South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Mr Q At The Cecil - Wondai
The South Burnett's favourite rock and blues band Mr Q will be performing at the Cecil Hotel in Mackenzie Street, Wondai from 7:30pm until late tonight. Tony, Gavin and the boys will be delivering their upbeat mix of classic pub rock and new faves, and the hotel's kitchen will be running if you want dinner beforehand or a snack during the show. Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Western Performance Club Beginner's Show
The South Burnett Western Performance Club will be holding a Beginners Show at their grounds in Racecourse Road, Nanango from 9:00am to around 4:30pm today. Judge Rosie Fyfe will be presiding over this PHAA-approved event, and new riders are very welcome (membership of the club is just $10 for participants). A canteen will be running throughout, with Saturday evening specials and a brekky available tomorrow morning as well. Spectators are very welcome to come along too, and there's no admission charge. Note: The club will also be holding an Open Show at the grounds tomorrow.
Gamez Knight - Kingaroy
A Gamez Knight will be held at the Kingaroy Town Common Hall in Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy from 10:00am to 7:00pm today. This monthly event - now held on the second Saturday of every month - allows participants to play any of as many as 120 different board games on offer, either by themselves or with family and/or friends. Playing fees are just $5 per head for 4 hours or $15 per family and the event is a great way to get out of the house, meet new people and get social. Faberge Egg Workshop - Kingaroy
As part of its Winter Crafts Festival, the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy will be running a Faberge Egg Workshop led by Trevor Mitchell in the 1913 Council Chambers behind the gallery from 9:00am to around 3:00pm today. For $40 (to cover materials) you can learn how to create the amazing jewelled eggs so well loved by Russia's czars. Workshop bookings can be made by phoning the Gallery on (07) 4189-9323.
Graeme Jensen - Kingaroy
Popular country rock entertainer Graeme Jensen will be performing at Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:30pm until around 11:30pm tonight. Admission is free. More details from the RSL on (07) 4162-1755.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. The Nanango parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Ros Gregor Trail at Tipperary Flat next to the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event.
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 8:00am until around 1:00pm today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Everyone is welcome and if you'd like to book a stall yourself - it's only $5! - call Joe on (0459) 638-282. Note: All patrons and stallholders are asked to observe proper social distancing to stay safe.
Yarraman Men's Shed
The Yarraman Men's Shed at the end of Mill Street, Yarraman will be holding one of its regular get-togethers today. The Men's Shed is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and new members are always welcome. More details? Send them an email
Sled Dog Racing - Benarkin
Members of Sled Dog Racing Queensland will be holding their annual weekend get-together at Forest Road in the Benarkin State Forest this weekend to race sled dogs. Racing will take place this afternoon and early tomorrow morning across a range of events, with most SDRQ members will be camping at the Blackbutt Showgrounds over the weekend. Spectators are very welcome to come and watch the dogs train and/or find out more information about this unusual club's activities.
Speedway Club Presentation Dinner - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway Club will be holding its annual Presentation Dinner at the SB Care Centre at the corner of Kingaroy and Avoca Streets, Kingaroy from 5:30pm tonight (for a 6:00pm start). Guests at this semi-formal/smart casual affair will get to enjoy a great two course dinner with nibbles on arrival, plus trophy presentations to this year's winners. Tickets are $40 for adults or $30 for students aged 13 to 16 years (U12s are free) and they can be booked by phoning Tanya on 0487-003-404 before Monday, July 6.
Saturday Rugby League - Cherbourg
This weekend's local league competition will be played at Jack O'Chin Oval in Broadway Street, Cherbourg. Because of school holidays, there's no junior league again this week. But at 11:30am, the South Burnett Eagles U18s will kick off the day with a match against Oakey. This will be followed by two A-Grade games: Murgon Mustangs versus the Wondai Wolves at 1:05pm; and then the Cherbourg Hornets versus the Nanango Stags at 2:35pm. A canteen will be operating on site and spectators are very welcome.
Wooroolin Community Markets
The Wooroolin Community Markets will be held inside the Wooroolin QCWA Rooms on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 6:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets offer stalls, a sausage sizzle, fresh produce, plants and crafts and are run on the 2nd Saturday of every month except January.
