Seafood Sunday - Bunya Mountains
If you're looking for something great to do this weekend, Lyrics Restaurant at Dandabah in the Bunya Mountains - just behind the Bunya Mountains General Store - will be holding their monthly "Seafood Sunday" from 11:00am onwards today (lunch will be served from around noon). This fully licensed restaurant will be offering a 100% fresh seafood a-la-carte menu, serving seafoods obtained from the coast yesterday - and be warned! The serving sizes are h-u-g-e. Bunya Mountains Markets
The monthly Bunya Mountains Markets will also be running at Dandabah in the Bunya Mountains today. The markets feature up to 30 stands selling quality, locally-produced fresh produce, arts and crafts and they'll be operating from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Local cafes like Poppies On The Hill and The Bunya Mountains Cafe will be offering special Market Day menus and morning teas, lunches and afternoon teas (as well as Seafood Sunday at Lyrics licensed restaurant - see entry above), and walking trail maps will be available from both cafes, the Bunya Mountains General Store and market stalls if you'd like to take a walk through the adjoining National Park.
Proston Golden Spurs Campdraft
The third (and final) day of the ACA affiliated 2015 Proston Golden Spurs Campdraft will be held at the Proston Showgrounds today, beginning at 6:00am with the Smithfield & BJ Backhoe Hire Maiden A for a total $1000 in prize-money. This will be followed by the Eric Godsell Memorial Junior for riders aged 8-12 years, and then the K Bits & Spurs Juvenile for riders aged 13-16 before this year's Golden Spurs wraps up with the Dunlop Santas Maiden B for another $1000 in total prize money. Kilkivan Sunday Markets
The weekly Kilkivan Markets will be held in Lester Millar Park in Kilkivan from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. Spirit Of The Bush Heritage & Balladeers Muster - Boondooma
The final day of the 5-day Spirit Of The Bush Heritage and Balladeers Muster will be held at Boondooma Homestead at 8262 Durong-Mundubbera Road, Boondooma today. This popular annual campout event features lots of Australia's top bush balladeers and poets (48 will be appearing at the Muster this year) along with walk-up artists. The Muster routinely attracts 700 to 800 caravanners plus day-trippers, and in addition to bucketloads of non-stop great music there'll also be camp oven meals, a licensed bar, BBQ, stalls, displays of vintage cars and engines, photography and historical items. Tickets are $95 for the full five days of the festival, or $10 if you just want a day pass for today only (children under 15 are free). Hivesville Country Markets
The Hivesville Country Markets will be held at the Hivesville Sports Grounds from 7:00am to around 1:00pm today. These family friendly monthly markets feature a variety of stalls including fresh local farm produce, plants, crafts and lots of food. There'll also be mini auctions running throughout the morning and there's plenty of free parking in the grounds. Manumbar Campdraft
The final day of the two-day Manumbar Campdraft will be held at the Manumbar Campdrafting Grounds from 6:30am onwards today, kicking off with the continuation of yesterday's Jack Perrett Memorial Novice Draft for $1260 in prize-money over two rounds. After this, the campdraft will conclude with the John Smith Memorial Open Draft for $1752 in prize-money (also over two rounds). A licensed bar will be operating all day and there'll be meals, hot showers and limited powered sites in the grounds. Admission to the draft is 100% free for spectators. More details? Field Walk - Booie
The Kingaroy Landcare Group and BGA Agriservices will be running a Field Walk at Nev and Narelle Jorgensen's property at Jorgensens Road in Booie from 2:00pm to 4:00pm this afternoon. The walk would be of interest to anyone concerned about making better use of limited rainfall on cropping land, and Nev will be comparing rainfall inflitration in pastures sown on old cropping land by placing small check banks between existing contour banks against ripping and not disturbing the soil at all. Today's get-together is is a follow-up to a similar field day run four years ago to look at the results of using each of the three methods, so it should be pretty interesting! Rock & Roll Dance Lessons - Nanango
Rock & Roll Dance Lessons will be held at the Heritage Pavilion inside Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street at 1:00pm this afternoon. The cost for a 2-hour lesson is $10 and beginners are very welcome. Classes are held fortnightly. More details? Phone Sue on 0418-759-330.
