Art Exhibition Opening - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy will be opening their latest exhibition at 6:30pm this evening. The new exhibition is composed of three complementary shows: works by Melbourne-born artist Deidre Amos in the main gallery; works by Lismore-born artist Donna Smith in the rear gallery; and "Diana And Friends" in the front gallery, which features works by well-known South Burnett artist Diana Bolton along with other members of the Jumping Ants Art Group. This month's exhibition went on display last Friday. After tonight's official opening, it will remain on display at the Gallery until the end of the month. Everyone is welcome and admission is free. Endeavour Foundation Bingo - Kingaroy
The Endeavour Foundation will be holding bingo games at Kingaroy RSL from 10:00am this morning. There'll be four jackpots on offer, as well as a raffle. Everyone is welcome.
Quota International Womens Day Dinner - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy branch of Quota International wil be holding an International Womens Day Dinner in the Tobruk Room of Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 6:00pm onwards this evening (proceedings get underway at 6:30pm sharp). The dinner will feature well-known entertainer and author Sandy Thorne as special guest speaker and there'll also be progressive raffles and an auction to support local girl Chloe Blinco-Kregenbrink, 4, who suffered suffered irreversible nerve damage in her leg after a bout of the flu (you can read more about the fundraising that other groups have also carried out for Chloe on our website). Tickets to tonight's dinner are $45 per person and need to be booked by March 1st to assist with planning the catering. Friday Social Golf - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Golf Club on the Bunya Highway at Kingaroy will holding their regular Friday 9-ers 9 hole social golfing sessions for men and women from 8:00am until dusk today. Everyone is most welcome (including non-members) and green fees are $11 for members or $14 for non-members for the nine holes - but this also includes a card draw for prizes in the clubhouse in the evening (there's also a Jackpot card draw on the last Friday of each month). Adult Learn To Swim Class - Wondai
Are you an adult who doesn't know how to swim and/or feels inseciure in the water? Then get along to the Wondai Swimming Pool at 101 Mackenzie Street. They'll be holding a gold coin donation Adult Learn To Swim Class from 10:00am to 11:00am this morning (and every Friday morning until Easter). The course is conducted by local swimming coach Adam Stephenson and it's open to adults of all ages, levels of fitness and ability. All you need to bring are your swimming togs, a towel, sun protection, a gold coin and (if needed) your medication. Your gold coin donation is paid directly to Adam and all swimming pool fees are waived, since they're paid for by the South Burnett Regional Council's Healthy Communities program. More details? Blue Light Disco - Nanango
The Nanango Blue Light Disco committee will be holding their regular second Friday of the month U18s Blue Light Disco at the Nanango Skating Rink in George Street, Nanango from 6:00pm to 9:00pm tonight. Closing Date For 2013 Kingaroy Eisteddfod Entries
Today is the final day that contestants can submit entries to this year's Kingaroy Eisteddfod. The Eisteddfod will hold its Speech & Drama competitions on April 30; Dance competitions from May 1st to May 6th; and Instrumental, Keyboard & Vocal competitions from May 7th to May 10th. Entry forms can be obtained from the Eisteddfod's website and should be returned to the Kingaroy Community Centre in the Artie Kerr Building at 130 Kingaroy Street no later than 5:00pm today. 13th Annual Maidenwell Folk Gathering
The 13th annual Maidenwell Folk Gathering will get underway around 6:00pm this evening at the Maidenwell Hotel in Maidenwell, starting a weekend-long party that won't conclude until Sunday evening, March 10. The Folk Gathering is a pure folk music event (ie fully acoustic - no electrics are allowed) and because of this has built up a very loyal following over the years. Last year the Gathering attracted in excess of 200 people with virtually zero publicity and organisers are hoping for an even bigger crowd this year. The Festival itself is completely free to attend and there's also free camping available around the hotel if you want to stay overnight. Lots of great food will be available too but no BYO is allowed - you'll need to get your reasonably priced supplies from the Maidenwell Hotel if you want to party hard. More details? Country Music Practice Night - Nanango
The Nanango Country Music Friends will be holding their weekly practice night at the Wesleyan Church in Cairns Street, Nanango at 6:30pm this evening. The group is open to people of all skill levels who enjoy playing country music, and you can find out more details by phoning (07) 4163-2469.
Swimming For Fitness - Kingaroy
A Swimming For Fitness class run by the South Burnett Regional Council's Healthy Communities program will be held at the Kingaroy Swimming Pool at the corner of William and Alford Streets from 9:30am to 10:30am this morning. The class is conducted by swimming coach Donna Dangerfield and is suitable for all fitness and ability levels. If you want to take part - the pool is heated - bring your togs, towel, sun protection and (if applicable) medication, along with a gold coin donation for Donna. Pool entry for this program has been paid by Council, and the class will run every week through Term 1.
International Womens Day At The Libraries
The South Burnett's libraries will all be commemorating International Womens Day with a special morning tea at 10:00am today. Rhonda Hull will be a guest speaker at the Kingaroy Library in Glendon Street; Elvie Templeton-Ditchburn and local historian Daun Clapperton will be gueast speakers at the Nanango Libray in Drayton Street; Louise Cheer will be guest speaker at the Wondai Library in Mackenzie Street; and Proston identity Margaret Westerman and visiting Hervey Bay artist Carol Punch will be guest speakers at the Proston Library in Blake Street. Everyone is welcome along to any of these morning teas, and all of them are free.
South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 11:00am to 1:00pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $35 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items).
