Almost 200 “gangsters” and “flappers” took over the Welfare Hall at Cherbourg recently in a revival of 1920s style.
The 24th annual “Golden Oldies” day held at Cherbourg on November 1 had a 1920s theme.
Golden Oldies is for the over-50s only. It began at Cherbourg 24 years ago when some elders in the community decided they were tired of only catching up with old friends at funerals.
They decided to organise an event once a year to celebrate life and friendship.
People with links to Cherbourg now come from all over Queensland every year to enjoy a lunch and celebration.
This year music was performed on stage by Les Collins – who hadn’t sung at Cherbourg for 40 years – along with Andy O’Chin and Muddy Flats.
Sandra Morgan, who has been on the organising committee for Golden Oldies since the very first one, said planning would now have to start for next year’s 25th anniversary Golden Oldies.
