South Burnett Wine Appreciation Society Meeting - Kingaroy
- The South Burnett Wine Appreciation Society will be holding their monthly meeting at their new meeting address - the 1913 Council Chambers in Edward Street behind the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre - from 6:30pm onwards this evening. Tonight's meeting will focus on a comparative tasting of four different Verdelho's - a white wine variety that the South Burnett produces particularly well, but one that's grown in some other Australian wine regions too. The Wine Appreciation Society is open to anyone who'd like to learn more about wines and the $10 meeting fee covers wine tastings and nibbles. Everyone is welcome! More details? It will return to its normal last Friday of the month slot next month.
Kingaroy Community Garden Meeting
- The Kingaroy Community Garden group will be holding their fourth meeting for 2013 at the Pound Street community garden (just at the rear of the Senior Citizens Park) from 10:00am to 12:00 noon this morning. The community garden is a joint initiative of RHealth, BIEDO and the South Burnett Regional Council's Healthy Communities initiative, and it allows people interested in learning more about permaculture, soils, composting, worms, seed saving, insects and trees to jointly cultivate the community garden and share in the fresh produce that it produces. Anyone who'd like to get involved in this project is very welcome to come along (BYO chair, sun protection, water bottle, gardening gloves and closed-toe shoes) and the group meets roughly once a fortnight. Endeavour Foundation Bingo - Kingaroy
- The Endeavour Foundation will be holding bingo games at Kingaroy RSL from 10:00am this morning. There'll be four jackpots on offer, as well as a raffle. Everyone is welcome.
Adult Learn To Swim Class - Wondai
- Are you an adult who doesn't know how to swim and/or feels inseciure in the water? Then get along to the Wondai Swimming Pool at 101 Mackenzie Street. They'll be holding a gold coin donation Adult Learn To Swim Class from 10:00am to 11:00am this morning (and every Friday morning until Easter). The course is conducted by local swimming coach Adam Stephenson and it's open to adults of all ages, levels of fitness and ability. All you need to bring are your swimming togs, a towel, sun protection, a gold coin and (if needed) your medication. Your gold coin donation is paid directly to Adam and all swimming pool fees are waived, since they're paid for by the South Burnett Regional Council's Healthy Communities program. More details? Swimming For Fitness - Kingaroy
- A Swimming For Fitness class run by the South Burnett Regional Council's Healthy Communities program will be held at the Kingaroy Swimming Pool at the corner of William and Alford Streets from 9:30am to 10:30am this morning. The class is conducted by swimming coach Donna Dangerfield and is suitable for all fitness and ability levels. If you want to take part - the pool is heated - bring your togs, towel, sun protection and (if applicable) medication, along with a gold coin donation for Donna. Pool entry for this program has been paid by Council, and the class will run every week through Term 1.
Official Opening Of New Nanango Netball Courts
- The Nanango & District Netball Association will be officially opening their new netball courts at the club's sports complex in Brooklands Road, Nanango (just down from the cemetery) at 5:30pm this evening. The new courts were made possible by a $50,000 grant from the Nanango Heritage Bank's Community Grants Fund, and tonight's ceremony will formally acknowledge the Bank's assistance with the project. Everyone is welcome but for catering purposes, you'll need to RSVP by March 10th - either to President Moira Early on (07) 4163-7281 or Secretary Sheryl Wolski on (07) 4163-9136 (or email her).
Country Music Practice Night - Nanango
- The Nanango Country Music Friends will be holding their weekly practice night at the Wesleyan Church in Cairns Street, Nanango at 6:30pm this evening. The group is open to people of all skill levels who enjoy playing country music, and you can find out more details by phoning (07) 4163-2469.
South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy
- The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 11:00am to 1:00pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $35 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). Friday Social Golf - Kingaroy
- The Kingaroy Golf Club on the Bunya Highway at Kingaroy will holding their regular Friday 9-ers 9 hole social golfing sessions for men and women from 8:00am until dusk today. Everyone is most welcome (including non-members) and green fees are $11 for members or $14 for non-members for the nine holes - but this also includes a card draw for prizes in the clubhouse in the evening (there's also a Jackpot card draw on the last Friday of each month). Blue Light Superhero Night - Nanango
- The Nanango Blue Light Disco committee will be holding their regular fourth Friday of the month Blue Light Disco at the Nanango Skating Rink in George Street from 6:00pm to 9:00pm tonight. Tonight's disco will have a superhero theme, so everyone is encouraged to dress up like a superhero. Half the floor will be given over to the disco and the other half will be full of game stalls for minute to win it games. A $2 sausage sizzle will operating and admission is $5. More details?
