The Waterhole Rocks Festival - Nanango
The third (and final) day of the three-day Waterhole Rocks rock 'n' roll campout weekend will roar into life at the Nanango Showgrounds from early this morning and continue on until early this afternoon. The festival is devoted to all things associated with 1950s and 1960s rock 'n' roll. This includes hot rods, custom cars, vintage caravans, driving games and dance lessons, all backed up by red hot rock 'n' roll acts. Today the South Burnett's very own Elvis Jeff Hancox and Time & Joe will be performing on stage from 9:00am until around 12:00 noon. There'll also be a "Show N Shine" happening on the main show ring at 9:00am, plus dance lessons until noon as well. A bar and canteen will be operating and admission today is completely free. Powered and unpowered campsites will be available at the Showgrounds for a nominal amount per night if you want to bunk down in the grounds. Everyone is welcome! More details? Phone the Nanango Show Society on (07) 4163-1273 or Terry on (07) 4163-1999 or 0409-496-167. You can also read more about what last year's Waterhole Rocks was like and see photos on our website.
Turn Back Time To 1960 - Yarraman
Here's something different! The Postmasters Coffee Lounge on the D'Aguilar Highway in Yarraman will be holding a 1960s Day from 11:00am to 2:00pm today. For just $20, guests can enjoy lunch, dessert and a drink as well as make use of the dance floor. Naturally, 1960s dress is encouraged (though not compulsory) and there'll be a lucky door prize as well. Doors will open at 11:00am and lunch will be served at noon. Bookings are recommended, though - especially with The Waterhole Rocks in full swing at Nanango - and you can make one by phoning Celia on 0458-765-294 or by calling into the cafe in person.
Nanango Camera Club Meeting
The Nanango & District Camera Club will be holding their monthly meeting at St Patrick's School library at 16 Alfred Street, Nanango from 1:00pm onwards this afternoon. Today the club will be working through the results of the August and September photographic competitions and a number of other agenda items; and today's workshop will look into the art of macro photography (ie shooting subjects close-up). The club will also begin picking photos for the up-coming Cliff Krebbs Memorial Trophy Competition which will be held later this year. Admission to today's meeting is $3 to cover the cost of tea and coffee, and everyone is welcome. More information? Visit the Nanango Camera Club website or email the Secretary.
Cooyar Trail Bike Ride
The second (and final) day of the annual Cooyar Trail Bike Ride - a fundraiser for the Cooyar State School P&C - will be held in and around the Cooyar Showgrounds on the Cooyar Rangemore Road, Cooyar today. Events will kick off with a compulsory rider briefing at 8:15am, followed by riding around the loop from 8:30am to 1:00pm. If you're a participant, an MQ Day Licence will set you back $10 and entry fees are $65 in the Open class, $40 for Sunday riders only, $20 for Novices or $10 for Pee Wees, but spectators are welcome to come watch the action for free. There'll also be free on-site camping in the grounds on Friday and Saturday (with showers and toilets), but you'll need to BYO water and lights, and no fires can be lit due to a fire ban in the area. A canteen will be operating today too. You can get more details by phoning Sue on (07) 4692-6193 or Jacinta on (07) 4692-6050, or by by emailing them.
