Nanango Easter Saturday Races
- The Nanango Race Club will be holding their Easter Saturday Races at the Lee Park Raceway in Racecourse Road just south of Nanango from 10:00am to around 5:00pm today. Today's races will have an Easter fashion theme and everyone is encouraged to dress up in their best Easter outfits and/or accessories to be in the running for some great Moffatdale Ridge Fashions Of The Field spot prizes. The race club's popular licensed bar and BBQ will be operating all day under the extended covered area; the canteen will be open for sit-down dining; and there'll be plenty of bookmakers and an on-course tote in the betting ring to take your wagers. There's also lots of undercover seating and plenty of parking on course. The Easter meeting is always a biggie and - as usual - patrons are welcome to picnic on the lawns or even bring their own marquee if they like. This will be a 5 race meeting and buses will be running to the races from Kingaroy's Glendon Street Bus Depot (12:00 noon) and the rear of Nanango's Fitzroy Hotel at 12:30pm. The first race will leave the barriers around 1:20pm, but gates will open earlier so go-getters can get a head start on that all-important socialising. Admission is just $10 for adults and $5 for pensioners (under-16s are free). Everyone is welcome!
South Burnett Speedway - Kingaroy
- The South Burnett Speedway will roar into life this afternoon for the first day of the Speedway club's two-day National Production Sedan Title meeting. Today's action will feature the first round of the Production Sedans (who'll be contesting the Australian title) along with the first round of Modlites (who'll be contesting the Queensland title). Both competitions have drawn big fields of top-flight competitors, and tonight's action will begin the long process of whittling them down for the finals of both contests (which will be held tomorrow). Gates open at 2:00pm and racing will get underway at 4:00pm. As usual, canteen facilities will be operating at the track and everyone is welcome. Admission is $30 for adults, $15 for students (with ID) and aged or disability pensioners; or $75 for a family of two adults and two students (children 12 and under are free).
Wondai Autumn Garden Expo
- The first day of the weekend-long 2022 Wondai Autumn Garden Expo will be held at the Wondai Sports Grounds off the Bunya Highway just north of Wondai's CBD from 8:00am this morning through until 4:30pm this afternoon. The Expo has become one of the South Burnett's signature annual events as well as one of the largest gardening shows of its type in south-east Queensland, drawing thousands of keen gardeners to Wondai every April. As well as the usual wide range of plant and garden-related product displays, this year's Autumn Garden Expo will also feature the Wondai District Garden Club's Horticultural Show and a photographic display, along with live music and food and drink stalls. The Expo's official opening will be held at 10:30am with guest speaker Barbara Beerling discussing heritage roses from 11:00am. Adult admission to the Expo is just $5 per day or $8 for a two-day pass, and children are free.
Kumbia Charity Campdraft

This year's Campdraft will have a bumper field of competitors and will be offering some really great Easter campdrafting action, with today's competitions focussing on the first rounds of a Maiden, a Restricted Open and - if time permits - a Novice Draft, plus a Kids Novelty Gymkhana. Admission to watch all the action is 100% free for spectators and this evening there'll be live entertainment, a multi-draw raffle, a calcutta and a licensed bar running until midnight. There's also free overnight camping in the Sportsgrounds all weekend if you want to stay over. Everyone is welcome! More details? Phone Malcolm on 0427-009-399 or Monique on 0431-431-713.
Monogorilby Camp Oven Variety Muster
- Today is the second day of the three-day Monogorilby Camp Oven Variety Muster, which is held in the grounds of Monogorilby Hall north-west of Boondooma and Allies Creek. This annual event is a fundraiser for RACQ Lifeflight - who provide an essential service in this remote part of the world - and guests will be treated to Aussie bush poetry, ballads, music and comedy over the course of the next few days, along with great camp oven food. There's also free camping in the grounds (toilets, no showers), but if you want to enjoy the entertainment you'll need to buy a ticket. And because it's so remote, you'll also need to bring your own supplies plus cash since there's no EFTPOS, mobile reception is flaky at best and Mono is a long way from anywhere. However, if you're looking to really get away from the everyday, though, this event should be a lot of fun! You can find out more on the Muster's Facebook page.
