74th Annual Goomeri Show
- The 74th annual Goomeri Show will get underway at the Goomeri Showgrounds at the corner of Laird Street and the Burnett Highway, Goomeri from around 8:00am this morning through until late tonight. Because of recent storms and floods which tore the roof off the main pavilion and hammered the Showgrounds, this year's Show will be slightly reduced from normal: there won't be any horse or cattle events, and the culinary section (except for the famous Dark Rich Fruit Cake Competition) won't be running either. But there'll still be plenty to see and do, including displays of farm produce and flowers; the Fruit Cake judging at 12:00 noon; a special flood photography display; and lots of fun family entertainment including gumboot throwing; tug-o-wars; motorbike barrel racing; a mechanical bull; a jumping castle; miniature horses; and comedy acts by The Rusty Devils. There'll also be a spectacular fireworks display in the evening, including some new fireworks never seen at the Showgrounds before. In addition, entry to this year's Goomeri Show is by gold coin donation (with the proceeds going to help flood victims) so that everyone can come along and have a great day without a big outlay - something that many people in Goomeri and the surrounding districts could do with after the town's damp start to the year. More details? Phone the Show Society on (07) 4168-4177.

There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Gallery's new "Studio" building just a short stroll across the park. The Wondai Kindergarten's BBQs will also be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts to early bargain hunters. The play is based on the four Gospels and depicts Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, his trial, death and resurrection. Come & Try Lawn Bowls - Wondai
- The Wondai Bowls Club on the Bunya Highway at Wondai will be holding a "Come & Try Lawn Bowls" morning from 9:30am to around 12:00 noon today. The morning is open to men, women and children and all you need to bring along is yourself and some flat-soled soft shoes or thongs. If you've ever seen the great Aussie comedy Crackerjack or the British comedy Blackball you'll already know that lawn bowls can be a very engaging sport for all ages. But if you don't and have always been curious about why this sport has been around for 800 years and always attracted such an obsessive following, then today is a great day to find out. Everyone is welcome and you can obtain more details by phoning Allan on (07) 4168-5327 or Hazel on (07) 4168-5420. PS: If you're a really fast learner, this morning's session may be all you'll need to get set for the Wondai Kindy's Night Golf & Barefoot Bowls Fun Day which is being held at the same venue this afternoon (see entry elsewhere on this page for more details).
Wondai Kindy Night Golf & Barefoot Bowls Fun Day

Bowlers can take off their shoes and get stuck into 3-person team bowls competitions from 2:00pm for just $10 per head to compete for the Winner, Run-Up and Wooden Spoon team prizes. But if you think that's not challenging enough - or that too much sport is barely enough - then you're welcome to hit the greens at 7:00pm for Night Golf in a 3person ambrose over 9 holes for $20 per head (which includes a golf ball deposit) to test whether you have the right stuff to win similar great prizes. A tasty BBQ dinner will be available in between the afternoon bowls and the night time golf, as well as a free afternoon tea. You can nominate a team in advance by phoning David on (0409) 187-733 or by emailing him. Otherwise, just turn up on time today - or preferably, a little before time - and nominate on the spot. Everyone's welcome and all proceeds will go to support the Wondai Kindy.
