106th Annual Nanango Show
The main public day of the 106th Annual Nanango Show will get underway at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango at 8:00am this morning when the gates open and prime cattle judging begins. There'll be all the usual show fun including a post-ripping competition, woodchopping, championship dog show, and a full range of ring events. The Show will be officially opened with a Grand Parade at 2:00pm. The popular rodeo will start at 3:00pm and will be followed by the Heritage Community Bank Fireworks Display at 8:00pm, as well as live entertainment by Don Costa from 8:30pm to midnight. Other features of this year's Show to look out for include Trotting, a Ute Muster, Vintage Car Displays, Peoppa and George Pig, The Farmer Rob Show, Bubble Muffins Kids Cooking, the South Burnett Sausage King competition, the Alpaca Collective Fashion Parade, El Jay Freestyle Entertainment, La Creme Dance Academy, the Young Farmers Challenge, a Demolition Derby and a big sideshow alley for both the young and young at heart. Admission is $12 for adults and $6 for pension card holders and children over 14. Children under 14 accompanied by a paying adult are admitted free, otherwise they're $6 too. 30th Annual Kilkivan Great Horse Ride
The 2015 Kilkivan Great Horse Ride will be held in and around Kilkivan today. The Great Horse Ride is one of the few genuine spectacles of south-east Queensland, with more than 800 riders expected to spend the day riding trails in and around the district before assembling at 4:00pm in the afternoon for the breath-taking Grand Parade along Bligh Street (Kilkivan's main street). But you don't have to be a rider to enjoy the day! From 10:00am onwards there'll be a market and food fest operating in Bligh Street. These will be followed by an all-star, fully licensed Tom Grady Campfire Concert at the showgrounds from 6:00pm until late tonight featuring the Hillbilly Goats. My Old Lady Film Night - Blackbutt
The Blackbutt-Benarkin Comunity Council will be holding a one-time screening of the mature age comedy "My Old Lady" at the Blackbutt Memorial Hall in Coulson Street, Blackbutt at 6:30pm this evening (screening starts at 7:00pm). There'll be a licensed bar and snack bar in operation, and tickets for this over-16s film are $8 per person and will be available at the door. Goomeri Golf Carnival
The first day of the weekend-long Goomeri Golf Carnival will be held at the Goomeri Golf Club in Goomeribong Road at Goomeri today. Today's events are a Mixed 4BBB and Men's 4BBB, playing for the Dan Baillie Shield (which is sponsored by Bob Baillie). Names need to be in by 11:30am for a 12:00 noon start. Learn To Sew Class - Kingaroy
A "learn to sew" class will be held at the Kingaroy QCWA Rooms in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy (just next to the RSL) from 9:00am this morning. If you'd like to take part, just bring your sewing machine, cottons and lunch - entry is free and the only cost is for materials used on the day. The class is being run by the QCWA to teach basic sewing skills, but QCWA membership is not required and everyone is welcome. More details? Phone Lois on (07) 4162-3824.
Art Exhibition Opening - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Art Gallery in Haly Street (opposite the peanut silos) will be opening their April exhibition with a wine and cheese tasting at 10:30am this morning. This month the gallery will be featuring entries in the South Burnett Regional Council's annual Acquisitive Art Competition, where the winning entry is acquired by the Council to be part of the region's permanent art collection. In keeping with the centenary of Anzac, the theme of this year's Acquisitive is "The Australian Light Horse Regiment" and more than 30 entries in all media will be up for judging, along with a People's Choice Award and a Youth Award. The exhibition will be opened by Mayor Wayne Kratzmann and Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington. After this morning's opening the exhibition will remain on display from 9:00am to 4:30pm on weekdays and 10:00am to 4:00pm on weekends until the end of the month. Admission is free and everyone is welcome!
Seafood Buffet - Murgon
Sakina's Seafood Buffet - which is held on the 2nd Saturday of each month - will be running at the Saleyard Cafe on Gayndah Road at Murgon at 6:30pm this evening. This BYO buffet offers everything from fresh oysters to Moreton Bay bugs, crabs, prawns and cooked seafoods, but bookings are essential if you want to be sure of a seat: (07) 4168-5701.
Lucas Oils Kingaroy Speedway
The South Burnett Speedway will be roaring into life at 5:00pm this evening. The meeting will feature 26 Super Sedans competing for the next round of the Queensland Series, as well as Street Stocks, Production Sedans and Junior Sedans. Tickets for tonight are $25 for adults, $15 for students and pensioners or $65 for families of four (under 12s are free). You can find out more on the Speedway's website. PS: In a first for the Speedway, the Junior Speedway Bike Club will be holding its first-ever race meeting on the Speedway's infield bike track between 2:00pm and 5:00pm (gates wil open at noon). So if your head out early, you can get to see Junior Speedway bikes competing as part of the first round of the McDonalds Series.
Saturday Afternoon Judo
The Murgon Judo Club will be holding its regular Saturday afternoon training session at the Salvation Army Hall in Macalister Street, Murgon today. The South Burnett Woodcrafters will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at their clubhouse, which is located behind the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre in Haly Street from 8:00am to around mid-day today. Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today (ie opposite Bendigo Bank). The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held on the second Saturday of every month.
