Caulfield Cup Race Meeting - Wondai
The South Burnett Race Club will be holding their annual Caulfield Cup Race Meeting (always one of their biggest meetings of the year) at the Wondai race track today. Today's meeting will have a "Colours Of Spring" theme for the Fashions Of The Field competition (for men, ladies and couples) and will also feature an on-course TAB; live telecasts of interstate races and interstate betting fluctuations; a vigorous undercover betting ring; a great BBQ and bar; the Lady Luck Cocktail Bar; and a good card of races, along with a Fashion Parade. Buses will be leaving the Fitzroy Hotel in Nanango at 12:00 noon, the Kingaroy Hotel in Kingaroy at 12:30pm, Proston's Golden Spurs Hotel at 11:30am, the Hivesville Hotel at 11:45am and the Murgon Newsagency at 12:30pm (phone (0402) 715-242 to guarantee your seat). The first race will leave the barriers at around 1:30pm and everyone is welcome! Note: Today's meeting is sponsored by Ryan's Butchery, G. Friendship Markets - Kingaroy
The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at the Senior Citizens Centre in Avoca Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00pm today. The Waterhole Rocks Festival - Nanango
The second (and main) day of the three-day Waterhole Rocks rock 'n' roll campout weekend will roar into life at the Nanango Showgrounds from early this morning and continue on until late tonight. The festival is devoted to all things associated with 1950s and 1960s rock 'n' roll. This includes hot rods, custom cars, vintage caravans, driving games and dance lessons, all backed up by red hot rock 'n' roll acts. Today Boby Ricks, the South Burnett's very own Elvis Jeff Hancox and Heartbeat will be performing throughout the day. There'll also be competitions, trade stalls, dance lessons, grass driving out on the main show ring and lots of fun to be had before things step up a notch at 6:30pm with rock & roll band The Rockin' Bodgies playing until late - just perfect if you're looking for a rock & roll Saturday night out, complete with dancing on the Festival's special rock 'n' roll dance floor! A bar and canteen will be operating too, and admission today is $20 (or you can buy a full weekend pass for $25). Powered and unpowered campsites will be available at the Showgrounds for a nominal amount per night too, if you want to bunk down in the grounds. Speedway Practice Night - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway Club will be holding a practice night at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaqroy as drivers begin to prepare for the club's first meeting of the 2015-2016 season on November 7. There'll be lots of pedal-to-the-metal action and lots of noise (tonight's meeting is open to all divisions), and spectators can get in free to watch it providing they stay away from the pits.
Spring Strings Concert - Nanango
The South Burnett Community Orchestra string ensemble will be presenting their annual Spring Strings concert on the rear lawn of historic Ringsfield House at 45 Alfred Street, Nanango at 4:00pm this afternoon. The concert is a fundraiser for the Orchestra and helps raise much-needed funds to purchase music score sheets for the group. Today's concert will feature a variety of classical and modern works, all impeccably performed by the ensemble's talented musicians. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $5 for concessions or $20 for a family. Wine will be available for $5 per glass, and cheese platters for $10. Some chairs will also be available under the shade sails but you're welcome to BYO picnic blanket (though not alcohol or food). St John's Kindy Celebrations - Kingaroy
St John's Lutheran Kindergarten at 84-94 Ivy Street in Kingaroy will be celebrating it's 10th birthday with an Open Day and Official Ceremonies from 10:00am to 1:00pm this morning. Trivia Night - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Autism Support Group will be holding a Trivia Night at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street from 7:00pm until late tonight as a fundraiser. The theme of tonight's get-together is Hawaiian - so wear loud tropical shirts, grass skirts, floral leis or anything that puts you in a tropical mood. Play will be in teams of 8 and supper will be served at half time, but BYO drinks and nibbles for all the time in between. There'll also be a multi-draw raffle running with great prizes. McHappy Day - Kingaroy
McDonald's Family Restaurant at the corner of Youngman and Haly Streets, Kingaroy will be celebrating McHappy Day, the company's annual fundraiser for its Ronald McDonald House charity. Customers are being asked to help to raise $3.4 million nationally by purchasing a $1 Helping Hand or a pair of Ronald Socks for $3, both of which will be on sale at the Kingaroy restaurant today.
Murgon Aquatic Centre Official Opening
The new Murgon Aquatic Centre at 101 Gore Street - which opened its doors last Monday - will be officially opened at 10:00am this morning by South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann and fellow councillors. The official opening celebrations will include a free sausage sizzle, giveaways, games and lots of family fun, and everyone is welcome.
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Seafood Smorgasbord - Wondai
Dimities Cottage at 49 Haly Street, Wondai will be holding another of their popular monthly all-you-can-eat Seafood Buffets from 6:30pm this evening (dinner starts at 7:00pm). The Buffets feature all your favourite fresh and cooked seafood, as well as non-seafood dishes, desserts, tea and coffee. Wondai Swimming Club AGM

Golden Oldies 25th Anniversary - Cherbourg
Cherbourg's annual Golden Oldies Reunion for former residents of Cherbourg will be celebrating its 25th birthday at the Cherbourg Community Hall today with a Golden Oldies lunch at 12:00 noon, and then a Golden Oldies Concert Dance tonight. Cooyar Trail Bike Ride
The annual Cooyar Trail Bike Ride - a fundraiser for the Cooyar State School P&C - will be held in and around the Cooyar Showgrounds on the Cooyar Rangemore Road, Cooyar today and tomorrow. Today's events will kick off with a compulsory rider briefing at 10:00am, followed by riding around the loop from 10:15am to 3:00pm. If you're a participant, an MQ Day Licence will set you back $10 and entry fees are $65 in the Open class, $40 for Sunday riders only, $20 for Novices or $10 for Pee Wees, but spectators are welcome to come watch the action for free. There'll also be free on-site camping in the grounds on Friday and Saturday (with showers and toilets), but you'll need to BYO water and lights, and no fires can be lit due to a fire ban in the area. Dusty Day Out - Moffatdale
SOLD OUT: Dusty Hill Estate at 80 Waterview Drive in Moffatdale will be holding their fifth annual Dusty Day Out in their grounds today. This year's performers include funk, rare groove and soul outfit Thump; local talent Rowan Edwards; blues and roots band The Purple Hills; one man band Juzzie Smith; blues maestro Doc Span And Band; country rock and blues performers Pop Standen & Friends; and Sunshine Coast party band Bad Habits. Food and drink will be available from Dusty Hill's licensed tavern all day and night (strictly no BYO allowed) and free overnight camping is available in the grounds as well. There'll also be a courtesy bus running to local accommodation venues if you'd prefer a roof over your head. Invitation Open Fours - Murgon
CANCELLED: The Murgon Bowls Club in Macalister Street, Murgon will be holding its Invitation Open Fours bowls competition from 9:15am today. The competition will take the form of 3 games over 16 ends (or a bell at 2 hours 10 minutes) with scoring wins plus margins and if tied, ends to count, then scores. Nomination fees are $60 per team - which includes a basket lunch - and there'll be a $320 first prize and $160 runner up prize, along with an $80 prize to the last round winner.
