Mayor's 2013 Flood Appeal Breakfast - Kingaroy
The Mayor's 2013 Flood Appeal Breakfast will be held at the Kingarpoy Town Common Hall in Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy from 6:00am to 9:00am this morning, with Australian cricketing legend Darren Lehmann as special guest. The breakfast is a fundraiser for South Burnett flood victims and is being run in conjunction with the Red Earth Community Foundation, a South Burnett charitable foundation. Tickets to the breakfast are $30 per head and all proceeds will go to the Flood Appeal. They can be booked by phoning (07) 4189-9155. Alternately - if you'd like to contribute but can't make it to this moning's brekkie - you can donate to the Flood Appeal by phoning (07) 4189-9100; over the counter at any SBRC customer service centre; by downloading and returning this donation form; or online through the FRRR's website (make sure you select "South Burnett Red Earth Assistance Fund" from the "FRRR hosted donation accounts" drop-down). All donations are tax-deductible.
Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai will be opening their latest monthly exhibition for 2013 with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm this evening. Tonight's exhibition will feature the works leather artisans Sandy Hoffman and Lorraine Tinniswood in the front gallery; Tingoora artist Daphne Browne and her friends Jan Sody, Gwen Olm, Jeanette Winton, Robyn Parker and Ethne Kinsella in the Alison Iszlaub Gallery; Julia Shaw in the third gallery; and works by students from Kingaroy State School in Kidz Korner. As usual, the opening will also feature great finger foods and punch, along with wine tastings from Bellbird Vineyards. Admission is $5 and everyone is very welcome to attend! More details? Flood Recovery BBQ - Booubyjan
POSTPONED: A Flood Recovery BBQ will be held at Booubyjan Hall today to provide information about flood recovery assistance packages. Representatives from the Queensland Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), the QRAA, farm financial counsellors, Centrelink, BlazeAid, Gympie Regional Council, the South Burnett Regional Council, Centacare South Burnett, BIEDO, the Burnett Mary Regional Group, Counselling and Pastoral Care and Livestock Disease Advice will bed at the hall to provide advice about what they can each do to assist, and guests will be able to book one-on-one appoointments from 10:00am. The main information session will start at 12:00 noon, and it will be followed by a free BBQ at 3:00pm courtesy of Landcare South Burnett, HelpQldFarmers.com.au and BGA Agriservices. Proston Show Ball - Proston
CANCELLED The Proston Show Society's annual Proston Show Ball - the traditional curtain-raiser for the Proston Show which is running next Saturday, March 9th - will be held at Proston Town Hall in Proston from 8:00pm until around 1:00am tonight. A feature of this fully licensed event will be the judging of the Belle of the Ball, as well as the announcement of 2013's Miss Show Girl, Rural Ambassador, Junior Miss Show Girl and Junior Rural Ambassador. Music will be supplied by David C. and there'll be Old Time and New Vogue numbers, as well as a great supper and lucky door prizes. Admission is still just $10 for adults and $5 for high school students (primary school and younger are free) and they'll be available at the door. More details? Adult Learn To Swim Class - Wondai
Are you an adult who doesn't know how to swim and/or feels inseciure in the water? Then get along to the Wondai Swimming Pool at 101 Mackenzie Street. They'll be holding a gold coin donation Adult Learn To Swim Class from 10:00am to 11:00am this morning (and every Friday morning until Easter). The course is conducted by local swimming coach Adam Stephenson and it's open to adults of all ages, levels of fitness and ability. All you need to bring are your swimming togs, a towel, sun protection, a gold coin and (if needed) your medication. Your gold coin donation is paid directly to Adam and all swimming pool fees are waived, since they're paid for by the South Burnett Regional Council's Healthy Communities program. More details? Blue Light Skating - Nanango
CANCELLED: The Nanango Blue Light Disco committee will be holding their regular first Friday of the month U13s Skating Night at the Nanango Skating Rink in George Street, Nanango from 6:00pm to 9:00pm tonight. South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 11:00am to 1:00pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $35 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). Swimming For Fitness - Kingaroy
A Swimming For Fitness class run by the South Burnett Regional Council's Healthy Communities program will be held at the Kingaroy Swimming Pool at the corner of William and Alford Streets from 9:30am to 10:30am this morning. The class is conducted by swimming coach Donna Dangerfield and is suitable for all fitness and ability levels. If you want to take part - the pool is heated - bring your togs, towel, sun protection and (if applicable) medication, along with a gold coin donation for Donna. Pool entry for this program has been paid by Council, and the class will run every week through Term 1.
Nanango Computer Club Meeting
The Nanango Computer Club will be holding its regular fortnightly meeting at the Nanango Cultural Centre in George Street, Nanango between 1:30pm and 4:00pm this afternoon. The club caters for computer enthusiasts at all skill levels and welcomes anyone interested in learning more about computers in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. You can attend the first two meetings for free - after that, annual membership is $10 - and there's a $2 fee per meeting to cover coffee and cake.
