The Boys From Barambah - Cherbourg
The Ration Shed Museum will be officially launching its stunning new exhibition "The Boys From Barambah" at 11:00am this morning at the Museum's extensive complex in Fisher Street, Cherbourg. Aboriginal Affairs Minister Curtis Pitt will be a special guest at the launch, which commemorates the 47 Indigenous men from Cherbourg (formerly known as Barambah) who signed up for service in WWI. The launch will also be attended by ex-soldiers and community elders, local RSL representatives and school children. Cherbourg radio station Us Mob 94.1 FM will be running an outside broadcast, and Muddy Flats singer Rocko Langton will be debuting a new song specially written for the occasion. Today's launch is a prelude to Cherbourg's Anzac Day commemorations on Saturday which will include the re-naming of Cherbourg's Memorial Park to the “Boys from Barambah Anzac Park”; and the unveiling of a new honour board which acknowledges – for the first time – all the men from the Barambah region who enlisted. Everyone is welcome! More details? Phone The Ration Shed on (07) 4169-5753. You can also read more background about today's launch on our website.
