Mother's Day Classic - Kingaroy
The not-for-profit Kingaroy running club Go Getta Girls is organising a special community Fun Run / Walk today to help raise funds for breast cancer research. The Mother's Day Classic walk or run was established in 1998. Its purpose is to raise money for breast cancer research, to increase awareness of breast cancer within the community and to support and remember those affected by breast cancer. The Classic is a national event and last year the Go Getta Girls introduced it in the South Burnett, helping to raise $5000 for the Breast Cancer Foundation in the process. They now want to host it annually and - with increased awareness, support and participation by our community - be able to grow our region's contribution to this worthy cause. This is a fun morning with either a 4k walk/run or a 8k run on offer. Participants will follow a course along Haly Street and West Street with temporary road closures, supervised by SES and Police - a completely safe event. The emphasis is on fun, community spirit and participation. The fun run will begin at the Go Getta Girls’ shed in Memorial Park, Kingaroy, at 7:00am and continue to around 11:00am. To register, visit the Mother’s Day Classic website. You can get more details by phoning Colleen on (07) 4162-5146 or by emailing her. You can also read about how last year's inaugural Classic went (and see photos) on our website.

Today is International Fibromyalgia Awareness Day (FMS). FMS has been estimated to affect approximately 2 to 4 per cent of the population. Symptoms can include chronic and widespread pain and a painful response to touch or pressure. Other symptoms also include fatigue, broken or poor sleep, numbness, irritable bowel syndrome, restless legs, sensitivity to light, noise and temperature, and memory and concentration problems. It can also be related to depression, stress and anxiety. There is no single test that can diagnose the condition; its cause is unknown; and while there is no cure for FMS, treatment is usually directed towards managing the symptoms of the disorder. An FMS Facebook group for Queensand has been set up at www.facebook.com/FMSupportQld.
