South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Intrust Super Cup Day - Murgon
An Intrust Super Cup Day will be held at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street today, and it looks like being a really jam-packed Saturday of rugby league. Activities will kick off at 8:00am with U10s (Kingaroy 1 vs Nanango) and U14s (Murgon v Kingaroy) matches, followed by U10s (Kingaroy 2 vs Murgon 2) at 8:50am and U14s (Nanango vs Chinchilla) at 9:40am. At 9:40am, Murgon 1 will play Cherbourg in U10s, and then at 10:00am there'll be an U16s match (South Burnett vs Chinchilla). This will be followed by an U12s match at 10:30am (Nanango vs Murgon 1) and then the first A-Grade match of the day at 11:10am (Murgon Mustangs vs Cherbourg Hornets) while U12s play on the second field (Kingaroy 1 vs Cherbourg/Wondai), before junior games wrap up on Field 2 at noon with a final U12s match (Murgon 2 vs Kingaroy 2). During the lunch break, U6s and U8s games will be played on Field 3 between noon and 12:45pm, before all attention turns to the main oval at 2:10pm when the feature event of the day - the Intrust Super Cup clash between the Sunshine Coast Falcons and the Tweed Seagulls - takes place. After this, the day will wrap up with a second local A-Grade match between Kingaroy's Red Ants and Nanango's Stags, which will take place at 3:50pm. Entry to the grounds today is $2 per adult (children are free) and a canteen and bar will be operating as well.
Shave For Ryley Allery & Ben Brooks - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Hotel-Motel at the corner of Haly and Youngman Streets, Kingaroy will be holding a giant Shave for Ryley Allery & Ben Brooks from 5:00pm until later tonight to help the two men in their battle with leukaemia. More than 40 mates will be shaving their heads and/or beards to show support, and there'll also be multiple raffles and auction items up for grans including signed NRL jerseys, NRL tickets, a chainsaw, a variety of meat trays and - of course - alcohol specials! This looks like being a huge night out for anyone who'd like to help this popular pair and/or a good cause, and everyone is welcome! More details? Byte Nite - Murgon
The South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon will holding their fortnightly Byte Nite from 6:00pm to around 8:30pm this evening for Murgon and Cherbourg youngsters. Children can play a range of fun and entertaining games and pursue other amusements for free during the course of the night, as well as get a free meal and a ride home afterwards if they need one, all under the supervision of caring local volunteers. Byte Nite is an initiative of the PCYC and Murgon Business and Development Association to tackle youth crime in the district by giving youngsters something to do on a Saturday night, and anyone who'd like to volunteer to help this community-driven initiative in any way should contact Sgt Rene Bond at the PCYC on (07) 4168-1889 for more information.
Seafood Buffet - Wondai
Dimities Cottage at 49 Haly Street in Wondai will be resuming their incredibly popular all-you-can-eat Seafood Buffets from 6:30pm this evening. Buffets were suspended when the pandemic broke out, but Qld Health recently allowed them to resume so Dimities have decided to bring them back on a monthly basis. The buffet features all your favourite hot and cold seafoods fresh from the trawlers, as well as non-seafood dishes, desserts, tea and coffee. Moore Hall Markets
The monthly Moore Hall Markets will be held in the grounds surrounding the Soldiers Hall just off the D'Aguilar Highway in Moore's CBD from 6:30am to around noon this morning. The markets are held on the third Saturday of each month and new stallholders are always welcome.
Barambah Shed Men - Tablelands
The Barambah Shed Men will be holding their 45th meeting at Graz Borg's shed at 217 Daniels Rd, Tablelands from 4:30pm this afternoon (turn north on Tablelands Road at Murgon's War Memorial, then right onto Levers Road, then left onto Daniels Road and look for the signs). Today's meeting will feature two guest speakers: Graz Borg, who came from Malta and has been a maintenance man and a cafe owner; and Matt French who was a truck driver before becoming a pastor, and then later returned to trucking. The cost of the meeting is $15 (which includes a meal, dessert, soft drinks, and tea/coffee) but young blokes under 15 can attend for free. Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. More details? Send an email.

The Nanango parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Ros Gregor Trail at Tipperary Flat next to the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event.
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 8:00am until around 1:00pm today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Everyone is welcome and if you'd like to book a stall yourself - it's only $5! - call Joe on (0459) 638-282. Note: All patrons and stallholders are asked to observe proper social distancing to stay safe.
Helmuth Mudra Remembrance - Kumbia
A celebration of the life of the late Helmuth Mudra will be held at the Kumbia QCWA Hall at 38 Bell Street, Kumbia from 10:00am this morning. All friends and relatives are very welcome.
Kingaroy Friendship Markets
The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00pm today. The markets are jointly run by the Kingaroy Show Society and feature a great range of arts, crafts, fruit and garden stalls, plus unusual bric-a-brac. New stallholders are always very welcome! Benarkin Rally
A round of the Next Level Creations Novice Series rally race will be held over a 19km track around Benarkin today. There'll be two stages of races run this morning, which will be combined into one long, final stage this afternoon. On-site catering will be provided by Benarkin State School's P&C and there'll be free viewing positions available for spectators near the school as well. Everyone is welcome!
Crochet Workshop - Kingaroy
The Sunshine Coast's internationally-known crochet designer and author Jenny King will be holding a workshop at the 1913 Council Chambers behind the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy (opposite the peanut silos) from 9:00am to 4:30pm today. The workshop will teach participants how to use Jenny's revolutionary "get squared" approach to create perfect fit garments in any yarn every time. Ranch Sorting - Kinleymore
The Hivesville and District Recreation Association will be holding a Ranch Sorting Day at Kinleymore (near Hivesville) today. Spectators are welcome to come along and BYO drinks and chair, and a gold coin donation sausage sizzle will be running if you get hungry. Competitors can take part for $10 per team per run, but will need to join RSNCA for insurance purposes beforehand.
