Kumbia Charity Campdraft
POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER The second (and final) day of the two-day Kumbia & District Charity Campdraft will be held at the Kumbia Sportsgrounds off Bell Street in Kumbia from early this morning when the canteen opens and begins serving up Big Country Breakfasts through until late this afternoon. This year's Campdraft will have a bumper field of competitors and will be offering some really great Easter campdrafring action. Admission to the campdraft is 100% free for spectators. There's also free overnight camping in the Sportsgrounds all weekend if you want to stay over. Everyone is welcome!
Yallakool Easter Sunday Markets
The annual Yallakool Easter Sunday Markets will be held at the Yallakool Tourist Park on the foreshores of Bjelke-Petersen Dam from 7:30am to around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets are a fundraiser for the Dam's Fish Restocking Association and feature lots and lots of market stalls. If you'd like to book a stall yourself, contact the Tourist Park on (07) 4168-4746.
Australian Sports Rotorcraft Association Nationals - Wondai
More than $2 million worth of gyrocopters will be paying a visit to Wondai Airport over the Easter weekend to take part in the four-day Australian Sports Rotorcraft Association (ASRA) Nationals. The event kicked off on Good Friday and won't finish until late tomorrow. Last year over 25 gyrocopters came to Wondai Airport, and this year organisers hope to see even more. The event is hosted by the South East Queensland Gyroplane Club, assisted by the Barambah District Aero Club and the South Burnett Regional Council. And if you're interested in gyrocopters (small one or two-person helicopters that are often assembled from kits), this Easter weekend is a perfect opportunity to see them close up and talk with the men and women who fly them for fun. Joy rides are often available too, for a modest fee. Wondai Airport is located not far from the Proston turn-off north of Wondai on the D'Aguilar Highway. You can also read more about what last year's ASRA Nationals were like on our website.
Maidenwell Marathon, Markets and Rodeo
The second (and final) day of the inaugural two-day Maidenwell Marathon will be held at Maidenwell today. As the name suggests, the Marathon is for runners and there will be 9 events over two days, ranging from 2.2km to the very rare 56km distance. Today's marathons will be for runners of all fitness levels (including children) and there'll be 5 races over 2.2km, 5km, 10km, 21.1km and 42.195km, all of which will all kick off at different times between 6:00am and 8:00am. This morning there'll also be markets running in the centre of town, and this evening there'll be a rodeo kicking off at 5:30pm, but all Marathon participants will receive a complimentary ticket that will allow them to get in for free. You can read more about the Maidenwell Marathon on the Marathon's website.
Kragra Gold Watch Campdraft and Gymkhana
The second (and final) day of the two-day Kragra Gold Watch Campdraft and Gymkhana will be held at the Kragra campdraft grounds today and tomorrow. This year's event will include Maiden, Juvenile, Junior, Novice and Open rounds, plus a Futurity for horses four years old and under. There’ll also be a Gymkhana (with five age groups) and a Mini Draft (for riders under 8 years). Today's action gets underway at 7:00am and includes the Chinchilla Toyworld Juvenile Campdraft ($250); the QGC Junior Draft ($80); Newcombe Charbray's Novice Campdraft ($2100); and the second and final rounds of the Scouller Plant Hire Open Campdraft ($2400) which ran its first round yesterday.
Easter At Cranes Winery
Cranes Winery at Haydens Road in Booie will be open between 10:00am and 4:00pm today for Easter visitors who want to get away from it all. In addition to their award-winning wines and notoriously good mixed platters, they'll also be offering three genuinely "home cooked" meals at their undercover cellar door today: a savoury crepe with fresh salad and home-made Worcestershire sauce; a Warm Chicken Salad with chicken marinated in a mild chilli and peanut sauce on a fresh salad base; and just for Easter, an open filet steak sandwich served on toasted sourdough with fresh salad and beetroot salsa. There'll also be relaxed live music too. Bookings aren't essential but are always appreciated: (07) 4162-7647
