106th Annual Nanango Show
The first day of the two-day 106th Annual Nanango Show will get underway at 9:00am this morning at Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns St, Nanango. Today's events will largely concentrate on pavilion entries judging, but there'll be an All Breeds Championship Dog Show running from 9:00am this morning and - at 5:00pm in the afternoon - a Young Judges Competition for dairy cattle and stud beef, followed by a Young Handlers competition for dairy cattle and stud beef at 7:00pm. If you attend the Show today you can get in for free (the Show's main day is tomorrow) and a bar and BBQ will be in operation from 5:00pm as well. More details? Coverty Creek Social Club Meeting
The Coverty Creek Comunity Development and Social Club will be holding its regular Friday night social gathering at the Red Shed at 198 Coverty Road, Coverty from 5:00pm until around 10:00pm tonight. 2015 Kilkivan Great Horse Ride Assembly Night
The 2015 Kilkivan Great Horse Ride will get underway from early tonight when participants assemble at Widgee and the Kilkivan Showgrounds to prepare for the Great Ride tomorrow. The Widgee assembly point (at Thorneside) will be offering a bar, BBQ and some live entertainment. And in Kilkivan, a gold coin courtesy bus will be running to and from Kilkivan township so that guests can get their dinner there. You can obtain complete details about the 2015 Great Horse Ride from the Kilkivan Great Horse Ride web site. Tomorrow, participants will set off early in the morning for the Great Ride itself - and spectators will be able to see the sight of their lives around 4:00pm in the afternoon when close to 800 horses and riders wend their way back to Kilkivan Showgrounds along Bligh Street in a spectacular display very rarely seen in this modern age.
Friday Afternoon Scroungers - Nanango
The Nanango Bowls Club in Henry Street will be holding their reglar Friday Afternoon Scroungers at 3:00pm. New players are welcome. More details from the club: (07) 4163-3363.
Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery will be opening their third monthly exhibition for 2015 with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm tonight. This month's exhibiton will be held at the Wondai Town Hall in Mackenzie Street while the Gallery undergoes renovation works, and there will be two great things on show: the 2015 Wondai Garden Expo Art Competition and “Ten Years From Here To There”, which features works created by members of the “Tuesday Morning Art Group” from Gympie Regional Gallery. As usual, tonight's opening will also feature great finger foods and punch, along with bar service from the Wondai Hotel, live entertainment and lots of fun socialising. Blue Light Disco - Nanango
The Nanango Blue Light Disco committee will be holding their second monthly U18s Blue Light Disco for 2015 at the Nanango Skating Rink in George Street, Nanango from 6:00pm to 8:00pm tonight. Jared Porter - Nanango
2014 Toyota Star Maker winner and CMC New Australian Artist Of The Year nominee Jared Porter will be performing at the Nanango RSL in Henry Street, Nanango this evening. Doors will open at 6:00pm for a 7:00pm start, and tickets - at $10 each - can be purchased from the club's reception desk.
Friday Night Sax - Wondai
The South Burnett's very own "Sultan Of Sax" Tom McKenzie will be playing at the Wondai Hotel & Cellars in Haly Street, Wondai from 6:00pm until late tonight. Country Music Night - Nanango
An informal Country Music Night will be held at the Uniting Church Hall in Gipps Street, Nanango at 7:30pm tonight. The get-together is open to both spectators and performers, and the $2 entry fee includes supper. Everyone is welcome!
Friday Social Golf - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Golf Club on the Bunya Highway at Kingaroy will holding their regular Friday 9-ers 9 hole social golfing sessions for men and women from 8:00am until dusk today. Everyone is most welcome (including non-members) and green fees are $11 for members or $14 for non-members for the nine holes - but this also includes a card draw for prizes in the clubhouse in the evening (there's also a Jackpot card draw on the last Friday of each month). Friday Morning Bingo - Kingaroy
The Endeavour Foundation will be running bingo games at Kingaroy RSL from 10:00am this morning (eyes down at 10:30am). There'll be four jackpots on offer, along with book games and raffles, and proceeds will go to help people with an intellectual disability. Everyone is welcome. More details? South Burnett Pantry
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 11:00am to 1:00pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $35 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items).
