2022 Kingaroy Show

The first day of the two-day 2022 Kingaroy Show will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street from 8:00am until late tonight. In addition to the usual big range of horse, cattle and equestrian events, this year's Show will also feature Tractor Pulls; a Ute Show; Aussie FMX Freestyle Motocross; a Woodchops; a Dog Show; vintage machinery; a big display of caged birds; specialty food vans; and a lot more besides. There'll also be a jaw-dropping Sideshow Alley that's always the biggest in the region. The Show's official opening will occur in the main ring at 1:30pm and this will be followed by the Grand Parade at 2:00pm. There'll also be a Mister Minit Giant Fireworks Show around 7:30pm that will light up the night sky. Single day tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children aged 12-17 and pensioners (under-12s can get in for free if accompanied by a paying adult). Division 1 By-Election
A by-election to replace outgoing SBRC Division 1 Councillor Roz Frohloff - who resigned on March 23 - will be held in Nanango today. A polling booth will be running at Nanango State School from 8:00am to 6:00pm, and voters will have a choice of four candidates (in ballot paper order): Rebecca Jackson, Levi Madeley, Tony Edwards or Jane Erkens. Voting is compulsory for all people enrolled to vote in Division 1. You can also find out more about each of the candidates on our website. Note: Pre-poll voting was also available at the South Burnett Regional Council's offices in Drayton Street from 9:00am to 5:00pm on April 26-28; and 9:00am to 6:00pm on April 29. If you lodged a pre-poll vote you don't need to vote again today.
Nanango and Districts Aeromodellers Fly-In
The Nanango and Districts Aeromodellers club will be holding the first day of a two-day Fly In at their airfield at 437 Smiths Road, Nanango today. The event is open to all model airplane and drone enthusiasts, and guests will be coming from many other model flying clubs so spectators will have plenty to see as well. While most of the club's focus is on traditional aeroplanes, a special area will be set aside for drones with hoops, flags and banners which will allow fliers to test their skills. The club will also be running some novelty events during the two days including ribbon cutting, limbo, and landing in a circle. There will also be raffle tickets on sale for a very nice prize, with the winner drawn on Sunday around lunchtime for the benefit of those who have to leave early. 2022 Kingaroy Eisteddfod
The annual Kingaroy Eisteddfod will be running at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy from 8:30pm until about 5:00pm this afternoon. Today is the first day of dance entries, and the public is very welcome to come along and watch. Entry fees per session are $5 for adults, $3 for pensioners and children under 5 are free. The Eisteddfod will conclude on Sunday, May 8th.
Pig Out Night - Yarraman
The Royal Hotel on the D'Aguilar Highway at Yarraman will be hosting a Pig Out Night from 5:00pm to 7:00pm this evening, followed by live entertainment by from 7:00pm until late. For just $20 per head for adults (or $15 for children aged 12-16), guests can tuck into a buffet of spit-roasted pork and chicken along with roast vegies, gravy, applesauce and dessert. Pig On A Spit Night - Maidenwell
Historic Maidenwell Hotel will be holding its monthly Pig On A Spit afternoon and evening from 2:00pm until late tonight (live music starts at 2:00pm and dinner is served from 6:00pm to 8:00pm). Apart from live entertainment and lots of cold beer, there'll also be more pork than you can poke a fork at, all served up with with roast potatoes, pumpkin, corn, peas, carrots, applesauce and gravy! The hotel also has roast beef and spit roasted chicken on the menu for those who prefer not to put pork on their fork, plus a vegetarian option (ie vegies only), along with Little Butcher meat tray raffles to raise funds for Tanduringie State School. Mr Q - Nanango
The South Burnett's all-time favourite party band Mr Q will be performing at the Palace Hotel in Drayton Street, Nanango from 8:00pm until late tonight. The Proston parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the former railway line and the parkrun group is free to join. The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Saturday Golf - Murgon
The Murgon Golf Club on the Bunya Highway south of the CBD will be holding the first day of their two-day Christine Brunjes & Charlie Renouf Memorial Golf Weekend, and today's match will be a fundraiser for breast cancer research (so wear pink). Today's action will take the form of an 18 hole, 3 person ambrose that will kick off with a shotgun start at 10:00am, and nomination fees are $20 per player. There'll be raffles and prizes on offer, as well as lunch near noon and afternoon tea on completion of the round. Tonight, the club will also be hosting a dinner from 6:00pm with music by CK Music. Saturday AFL - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Saints men's and women's teams will be playing at home at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy (next to Beangrowers) today. Both teams will be contesting Round 2 of the Darling Downs competition. At 12:45pm, the Saints women take on the South Toowoomba Bombers, and they'll be followed by the men's squad taking on the Coolaroo Roos at 2:30pm. A bar and canteen will be operating on the grounds and spectators are very welcome!
Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy
Kingaroy Islanders will play Kingaroy Easts at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy at 6:30pm tonight in the second round of this season's local football competition. A canteen will be in operation and spectators are very welcome! Meanwhile, all grades of junior soccer will be played this morning at the Barambah Soccer Fields off the Bunya Highway just north of the Wondai Sportsgrounds.
Saturday Rugby League - Blackbutt
With 47th Battalion games being played in Gladstone this weekend, there won't be any A-grade rugby league games played in the South Burnett. But fans of junior league should head to Bunny Pearce Oval in Blackbutt. Eight teams of U6's will battle it out at 8:00am, followed by four teams of U8s at 8:45am, backed up by another six teams of U8s at 9:30am. After this, in U10s, four teams will play at 10:15am, followed by another four teams at 11:15am. Things will get slightly more serious after this, with the U12s playing matches at 12:15pm, 1:15pm, 2:15pm and 3:15pm before the day concludes with an U14s game between Cherbourg and Kingaroy at 4:15pm. A canteen will be operating at the grounds and spectators are very welcome.
Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at their workshop buildings at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for their regular Saturday morning get-together today, kicking off with a cuppa at 8:00am and continuing on until noon. The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
