Seafood Sunday - Bunya Mountains
If you're looking for something great to do this weekend, Lyrics Restaurant at Dandabah in the Bunya Mountains - just behind the Bunya Mountains General Store - will be holding their monthly "Seafood Sunday" from 11:00am onwards today (lunch will be served from around noon). The fully-licensed restaurant will be offering a 100% fresh seafood a-la-carte menu, serving seafoods obtained from the coast yesterday - and be warned! The serving sizes are h-u-g-e. Bunya Mountains Markets
The monthly Bunya Mountains Markets will also be running at Dandabah in the Bunya Mountains today. The markets feature up to 30 stands selling quality, locally-produced fresh produce, arts and crafts and they'll be operating from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Local cafes like Poppies On The Hill and The Bunya Mountains Cafe will be offering special Market Day menus and morning teas, lunches and afternoon teas (as well as Seafood Sunday at Lyrics licensed restaurant - see entry above), and walking trail maps will be available from both cafes, the Bunya Mountains General Store and market stalls if you'd like to take a walk through the adjoining National Park.
Maidenwell Markets
If you're heading up to the Bunya Mountains today, go via Maidenwell and you can browse the new Maidenwell Car Boot Sales And Market Stalls at the Maidenwell Sportsgrounds (just next to the Rural Fire Brigade HQ in the heart of town) between 8:00am and 12:00 noon. These markets offer car boot sales plus a variety of market stalls selling various goods and wares including wood fired pizza, fruit and veg, plants, jams and pickles, cakes, bric-a-brac, books and second hand goodies, crafts and lots more (even face painting for children). Stallholder/Car boot fees are just $10 each, payable on day, and all proceeds go to the Maidenwell Community Group for the development of the township. Everyone is welcome! More details? Open Jump Day - Nanango
The Nanango Hack & Pony Club will be holding an Open Jump Day at the Nanango Pony Club Grounds inside the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango from 8:00am until late today. This is an "unofficial" day so Pony Club membership isn't required, but participants will need to comply with the club's rules (particularly dress rules and safety procedures) and judging will be carried out by Pony Club judges. Entrants will also need to sign a participant's agreement. Entry fees for the jumping competitions are $6 per class or 4 classes for $20, and there'll be ribbons to 3rd, but spectators can come along for free. More details? Phone Judy on 0447-168-209.
Kilkivan Markets - Kilkivan
The weekly Kilkivan Markets will be held in Lester Millar Park in Kilkivan from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. South Burnett Orchid Society Meeting
The South Burnett Orchid Society will be holding their regular last Sunday of the month meeting at the South Burnett Youth Park in Somerset Street, Kingaroy from 2:00pm onwards this aftenoon. The Society exists for orchid enthusiasts of all skill levels and meets on the last Sunday of every month except December. New members and visitors are always very welcome. More details? Timbertown Woodworkers Meeting - Blackbutt
The Timbertown Woodworkers group will be holding their regular Sunday morning meeting at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 8:30am until around 12:00 noon today. Vivaldi's 'Gloria' - Murgon
The South Burnett Chorale and the South Burnett Community Orchestra will be presenting a joint performance of the Christmas Light Cantata and Vivaldi's Gloria at St Joseph's Hall in Angel Avenue, Murgon from 6:00pm to around 7:15pm this evening. Tonight's concert is part of both groups' annual Christmas Charity Concert series, and admission is $10 (under-12s are free). The proceeds of tonight's concert will be donated to the host's charity of choice, which in this case is Castra. Everyone is welcome!
Hivesville Country Markets
The Hivesville Country Markets will be held at the Hivesville Sports Grounds from 7:00am to around 1:00pm today. These family friendly monthly markets feature a variety of stalls including fresh local farm produce, plants, crafts and lots of food. There'll also be mini auctions running throughout the morning and there's plenty of free parking in the grounds. Sunday Afternoon Poker - Kingaroy
Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy will be hosting Sunday afternoon poker games today. Registration starts at 2:00pm and the first cards are dealt at 2:30pm. There are $150 in prizes to be won and no fees to play. More details from the RSL on (07) 4162-1755.
Blackbutt Christmas Festival
Today is the first day of the week-long Blackbutt Christmas Festival, and at 2:00pm this afternoon this 15 year old event will kick off when this year's Christmas Mural - created by Blackbutt State School students - is unveiled at the Blackbutt Memorial Hall in Coulson Street. There'll be free ice creams and drinks for children to accompany the unveiling, and everyone is welcome. The Christmas Festival will continue daily until next Sunday, December 6.
Tableland Markets
The Tableland Hall Committee will be holding their popular bi-annual Market Day at Tablelands Hall from 6:30am to around 2:00pm today. These markets are only held twice a year and are a crowd-pleaser with a lots of stalls offering everything from fresh produce through to coffee and tea, cakes and baked goods, plants and bric-a-brac. There'll also be a great steak sandwiches and hot chips on offer; a raffle; background music; a pop-up hairdresser; and fun competitions for adults and children. The Kilkivan swimming pool will be closed to the public today for a Goodchild Shield Swimming Carnival.
Putting The Zap Back Into Landcare - Wondai
The Burnett Mary Regional Group and Landcare will be jointly sponsoring an all-day workshop at the Wondai Diggers Club in Mackenzie Street, Wondai from 9:30am to 3:30pm today. Guest speaker Les Robinson will be talking about harvesting the power of reinvention to spark new zest and enthusiasm for the Landcare movement, and new communication strategies to get the word out.
