South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Jeff Hancox And Natalie Fenton In Concert - Nanango
Two of the South Burnett's favourite performers - Jeff Hancox and Natalie Fenton - will be singing the legends of country and rock at Taras Hall next to the Nanango RSL in Henry Street, Nanango from 7:30pm to 11:30pm tonight. Tickets to the show are $15, and meals and drinks can be ordered from the RSL and served to you in the hall. Seating is limited, though, so bookings are advisable. St John's Car Boot Sale - Kingaroy
St John's Lutheran School at 84-94 Ivy Street, Kingaroy will be holding a big Car Boot Sale from 6:00am to around 11:00am this morning in the school grounds as a fundraiser for their Kindy. This is a great chance to turn your trash and treasure into cash, or to come along and discover a bargain. Stallholder fees are just $10 and table sites are also available, with set-up from 5:00am. Family Open Darts Day & Sausage Sizzle - Nanango
The Nanango Darts Club at 12 George Street, Nanango will be holding a free Family Open Darts Day & Sausage Sizzle from 10:00am to 3:00pm today, thanks to sponsorship from Chill Zone Internet Cafe and Heritage Bank Nanango. Providing you wear closed shoes you can enjoy free games of darts, learn to play darts and/or have all your darts questions expertly answered - or just enjoy a sausage sizzle with Nanango's darts fraternity, who are a very upbeat group of people. Wooroolin Community Markets
The Wooroolin Community Markets will be held inside the Wooroolin QCWA Rooms on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 6:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets run on the 2nd Saturday of each month and stall fees are just $5. More details? Phone Mellissa on (07) 4164-1249.
Barambah Shed Men Meeting - Boondooma
The Barambah Shed Men will be holding their 30th meeting at historic Boondooma Homestead at 8262 Durong-Mundubbera Road, Boondooma from 10:30pm to around 2:30pm today. There'll be two guest speakers at today's meeting: Buddy Thomson, who'll talk about the history of Boondooma Homestead and the area's early settlers; and Sergeant Brad Cowell, who's currently officer in charge of the Anakie Police Station and has had a 27-year career in the force with postings all over the State. A bus will leave Purser's depot at 40 Gore Street, Murgon at 9:00am sharp, and will pick up at the Wondai Cemetery at 9:10am and Proston Ambulance Centre at 9:45am (cost is $10 per person) and the day will kick off with a morning tea on arrival at the Homestead. This will be followed by Homestead tours between 11:00am and 12:30pm, then a BBQ lunch before the program starts at 1:00pm, and then afternoon tea around 2:30pm. The bus will then leave at 3:00pm and arrive back in Murgon around 4:30pm. The meeting cost - including morning and afternoon teas, lunch, nibbles and Homestead tours is $22 per person or $8 for young blokes 15 and under (or $32/$18 if you're taking the bus). Yarraman To Linville Summertime Run
A Yarraman To Linville Summertime Run - a cycling event - will be held along the Yarraman-Linville Rail Trail this morning. Participants should meet at the former Linville Railway Station in Linville at 7:30am for transfer by coach to Yarraman for the 42km ride back down the range, where the event will be followed by a $22 per head lunch and dessert at the Linville Hotel. Cost to take part in the Summertime Run itself is $15, and all cyclists are welcome.
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today (ie opposite Bendigo Bank). The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held on the second Saturday of every month. Kingaroy Men's Bowls Carnival
The second day of the three-day Kingaroy Men's Bowls Carnival will be held at the Kingaroy Bowls Club in Youngman Street from 9:00am to 5:00pm today. Today's competition will be the first rounds of the Men's Fours, with $160 per team nomination fees and $4500 in prize money up for grabs. Murgon Swim Meet
The Murgon Amateur Swimming Club (the Orcas) will be holding a Murgon Swim Meet at the new Murgon Aquatic Centre in Gore Street, Murgon today. Gates will open at 7:00am and the first competition events will begin at 8:00am. Nomination fees are $5 per event (or $2 for U7s) and pool entry is $3 for spectators or swimmers (but free for U7s). Everyone is welcome.
Barambah Beekeepers Meeting - Kingaroy
The newly-formed Barambah Beekeepers group will be meeting at Burnett Beekeeping Supplies' premises at 806 River Road in Kingaroy from 9:00am to around 12:30pm this morning. Athol Craig from Valley Bees will be a special gust speaker at today's meeting, and he'll be talking about bee biology. The group is for people interested in bee-keeping - either as a hobby or commercially - and new members are always welcome. Nanango Stamp Club Meeting
The Nanango Stamp Club will be holding its monthly meeting at 94 Burnett Street, Nanango from 10:00am onwards this morning, followed by a social lunch. The club is the South Burnett's sole affiliated member of the Queensland Philatelic Council, and promotes the hobby of stamp collecting in our region. It meets on the second Saturday morning of each month, and anyone interested in stamp collecting is very welcome to come along for a fun morning out with fellow collectors. More details? Seafood Buffet - Murgon
Sakina's Seafood Buffet - which is held on the 2nd Saturday of each month - will be running at the Saleyard Cafe on Gayndah Road at Murgon at 6:30pm this evening. Blackbutt RSL & CMC Closing Down Sale
The Blackbutt RSL & Citizens Memorial Club, which has been operating from the Blackbutt RSL Sub-branch premises at the corner of Douglas and Muir Streets in Blackbutt, will be holding a Closing Down Sale today. The RSL's doors will open at 7:00am and all CMC materials must go. Note: Only the Citizen's Memorial Club is closing down - the RSL Sub-branch will be reopening next year
Saturday Afternoon Judo - Murgon
The Murgon Judo Club will be holding its regular Saturday afternoon training session at the Salvation Army Hall in Macalister Street, Murgon today. Anglican Church Deconsecration - Proston
St Peters Anglican Church in Proston will be deconsecrated and closed today. The final service will take place at 2:00pm and all past and present members of the congregation - as well as anybody else who's had a connection to the church - is very welcome to attend.
Dance - Booie Hall
A dance will be held at Booie Hall at 1867 Booie Road from 8:00pm until around midnight tonight. Queensland Rally Championship - Benarkin
The final round of the 2015 Queensland Rally Championship will be run on forestry roads between Benarkin and Yarraman today, with 28 drivers competing for line honours over a 290km course. Spectators are welcome to witness the race's start at the Benarkin State School at 12:00 noon - the school's P&C will be supplying food and drinks. There are also three spectator points along the rally route. Two are within a 10-minute drive of the main service park at Benarkin State School, and the final one is at Yarraman (information about these will be provided to people who watch the race start).
