Remembrance Day 2012

Today is Remembrance Day and a number of public services will be held throughout the South Burnett at 11:00am this morning to mark it. Everyone is welcome to attend these services which acknowledge the sacrifices made by our natin's soldiers - not only in that conflict, but in all the other conflicts Australia has participated in. Today's Remembrance Day services will also mark the 50th anniversary of the start of Australia's thirteen year involvement in the Vietnam War (1962-1975):
Blackbutt:
A service will be held at the Blackbutt Cenotaph on the D'Aguilar Highway at 11:00am
Yarraman:
A service will be held at the Yarraman Cenotaph on the D'Aguilar Highway at 11:00am (wreath-layers should arrive prior to 10:45am)
Nanango:
A service will be held at the Nanango War Memorial from 11:00am this morning (assembly is at 10:45am). The catafalque sevice will be performed by members of the Nanango Army Cadets Unit, who'll have a training day at Nanango State High School after the commemoration service concludes.
Kingaroy:
A special Remembrance Day Combined Church Service will be held at the Kingaroy Town Hall forecourt in Glendon Street, Kingaroy this morning, beginning at 9:30am. The church service has been jointly organised by the Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL, the Kingaroy Ministers Fraternal and the South Burnett Regional Council, and it will be followed by a commemoration service at 11:00am.
Wondai:
A service will be held outside the Wondai Town Hall at 11:00am this morning
Proston:
A service will be held at the Proston State School, beginning at 10:30am
Murgon:
A service will be held at the Murgon War Memorial on the corner of Lamb and Gore Streets between 10:45am and 11:05am
Goomeri:
A service will be held at the Goomeri Memorial Clock in the heart of town at 11:00am (attendees should arrive no later than 10:45am)
Kilkivan:
A flag-raising ceremony will be held at the RSL Memorial Park at 11:00am
2012 Diggers Day 18-Hole Stableford - Kingaroy
A Remembrance Day 18-Hole Stableford will be held at the Kingaroy Golf Club on the Bunya Highway south-west of town at 12:00 noon today (names in by 11:30am). There'll be great prizes on offer for winners, runners-up, run downs, nearest to pin, closest approach and long drive, as well as raffles to raise funds for Legacy. Murgon CBD Markets
The monthly Murgon Markets will be held in Lamb Street, Murgon from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets offer locally-made crafts, foods and produce and are always an interesting Sunday morning out. New stall-holders are always welcome too! More details? Phone Richie on (07) 4168-1915
Susan Dowdle School Of Dance Annual Matinee Concert - Murgon
The Susan Dowdle School of Dance will be holding a special matinee performance of their 12th annual Dance Concert at Murgon Town Hall off Lamb Street, Murgon at 3:00pm this afternoon for the benefit of people who can't make it to the school's evening concert (which will be held at the same venue next Saturday night, November 17th). The concert will feature enthusiastic performances of classical, jazz and tap dancing by the School's students, along with a wide range of brilliantly colourful costumes. Admission is $12 for adults and secondary students and $7 for primary school students (pre-schoolers are free), Many tickets to today's concert are already sold, but others will be available at the door this afternoon. Timbertown Woodworkers Group Meeting - Blackbutt
The Timbertown Woodworkers Group will be holding their regular Sunday morning meeting at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 8:00am until around 12:00pm today. New Residents Meet & Greet - Wondai
The Wondai Chamber Of Commerce will be holding a Meet & Greet for new residents who've moved into Wondai and surrounding areas over the last 12 months at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD at 12:00 noon today. There'll be a fee sausage sizzle (courtesy of Ryan's Butchery) and all new residents are very welcome to come along and meet the locals.
Lunch In The Country Smorgasbord - Wondai
Dimities Cottage at 49 Haly Street in Wondai will be holding another of their regular Lunch In The Country Smorgasbords from 12:00pm to 2:00pm this afternoon. Sunday Markets - Kilkivan
