Wondai Country Markets
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular, getting-bigger-every-month Wondai Country Markets will be operating in Coronation Park in the Wondai CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. Today's markets will feature (amongst any other things) stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and the Wondai Kindergarten's BBQs firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts to early bargain hunters. Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowling Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Pig On A Spit Night - Maidenwell
Maidenwell's historic Maidenwell Hotel will be holding another of their popular monthly Pig On A Spit evenings from 6:00pm until late tonight tonight (dinner is served from 6:00pm to 8:00pm). There'll be live entertainment and lots of cold beer, as well as more pork than you can possibly poke a stick at! The hotel's Pig On A Spit nights are held on the last Saturday of every month and they're always a lot of fun! The cost is only $12.50 for adults and $6.50 for children. More information? Saturday Cricket
South Burnett cricketers will be playing the fifth round of this year's 2012-13 cricket season at a variety of locations around the region today. In A-grade, the Murgon Crusaders will play the second (and deciding) round of their two-day match against the Nanango Scorpions at the Murgon Sportsgrounds; while Kingaroy RSL will play a similar decider against the Wooroolin Warriors at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy. And in B-grade, the Kumbia Rattlers will play the Wooroolin Warriors at the Kumbia Sportsgrounds; Kingaroy RSL will play the Wondai Wolves at Taabinga State School; Barambah will play Murgon Magic at Murgon State High School; and the Murgon Diggers will play the Murgon Colts at the Murgon Sportsgrounds. All matches get underway at 1:00pm, and spectators and supporters are very welcome!
South Burnett Home Based Business Expo - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Home Based Business Group will be holding their final Expo for 2012 in the Kingaroy RSL's Tobruk Room off Short Street, Kingaroy from 10:00am to around 4:00pm today. The Expo will showcase a wide variety of South Burnett home-based businesses and there'll also be demonstrations, a major lucky door prize and a cent auction. Admission is free. More details? Hand Made Expo - Nanango
The Nanango Art Society will be holding their annual Hand Made Expo at the Nanango State High School community hall at the end of Cairns Street, Nanango from 9:00am to 3:00pm today. The Expo is one of the group's major annual fundraisers and will feature a wide range of local hand-made arts and crafts. There'll also be lots of prizes and give-aways throughout the day, along with raffles and lucky door prizes. Food and drink stands will be in operation too, and Santa Claus will also be paying a visit for family photo shoots. Everyone is welcome! More details? Bare Foot Bowls - Nanango
Here's something different! The Nanango Kindy will be holding a Bare Foot Bowls afternoon at the Nanango Bowls Club in Henry Street from 2:30pm onwards today as a fund-raiser. If you ever saw the Aussie film "Cracker" you'll know what an involving and fun game lawn bowls is - but if you didn't, then today is a really great way to learn, have fun and help a good cause at the same time. Green fees are just $8 per person and all you need to bring is yourself and bare feet - no previous experience is required. Cent Auction - Kingaroy
A Cent Auction will be held at Taabinga State School's hall in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy at 1:00pm this afternoon as a fund-raiser for the P&C. What's On At The Wineries This Weekend
The South Burnett's wineries and cellar doors will all be open this weekend if you want to relax in their cafes and/or taste their wines. The South Burnett is now the largest wine region in Queensland and (excluding the Granite Belt) larger than all the State's other wine regions put together. Men's Breakfast - Murgon
The Murgon Baptist Church will be running a Men's Breakfast at Murgon Town Hall off Lamb Street, Murgon from 7:30am to 9:30am this morning. The breakfast is open to all men aged 16 and upwards (under-16s can attend if accompanied by a male parent or guardian) and will be addressed by guest speaker John Teunis, a pastoral carer and maintenance officer from St George. Admission is $10 per head, or $8 for students and pensioners, but for catering purposes you'll need to RSVP by November 19 to (0419) 664-256.
Yarraman Campdraft
The Yarraman Agricultural Society will be staging their annual Yarraman Campdraft at the Yarraman Campdraft grounds (part of the Yarraman Showgrounds) on the New England Highway at Yarraman from 7:00am this morning until around 4:30pm this afternoon. The Campdraft will feature maiden and novice events and more than 130 keen competitors are expected to take part. A bar and BBQ will be operating throughout the day and admission is 100% free for spectators. Note: This campdraft had originally been scheduled for November 10th but had to be cancelled at the last minute due to bad weather.
Spirit Of The South Burnett Community Round Table - Murgon
A Community Round Table will be held at the Graham House Community Centre at 21 Taylor Street in Murgon from 2:00pm to 5:00pm this afternoon as part of preparations for the "Spirit of the South Burnett Festival" being held in Nanango in February 2013. The Round Table will provide an opportunity for Murgon area residents to talk about their journey from the 2011 floods and discuss how it has influenced their lives today. These stories will be used in a number of ways to build strategies that will ensure any future local disasters are survivable and recovery is made as easy as possible. Note: Similar sessions will be held in Kingaroy (27th) and Wondai (28th) to gather the views of residents in those towns too.
Santa Paws - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy RSPCA will be running their 2nd annual "Santa Paws" at Kingaroy Shoppingworld from 9:00am until 2:00pm today. Pet owners can bring along their pets and have them professionally photographed with Santa. A 6 X 4 glossy is only $5 and there are additional photo packages available - just ask! All proceeds will go to help the Shelter and its good work. Last year 30 keen pet owners got their pets photographed with Santa, and this year the RSPCA are hoping to break that record. Pilots Of The Purple Twilight - Nanango
The Nanango Theatre Company will be re-running the final performance of their latest production "Pilots Of The Purple Twilight" at the Nanango Theatre Company Playhouse at the corner of Elk and George Streets in Nanango at 7:30pm this evening (doors open at 7:00pm). Tonight's show is a "make good" re-run after last Saturday's planned final show was interrupted by the super storm cell that hit south-east Queensland. Tonight's performance is also a Wine & Cheese Night and tickets are $25 per head. You can buy them in advance from the South Burnett Energy and Tourist Information Centre in Henry Street, Nanango or by phoning (07) 4171-0100 or (07) 4189-9446, but some may also be available at the door tonight. Dance - Booie Hall
A dance will be held at Booie Hall from 8:00pm until around 12:00am this evening. Music will be supplied by The Commodores and there'll be the usual great supper, novelties and lucky door prize. Clay Modelling Workshop - Kingaroy
The Nimue Art Gallery in King Street, Kingaroy (immediately next to the Carrollee Hotel) will be running a clay modelling workshop with well-known South Burnett potter Fay Stumm from 10:00am to 4:00pm today. Some materials will be provided and the cost of the workshop plus materials will be available at a later date. South Burnett Thrashers Clay Target Shooting Day - Kingaroy
If you feel like having a bit of blammo with some ammo, the South Burnett Thrashers will be holding a Clay Target Shooting Day at the Kingaroy Clay Target Club at the corner of the Kingaroy-Cooyar Road and Aerodrome Road, Kingaroy from 9:30am this morning as a fundraiser. For $50 you can get 20 practice rounds; take part in a 25 round competition; and get a safety introduction and some coaching thrown in. There'll also be lucky door prizes and a BBQ lunch, and everyone is welcome!
Saturday Softball - Nanango
The South Burnett Softball Association will be holding the 5th round of their 2012-13 competition at the Nanango Sportsgrounds in Burnett Street, Nanango this morning. In the juniors, Dodgers will play Raiders, Astros will play Allstars and Comets will play Furies on three different pitches at 8:30am. And this will be followed by the seniors clash between Misfits and Rebels at 10:30am. Spectators and supporters are very welcome.
