2 free sheets of tickets (additional sheets are 50c each, and can be purchased in advance at the Blackbutt newsagency). Meandu Mine Reunion - Kingaroy
- A Meandu Mine Reunion for people who've worked at Meandu Mine in any capacity over the past 30 years will be held at the Carrollee Hotel in Haly Street, Kingaroy from 11:00am onwards this morning. Pig On A Spit Night - Booie

Rural Kids & Bubs Markets - Nanango
- The first-ever "Rural Kids & Bubs Markets" will be held at the Nanango Cultural Centre in George Street, Nanango from 8:30am to around 1:00pm today. Because most goods at the market are pre-loved, you'll be able to buy or sell maternity wear, baby & kids' clothes, toys, prams, strollers, nursery furniture, car seats, etc at prices that can be as much as 80% below retail prices. This means that expectant and new mums can buy the essentials they'll be needing at an affordable price. However, there'll also be new goods on offer for extra special Christmas gifts, as well as a sausage sizzle and drinks on sale. Kingaroy Community Garden Meeting
- The Kingaroy Community Garden group will be holding their third meeting for 2013 at the Pound Street community garden (just at the rear of the Senior Citizens Park) from 9:00am to 11:00am this morning. The community garden is a joint initiative of RHealth, BIEDO and the South Burnett Regional Council's Healthy Communities initiative, and it allows people interested in learning more about permaculture, soils, composting, worms, seed saving, insects and trees to jointly cultivate the community garden and share in the fresh produce that it produces. Anyone who'd like to get involved in this project is very welcome to come along (BYO chair, sun protection, water bottle, gardening gloves and closed-toe shoes) and the group meets roughly once a fortnight. Shave For A Cure Tupperware Party - Nanango
- The Manumbar Mob will be holding a Tupperware Party at the CWA Hall in Fitzroy Street, Nanango at 11:00am today as a fundraiser for their family's 2013 Shave For A Cure effort. 13th Annual Maidenwell Folk Gathering
- The second day of the 13th annual Maidenwell Folk Gathering will get underway at around 10:00am this morning at the Maidenwell Hotel and continue right through until late tonight (there'll also be a final day of folk music revelries tomorrow). The Folk Gathering is a pure folk music event (ie fully acoustic - no electrics are allowed) and because of this has built up a very loyal following over the years. A highlight of today's Festival activities will be chalkboarding which will kick off during the afternoon. The Festival itself is completely free to attend and there's also free camping available around the hotel if you want to stay overnight. Lots of great food will be available too but no BYO is allowed - you'll need to get your reasonably priced supplies from the Maidenwell Hotel if you want to party really hard. More details? South Burnett Home Based Business Expo - Kingaroy
- The South Burnett Home Based Business Group will be holding their first Expo for 2013 in Kingaroy RSL's Tobruk Room off Short Street, Kingaroy from 10:00am to around 4:00pm today. The Expo will showcase a wide variety of South Burnett home-based businesses and there'll also be demonstrations, a major lucky door prize and a cent auction. Admission is free. More details? Saturday Cricket
- After several weeks of partial (or complete) wash-outs, South Burnett cricketers will be playing a lot of finals today, and fans can expect to see some great cricket if the weather holds. In A-grade, Kingaroy Warriors will play the Nanango Scorpions in a preliminary final at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy. And in B-grade, Kingaroy Warriors will play the Wondai Wolves in the 2013 B-Grade Grand Final at Taabinga State School in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy. Meanwhile - at Murgon - Murgon Magic will play Murgon Colts in the 2013 Plate Final at the Murgon Sportsgrounds. All matches are one day games and get underway at 12:00 noon. Spectators and supporters are very welcome!
Ulysses Motor Cycle Club Meeting - Kingaroy

2013 Wine & Food In The Park Festival
- CANCELLED: The 15th annual Wine & Food In The Park Festival will be held at Memorial Park in Haly Street, Kingaroy from 11:00am this morning through to 8:00pm tonight. The Festival - which has steadily grown to become the biggest single festival held in the South Burnett Regional Council's area as well as the region's most loved Autumn get-together - will feature all its regular attractions (such as the Giant Wine Tent, exotic Food Court, wet bar and a jam-packed program of live entertainment) along with several new things including craft beer tastings. Featured acts on the main stage for 2013 include the zany Memphis Moovers, GoldNJazz, the Afro-Brazilian Carnivale, The Blues Excuse, and the Kingaroy State High School Band. The Festival's popular (and usually outrageous!) street performers will also be wending their way through the crowds all day, and there'll also be carnival rides for children on the grounds too. Admission is $15 per head for adults (under-18s can get in for free!). And after the Festival winds down some local entertainment venues in Kingaroy will be holding post-WAFITP parties for revellers who want to carry on into the night. Note: This Festival was cancelled on Sunday 03-Mar-13 because of flooding at Memorial Park. It will be held again on the second Saturday in March 2014.
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy

Big Jam In The Bush - Ballogie
- Billy Tea and Shirley - the proprietors of Billy Bong Station at 39 Barrett Road, Ballogie (about 30km north of Tingoora on the Durong-Chinchilla road) - will be holding a Big Jam In The Bush day for musicians and music fans alike from 11:00am this morning through until around 1:00am tomorrow morning. There'll be a full stage set up with everything but a drum kit so that aspiring musicians can simply plug in and play. There'll also be free overnight camping available in the grounds and a BBQ will be supplied too - just bring a plate of your favourite specialty for sharing to cover the admission fee (plus whatever you want to eat and drink personally, of course!). GT Open Mic Jam Session - Wondai
- The Cecil Hotel at 58 Mackenzie Street in Wondai will be holding their regular second Saturday of the month GT Open Mic Jam Session between 2:00pm and 6:30pm this afternoon. The event is compered by Gavin and Tony Cisneros and is open to all amateur musicians following any musical style (eg: country, covers, pop, folk etc).
