Remembrance Day

Today is Remembrance Day and a number of public services will be held throughout the South Burnett at 11:00am this morning to mark it. Everyone is welcome to attend these services to acknowledge the sacrifices made by our nation's servicemen and women in all the conflicts Australia has participated in (which will all be run this year in a COVID Safe way). Today's Remembrance Day services will also mark the 102nd anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War. 2020 also marks 75 years since the end of WWII.
Blackbutt:
A service will be held at the Blackbutt War Memorial at the corner of Coulson and Hart Streets from 10:40am sharp.
Yarraman:
A service will be held at the Yarraman Cenotaph on the D'Aguilar Highway at 11:00am (wreath-layers should arrive prior to 10:45am).
Nanango:
A service will be held at the Nanango War Memorial at the corner of Henry and Drayton streets from 10:45am this morning (assembly is at 10:40am). The service will be followed by finger foods and refreshments at the RSL.
Kingaroy:
This year's Kingaroy Remembrance Day service will be held at Memorial Park in Haly Street, Kingaroy, beginning with a parade from Burnett Street to the park's Memorial Rotunda at 10:15am and followed by a ceremony that will run from 10:25am until around 11:30am. This year's guest speaker will be Lieutenant Matt Phillips. After the service, all guests will be invited to Kingaroy RSL for refreshments.
Wondai:
A service will be held at the cenotaph outside the Wondai Town Hall at 11:00am this morning (assembly at 10:40am). The commemoration will be followed by light refreshments at the Wondai Diggers Club in Mackenzie Street.

A service will be held at the Murgon War Memorial on the corner of Lamb and Gore Streets between 10:30am and 11:15am this morning. The day's proceedings will be followed by a light lunch in the Diggers Room to which everyone is invited. Note: Following last year's merger of the Goomeri and Murgon RSL branches, today's service will include Goomeri's commemorations.
Proston:
A service will be held at Proston State School, beginning at 10:30am
State Of Origin
The second State Of Origin match between the Maroons and Blues will be played at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney from around 7:10pm tonight. The Maroons won the first round of this ultimate annual competition 18-14 last week and the Blues will be seeking an equaliser tonight to keep their 2020 hopes alive. However, a second victory for the Maroons will put an end to the contest - so viewers can expect some very hard-fought, action packed footy from both teams. Most clubs and hotels in the region will be broadcasting the match on big screen TVs tonight, or you can stay at home and watch it on free to air TV.
State Of Origin Night - Goomeri
The Goomeri Pumpkin Festival committee will be holding a special State Of Origin Night at the Goomeri Showgrounds in Laird Street from 6:00pm onwards this evening. For $5 per person (or $10 for a family) you can enjoy a range of exotic food vans, a licensed bar and big screen coverage of the match, as well as the chance to win great raffle prizes donated by the Festival's committee and Mark Smith Menswear. Everyone is welcome!
Executive & Community Standing Committee Meeting - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Regional Council will be holding an Executive & Community Standing Committee meeting at their Council Chambers in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 9:00am this morning. Standing Committees are an initiative of the Council designed to make decision-making more public and transparent, and any decisions taken at Standing Committee level will later be ratified at the SBRC's monthly General Meeting. Today's meeting will be run under COVID Safe guidelines, but is open to the public.

The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). And anyone who's finding it hard to make ends meet is very welcome to make use of it. More details? Phone James on 0438-071-658.
