South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
NAIDOC Day - Cherbourg
POSTPONED: Cherbourg will be holding its annual NAIDOC Day celebrations from 10:00am to 2:00pm today in ANZAC Memorial Park opposite The Ration Shed Museum in Barambah Avenue, Cherbourg. NAIDOC - the National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee - is now an annual celebration of Indigenous culture, and runs from the first Sunday in July to the following Sunday. This year's celebrations will include the food and market stalls; the presentation of Cherbourg's annual Community Awards; and performances by the Wakka Wakka Dancers and Muddy Flats. This will also be a COVID Safe event, and everyone is welcome. NAIDOC Day in Cherbourg is always a lively and fun celebration for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, and you can read more about what a previous NAIDOC Day was like - and see photos - on our website. Note: Due to current uncertainty about the COVID pandemic and the lockdowns in SE Queensland, this event has been postponed until the situation normalises.
Free Film Screenings - Cherbourg
POSTPONED: The Ration Shed Museum in Barambah Avenue, Cherbourg will be hosting free screenings of two landmark Australian films today as part of this year's NAIDOC Week celebrations. The films are "The Fringe Dwellers", Bruce Beresford's 1986 film about a young Aboriginal girl who dreams of life beyond the family camp that was largely shot in Murgon; and "Rabbit Proof Fence", Phillip Noyce's 2002 film about two Stolen Generation Aboriginal girls who escape the Moore River Native Settlement north of Perth and trek 1500km along the rabbit proof fence to their home at Jigalong in the far north of Western Australia, which won the 2002 AFI Film Awards and has since gone on to win many other awards around the world. The Fringe Dwellers will screen from 10:00am to 11:30am, and again from 1:00pm to 2:30pm; and Rabbit Proof Fence will screen from 11:30am to 1:00pm, and again from 2:30pm to 4:00pm. All screenings will take place under COVID Safe rules and everyone is welcome. Digital Media Workshop - Nanango
Visit South Burnett will be hosting a Digital Media & Online Marketing Workshop at the Nanango RSL in Hentry Street, Nanango at 6:00pm (for a 6:30pm start) this evening. The workshop will discuss online marketing techniques and provide an overview of the strengths and weaknesses of different communication channels. Tuesday Night Bingo - Blackbutt
Bingo games will be held at the Blackbutt Memorial Hall in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 7:00pm tonight (eyes down at 7:30pm sharp). Alcoholics Anonymous - Nanango
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other to help solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership, nor is it allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organisation or institution. South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:00 noon today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items).
