Wondai Country Markets
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. Today's markets will feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Gallery's new "Studio" building just a short stroll across the park. The Wondai Kindergarten's BBQs will also be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts to early bargain hunters. Goomeri Pumpkin Festival Dinner Dance
The Goomeri Pumpkin Festival Committee will be holding their fully licensed annual Goomeri Pumpkin Festival Dinner Dance at the Hall of Memory in Goomeri's CBD this evening as the traditional curtain-raiser to tomorrow's 17th annual Goomeri Pumpkin Festival. Music will be supplied by Ricochet and prepaid bookings are absolutely essential for this three course dinner (5:30pm for 6:00pm) and the pumpkin-inspired dancing that follows it. During the evening attendees will have the opportunity to bid for a ride on a camel in tomorrow's Pumpkin Festival street parade while thousands of visitors line the streets to cheer you on, and all proceeds from the auction will go to a selected charity. “Gangsters & Gals” Charity Dinner - Kingaroy
A Gangsters & Gals Charity Dinner in aid of the RACQ Careflight helicopter service will be held at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 6:30pm this evening. RACQ Careflight regularly transports critically ill patients from hospitals in the South Burnett to Brisbane or elsewhere, and provides a vital service to our region. Tickets are $60 per head which includes a three-course meal, and a licensed bar will be operating as well. Garden Day - Proston
The Proston QCWA will be holding a Garden Day at the Proston Community Hall in Rodney Street from 9:00am to 3:30pm today. Popular gardening expert and ABC Garden Talkback host Rod Hultgren will be a special guest speaker, and there'll also be a multi-draw raffle; a lucky door prize; the drawing of the major raffle; a CWA craft stall; a Paradise Nutrients stall; a Teapot and Tea Cosy competition; and more! Saturday Afternoon Rugby Union - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Thrashers rugby union team will be playing their third home game of the season at St Mary's Oval in John Street, Kingaroy (behind Kingaroy Hospital) at 1:30pm this afternoon. The Thrashers will be playing Roma in Round 8 of the 2013 Downs Rugby competition - and after two succesive away wins against the Dalby Wheatmen and the USQ Saints in the last fortnight, they'll be keen to make it three in a row. Dance - Booie Hall
A dance will be held at Booie Hall from 8:00pm until around 12:00am this evening. Music will be supplied by Jus Dancin and there'll be the usual great supper, novelties and lucky door prize. Mayor's Flood Appeal Charity Golf Day - Murgon
The Murgon Golf Club will be holding a Nine Hole Family Fun Golf Day on their course at the southern end of Murgon today as a fundraiser for the Mayor's Red Earth Flood Appeal, which will wind up on June 1st. Today's event will be a three person ambrose with a shotgun start at 1:30pm, and the $15 per person entry fee includes a great BBQ and prizes afterwards. Army Cadet Expo - Nanango
An Army Cadet Expo arranged by the 123 Australian Cadet Unit will be held at Nanango Showgrounds from 11:00am until late today. The event will kick off with a march by 70 cadets from all over South-East Queensland from the Cairns Street Showgrounds down Drayton Street to the War Memorial at 11:00am. At the War Memorial, selected cadets will practice the drill for a Catafalque Party, after which they'll all march back to the Showgrounds for an afternoon of fun activities that the public are very welcome to come along and view. These will inlude displays of archery; first aid scenarios; drill; drums; fieldcraft; practice runs through confidence courses (formerly known as "obstacle courses"); a display by the Light Horse Regiment; and another by the fire brigade. There'll also be free information availble for any young people aged between 12.5 years and 18 years who are interested in joining the Army cadets. Everyone is welcome! The day will be capped off by a dinner at the Showgrounds for relatives, friends and invited guests of the cadets. More details? Kingaroy Lions Trail Ride - Minmore
The first day of the weekend-long Kingaroy Trail Ride will be held at Minmore 36km west of Kingaroy from 8:00am this morning through until late this afternoon (look for the signs off the Bunya Highway past the Kingaroy Golf Club). This annual 2-day event is a fundraiser for the Kingaroy Lions and Careflight and last year attracted more than 450 riders. It's a non-competitive trail ride open to all classes of dirt bikes (no quads) featuring a brand new 50Km fast open trail with a few challenges to keep it interesting on Saturday, and tomorrow the famous 55Km Sandy Creek loop. A novice and Pee Wee circuits will also be in operation. Free camping is available with hot showers and toilets, as well as on-site food catering from Saturday through to Sunday lunch. Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy
After a one-week break for the annual Presidents Cup contests last week, the seventh round of the 2013 Evolution Solar South Burnett Football League will be kicking off again in Kingaroy today, with Gunners playing Wests at Tom Alford Oval in Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy. The 2nd Division match will hit the field at 1:30pm; the Women's Division match at 3:15pm; and the 1st Division match kicking off at 5:00pm. Junior soccer matches, meanwhile, will be played at the Wondai Sportsgrounds. And tomorrow - at Murgon - Barambah United will play the Nanango Panthers at the Murgon Showgrounds, with 2nd Division taking to the park at 11:00am; Womens Division at 1:00pm; and 1st Division at 3:00pm. Spectators and supporters are very welcome to all matches, and canteens will be operating at both venues too.

Saturday Rugby League - Blackbutt
After a break last week for the President's Cup, the sixth round of the 2013 South Burnett Premier League competition will be held at the Blackbutt football grounds at the corner of Railway and Charles Streets today - and it'll be an A-Grade Double Header. In the first match of the day at 1:00pm, the Nanango Stags will take on the formidable Wondai Wolves (currently at number 2 on the ladder); and in the second match at 2:45pm, 2012 Premiers and current leaders Cherbourg Hornets will be playing the Blackbutt Timbertowners on their home turf, with the local boys understandably keen to turn in a top performance. Meanwhile, the Queensland School Sports 18 Years Rugby League State Championships will be playing six matches from 9:00am onwards today at Kingaroy's T.J. O'Neill Oval in the third straight day of the four-day competition. And junior rugby league games will be held at the Blackbutt and Wondai Sportsgrounds, and at the Murgon Showgrounds and Jack O'Chin Oval at Cherbourg. Spectators and supporters are very welcome at all matches!
Kids Club - Nanango
The Winds Of Change Gallery in George Street, Nanango (just across the road from the Cultural Centre) will be running its Saturday morning Kids Club from 10:00am to 1:00pm this morning. Pig On A Spit Night - Maidenwell
Maidenwell's historic Maidenwell Hotel will be holding another of their popular monthly Pig On A Spit evenings from 6:00pm until late tonight tonight (dinner is served from 6:00pm to 8:00pm). There'll be live entertainment and lots of cold beer, as well as more pork than you can poke a stick at!
