2013 Kingaroy Show
The second (and final) day of the weekend-long 2013 Kingaroy Show will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds from 8:00am this morning through until late tonight. The Kingaroy Show is the biggest agricultural show in the South Burnett and this year's 106th Show could be the biggest ever. Most of today's major events will be held in the main Show Ring but there'll also be a wide range of pavilion exhibits on display too and (as always!) a very big Sideshow Alley. Special things to look out for at this year's Show include a Ute Show (today only); the ever-popular Woodchops; wagon rides; vintage car and tractor displays; and much, much more. As usual, there'll also be hotly contested fields in cattle judging; a big range of equestrian events; and many other things. Tickets to today's show are $30 per family (2 adults and 2 children), $10 for adults or $8 for pensioners and high school students (primary school age children can get in for free). There's also free parking available in the grounds too. More info? Phone the Kingaroy Show Society on (07) 4162-5800 or email them.
Sunday Markets - Kilkivan
The weekly Kilkivan Markets will be held in Lester Millar Park in Kilkivan from 7:00am until around 11:00am this morning. The markets feature an array of locally produced fruit, vegetables and merchandise and new stallholders are always welcome! More details? Phone Dulcie on (07) 5484-1032
2013 Boondooma Dam Yellowbelly Fishing Competition
The second (and final) day of the weekend-long 25th annual Boondooma Dam Yellowbelly Fishing Competition will be held at Boondooma Dam today, starting at around 5:00am this morning and concluding with final weigh-ins around lunchtime. The event - organised by the Boondooma Dam Fish Stocking Association in conjunction with a bevy of sponsors - will have adult and junior sections and numerous cash prizes for each weigh-in period. A licensed bar, BBQ and food and drink stalls will be operating for the duration and accommodation for competitors is available at the adjoining Lake Boondooma Tourist Park. Competition entry fees are $20 for adults and $5 for children aged 16 and under, and all competitors will need to have a Stocked Impoundment Permit to take part. Last year more than 500 keen anglers wet their lines for a share of the $4,500 prize-monies and an incredible 1,300 campers packed the dam's camping grounds. This year organisers expect similar numbers or higher. More details and/or nominations? Phone John on (0427) 112-477 or send him an email. Want on-site accommodation? Then phone the Lake Boondooma Tourist Park on (07) 4168-9694 or email them. Note: This year's Yellowbelly has been rescheduled from February to May because of the Australia Day floods.
