Good Friday Public Holiday
Today is Good Friday, a public holiday and the first day of the four day Easter break. Almost all South Burnett businesses will be closed today - or operating on restricted hours - and while some social clubs and sports groups may be holding their regular Friday events, others will not - so if you're planning to attend something, it's best to phone and check beforehand. Happily, most of the world will return to normal tomorrow.
Seafood Night At The Wondai
The Wondai Hotel and Cellar in Haly Street, Wondai will be open and holding a Seafood Night from 5:00pm this evening, along with some live entertainment. Because of licensing laws surrounding Good Friday, you'll need to have a meal if you pay a visit. But since it will be one of the few licensed premises that are open in the South Burnett today, it should be a top spot to visit and a booking is probably advisable. More details? Phone the hotel on (07) 4168-5274 or 0408-346-395.
Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner - Kingaroy
The licensed Midnight At The Oasis Restaurant inside the Oasis Motel at 50-52 Walter Road in Kingaroy will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner between 8:00am and 8:30pm today (and also tomorrow and Sunday). Bookings are preferred, though, because places are limited. You can make one by phoning Tracey on (07) 4162-2399.
Good Friday Seafood Smorgasbord - Wondai
Dimities Cottage at 49 Haly Street in Wondai will be holding another of their popular monthly all-you-can-eat Seafood Buffets from 6:30pm this evening (dinner starts at 7:00pm). The Buffets feature all your favourite fresh and cooked seafood, as well as non-seafood dishes, desserts, tea and coffee. Cost is $35 per head (BYO) and since these dinners are nearly always a sell-out, bookings are absolutely essential if you want to be sure of a seat: (07) 4168-5744
Australian Sports Rotorcraft Association Nationals - Wondai
More than $2 million worth of gyrocopters will be paying a visit to Wondai Airport over the Easter weekend to take part in the four-day Australian Sports Rotorcraft Association (ASRA) Nationals. The event will kick off today and won't finish until late on Monday. Last year over 25 gyrocopters came to Wondai Airport, and this year organisers hope to see even more. The event is hosted by the South East Queensland Gyroplane Club, assisted by the Barambah District Aero Club and the South Burnett Regional Council. And if you're interested in gyrocopters (small one or two-person helicopters that are often assembled from kits), this Easter weekend is a perfect opportunity to see them close up and talk with the men and women who fly them for fun. Joy rides are often available too, for a modest fee. Wondai Airport is located not far from the Proston turn-off north of Wondai on the D'Aguilar Highway. You can also read more about what last year's ASRA Nationals were like on our website.
