South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Wondai Winter Race Day
The South Burnett Race Club will be holding their annual Wondai Winter Race Day meeting at the Wondai race track in Cadell Street, Wondai from around 12:00 noon today (the first race leaves the barriers around 1:30pm). The fashion theme of today's meeting is "Classic Black & White" and guests are encouraged to dress to this theme to be in the running for great prizes. As usual, the meeting will feature an on-course TAB; live telecasts of Brisbane and interstate races (along with interstate betting fluctuations); a vigorous undercover betting ring; a great BBQ and bar and a Punters Podium. The always popular Lady Luck Cocktail Bar will be in full swing too, along with the track's canteen, and admission is just $10. Yarraman Men's Shed
The Yarraman Men's Shed at the end of Mill Street, Yarraman will be holding one of its regular get-togethers today. The Men's Shed is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and new members are always welcome. More details? Send them an email
Farmers Day Out - Murgon
A Farmers Day Out to show support for South Burnett farmers doing it tough will be held at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street from 1:00pm until late this evening. For a slim gold coin donation, visitors can enjoy markets with live music from 1:00pm to 4:30pm, along with a fun Farmers Olympics with rounds every hour from 1:30pm to 4:30pm featuring great events like hay baling and billy boil-offs; jaw-dropping lawnmower racing burn-outs from the Somerset & Lockyer Lawnmower Racers (heats at 1:00pm, 2:00pm, 3:00pm and finals at 4:00pm); and at 3:00pm a car crash rescue demonstration from local firies and ambos. From around 5:00pm, there'll also be an evening concert along with a BBQ - just BYO chairs or blankets. The first 100 families through the gate will also receive a free Goodies Bag, and all visitors will get a ticket in the lucky gate draw for one of 8 great prizes. Farmers who quote their PIC or Grower Number can also go into a free draw to win one of four special gift baskets. And in addition to lots of inexpensive market goodies there'll also be a ton of free info available to help farmers or their mates navigate difficult times. The day is designed to be inexpensive for everyone, no matter what their financial circumstances, and families are particularly encouraged to come along - but everyone is welcome! More details? Dinner With The Captains - Kingaroy
POSTPONED: The 2020 Dinner With The Captains - a major annual fundraiser for the South Burnett's Relay For Life effort - will be held at Kingaroy Town Hall from 5:00pm this evening (for a 5:45pm start). This year's semi-formal dress dinner has been sponsored by the Tarong Power Stations, Stanwell Corporation, Downer EDI, TAFE South West, Swickers and McDonald's Kingaroy, and this year's special guests will be Australian sporting legends Natalie Cook OAM, Kelvin Kerkow OAM and Allan Langer AM. There'll also be an auction of great sporting memorabilia during the evening, along with a big silent auction. A free bus will also be running between this event and Murgon, but tickets are now sold out. Note: This event was postponed today to a new date to be specified after the State Government announced a COVID-19 lockdown for the Brisbane region.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. More details? Send an email.
Nanango Parkrun
The Nanango parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Ros Gregor Trail at Tipperary Flat next to the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event.
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 8:00am until around 1:00pm today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Everyone is welcome and if you'd like to book a stall yourself - it's only $5! - call Joe on (0459) 638-282. Note: All patrons and stallholders are asked to observe proper social distancing to stay safe.
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Christmas In July - Kingaroy
Kingsley Grove Estate at Stuart Valley Drive south-west of Kingaroy will be running a Christmas In July at their winery from 6:00pm until late tonight. Guests can get to enjoy a three course meal of Yuletide favourites prepared by JC Catering, along with live entertainment from Rob and Claire Fitz-Herbert and two complimentary drinks that include Kingsley Grove wines, beers or pre-mixed spirits as well as non-alcoholic beverages. Tickets are $70 per person and can be booked online
Karaoke - Yarraman

Proston Rally
The Proston Car Rally Club will be holding their quarterly Proston Rally at their racing track this weekend (the club's track is located 7.5km west of Proston at 757 Proston-Boondooma Road). Racing will commence around 11:00am this morning and there'll also be burnouts from around 6:00pm, with racing wrapping up around 2:00pm tomorrow afternoon. Up to 50 cars attend Proston Rally Club meetings from all over Queensland and NSW and spectators are very welcome. There'll also be a BBQ and soft drinks stand running throughout the event, as well as a bar running from 5:00pm tonight and a hearty breakfast supplied by the Proston Lions club available early on Sunday morning. Saturday AFL - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Saints will be playing their final home game in this year's Darling Downs AFL competition at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy today. The Saints' women's team will take on Goondiwindi's Hawks at 12:45pm, followed by a clash between Saints men's side and the Hawks at 2:30pm. A canteen and bar will also be running at the grounds, admission is free, COVIDSafe rules apply and everyone is welcome!
Brad Sorensen - Kingaroy
Entertainer Brad Sorensen will be performing at Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:00pm until around 11:00pm tonight. Admission is free. More details from the RSL on (07) 4162-1755.
Pig On A Spit Night - Maidenwell
The historic Maidenwell Hotel will be holding its monthly Pig On A Spit evening from 6:00pm until late tonight (dinner is served from 6:00pm to 8:00pm). There'll be live entertainment from Arthur Nettelfield and lots of cold beer, along with more pork than you can poke a fork at, all served up with with roast potatoes, pumpkin, corn, peas, carrots, applesauce and gravy! The hotel also has roast beef and spit roasted chicken on the menu for those who prefer not to put pork on their fork, plus a vegetarian option (ie vegies only), along with Little Butcher meat tray raffles to raise funds for Tanduringie State School. Saturday Rugby League - Cherbourg
This weekend's local league competition will be played at Jack O'Chin Oval in Broadway Street, Cherbourg, kicking off with n U12s match (Kingaroy 1 vs Murgon 2) at 8:00am; then an U14s match (Kingaroy vs Murgon) at 8:50am. This will be followed by U6s at 10:00am, U8s at 10:45am, and then three U10s matches: Kingaroy 1 vs Murgon 2 at 11:30am; Kingaroy 2 vs Murgon 1 at 12:20pm; and Nanango vs Wondai/Cherbourg at 1:10pm. After this, junior games will conclude with two U12s matches - Murgon 1 vs Cherbourg at 2:00pm, and Nanango vs Kingaroy 2 at 2:50pm. The day's senior footy will then take to the field for an A-grade double header between Nanango's Stags and Wondai's Wolves at 3:45pm, followed by a clash between Cherbourg's Hornets and the Kingaroy Red Ants at 5:15pm. A canteen will be running in the grounds all day and spectators are very welcome.
Byte Nite - Murgon
The South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon will holding their fortnightly Byte Nite from 6:00pm to around 8:30pm this evening for Murgon and Cherbourg youngsters. Children can play a range of fun and entertaining games and pursue other amusements for free during the course of the night, as well as get a free meal and a ride home afterwards if they need one, all under the supervision of caring local volunteers. Byte Nite is an initiative of the PCYC and Murgon Business and Development Association to tackle youth crime in the district by giving youngsters something to do on a Saturday night, and anyone who'd like to volunteer to help this community-driven initiative in any way should contact Sgt Rene Bond at the PCYC on (07) 4168-1889 for more information.
Midnight Muster - Wondai
