Good Friday Public Holiday
- Today is Good Friday, a public holiday. Most South Burnett business will either be closed today or operating on restricted hours. Easter Saturday, Sunday and Monday are also public holidays. If you're planning to attend something today, it would be wise to phone beforehand to check they're not taking an Easter break. And if you need to do some grocery shopping at a supermarket, your only choices are Kingaroy's Super IGA (7:00am to 9:00pm), Yarraman IGA (6:00am to 8:00pm) and Goomeri Foodworks (8:00am to 4:00pm). Finally, licenced premises are permitted to sell and supply liquor from 10:00am to 12:00pm in conjunction with a meal today if they elect to open, but takeaway sales are not permitted.
Monogorilby Camp Oven Variety Muster
- Today is the first day of the three-day Monogorilby Camp Oven Variety Muster, which is held in the grounds of Monogorilby Hall north-west of Boondooma and Allies Creek. This annual event is a fundraiser for RACQ Lifeflight - who provide an essential service in this remote part of the world - and guests will be treated to Aussie bush poetry, ballads, music and comedy over the course of the next few days, along with great camp oven food. There's also free camping in the grounds (toilets, no showers), but if you want to enjoy the entertainment you'll need to buy a ticket. Because it's so remote, you'll also need to bring your own supplies plus cash if you're attending since there's no EFTPOS, mobile reception is flaky at best and Mono is a long way from anywhere. However, if you're looking to really get away from the everyday, this event should be a lot of fun! You can find out more on the Muster's Facebook page.
Good Friday Speedway
- Drivers intending to compete in the South Burnett Speedway Club's National Production Sedan Title meeting being held this Saturday and Sunday will be doing practice laps at the Speedway's track inside the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street from 3:00pm until late tonight. Some of the country's top drivers will be competing in this weekend's event and spectators are very welcome to come along and watch them go through their paces at no charge today. More details? Visit the Speedway club's website
Intensive Driving Clinic - Nanango
- The Nanango Show Society will be running a one day Intensive Driving Clinic for people who'd like to gain (or upgrade) their skills in driving horse-drawn carriages. Today's classes will provide a full-on day with a team of coaches and schoolmaster horses (though you're welcome to bring along a horse and turnout yourself). Participants should bring - at a minimum - sunsafe clothes, sturdy footwear, their own morning tea and lunch, drinks, and a notebook and camera. The course is open to all ages and abilities, with registrations from 8:15am and a prompt start at 8:30am. Overnight camping is also available in the Showgrounds before and after the day if required. More details? Bookings? Phone the Nanango Show Society on (07) 4163-1273.
