South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
National Agriculture Day - Kingaroy
Today is National Agriculture Day and an outdoor party to celebrate agriculture and its many related industries - as well as do a bit of fundraising for Rural Aid - will be held at Bethany Farm in Peterson Drive (just opposite Kingaroy airport) from 6:15pm until late tonight. Top country entertainers Dean Perrett and Mick Lindsay will be performing on stage, along with a special appearance by the Kingaroy State High School choir. There's no admission fee and alcohol will be available on the grounds, but guests should BYO blanket or chair and observe proper social distancing. The concert is being sponsored by Hancock Prospecting and while Akubras and boots are always appreciated, they're not compulsory. Everyone is welcome! Linville Heritage Festival
The second day of the inaugural, three day Linville Heritage Festival will be held at Linville and Moore today to celebrate 110 years since the first train arrived at Linville. The Old Church Gallery at Moore will be hosting a photographic exhibition about the Linville Picnic Races from 10:00am to 4:00pm today, and also running a Farmer's Lunch from noon to 2:00pm for a maximum of 35 people. At Linville, there'll be a discussion about the first train's arrival at 9:00am at Linville Station, followed by a Heritage Morning Tea at Linville Hall with live music over 4 half-hour sittings between 10:30am and 12:30pm. Meanwhile, the Linville Store will be offering pies, pasties, spuds and milkshakes on the lawn from 11:00am to 3:00pm. At noon, there'll be a Great Aussie BBQ at the Linville Hotel; the official opening of Linville's community and sculpture garden at 2:30pm and a water colour art class on the hotel's balcony at 3:30pm. Then the day will conclude with live music from Buzz Tally and Stone River Fever at the pub from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Free camping will be available in the centre of the village if you want to stay over, but some of today's events will require advance booking and a fee.
Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy
Football South Burnett will be hosting games against the visiting Sunshine Coast Goannas today at Tom Alford Oval in Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy. At 5:00pm, a game between the Goannas Women's Team and a South Burnett Women's Team will kick off, followed by a clash between the Men's Teams at 7:00pm. Spectators who've been starved of football action this year are very welcome to come along and a canteen will be running (all under COVIDSafe conditions, of course). In the morning, the Goannas will be dropping into Cherbourg for pre-match training between noon and 1:00pm at Jack O'Chin Oval. They will hand out gift bags to local children who come along to find out more about soccer.
Murgon Men's Shed Giant Garage Sale
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a Giant Garage Sale at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the big shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) from 6:30am onwards today. The sale will be offering machinery, power tools, furniture, electrical goods, outdoor gear and many sundry items donated by Men's Shed supporters, and should be a great place to pick up a bargain. Everyone is welcome!
Footloose Dance Party - Kingaroy
The Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets in Kingaroy will be celebrating the easing of pandemic restrictions with a Footloose Dance Party running from 9:00pm until late tonight. Everyone is welcome and there's no entry fee. More details? Phone the hotel on (07) 4162-1380.
Friendship Community Markets
The third Saturday of the month Friendship Community Markets will be running at the River Road end of the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets are run by the South Burnett Show Society and feature a great range of arts, crafts, fruit and garden stalls, plus unusual bric-a-brac. New stallholders are always very welcome! Yarraman Men's Shed
The Yarraman Men's Shed at the end of Mill Street, Yarraman will be holding one of its regular get-togethers today. The Men's Shed is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and new members are always welcome. More details? Send them an email
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Everyone is welcome and if you'd like to book a stall yourself - it's only $5! - call Joe on (0459) 638-282. Note: All patrons and stallholders are asked to observe proper social distancing to stay safe.
Kingaroy Dance Academy Concert
The Kingaroy Dance Academy will be holding their annual end of year concert at St John's Lutheran School in Ivy Street, Kingaroy from 6:00pm tonight (doors open at 5:00pm and close at 5:45pm). Tickets are $22 for adults or $17 for children (under 3s are free) and they can be booked online. Note: There'll also be a matinee performance at 11:00am this morning with identical ticket prices.
Saturday Cricket
The South Burnett's cricketers will be playing in Kingaroy, Wondai and Murgon today. In A Grade, Murgon Crusaders will play Gympie Wests at Murgon Sportsground in Macalister Street, Murgon, from 12:30pm, and Wooroolin Warriors will play Gympie Harlequins at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy - also at 12:30pm. In the South Burnett Cricket Competition, the first rounds of T20 games will be played, which means double headers! At 11:30am, Cherbourg will play the Warriors at Murgon State School; Kumbia Rattlers will play Kingaroy Services at the Wondai Cricket Grounds; and Nanango Scorpions will play Murgon Diggers at Murgon Sportsground. Then at 3:00pm, Kingaroy Services will play Cherbourg at Murgon State School; Warriors will play Wondai at the Wondai Cricket Grounds; and Murgon Diggers will play the Kumbia Rattlers at Murgon Sportsground. In Juniors, Kingaroy Burnett Water will play Nanango at Kingaroy State School at 8:00am in the Stage 2 competition; and in Stage 3, Kingaroy Burnett Water will play Nanango at the Wondai Cricket Grounds, also at 8:00am. Spectators are very welcome at all matches but must observe proper social distancing.
Alex The Frenchman - Wondai
Popular South Burnett entertainer Alex The Frenchman will be performing at the Cecil Hotel in Mackenzie Street, Wondai from 7:30pm until late tonight. Admission is free - but you need dinner you can also order a parmy and a pot for just $20. More details? Phone the hotel on (07) 4168-5460.
