South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and routinely attract 320 to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Dance - Tablelands Hall
A dance (and dance lessons, if you need them) will be held at Tablelands Hall from 6:30pm until late tonight (supper is served at 6:30pm; dancing will follow afterwards). The dance will feature old time and new vogue numbers and admission includes the supper. Entry is $10 for adults, $5 for high school students and $2.50 for anyone else. Everyone is welcome! Cooyar Show Ball
The annual Cooyar Show Ball - the traditional curtain-raiser for the Cooyar Show on February 22nd - will be held at Cooyar Hall on the New England Highway at Cooyar from 7:30pm until late tonight. A feature of this fully licensed event will be the judging of Miss Cooyar Showgirl, Matron of the Ball, Belle of the Ball, Miss Teen Showgirl and Junior Princess. Music will be supplied by The Silvertones and there'll be a great supper available too! Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for high school students and U12s are free. Everyone is most welcome to attend. VLAD Law Protest - Nanango
South Burnett Greens spokesperson Grant Newson will be staging another VLAD Law (ie "outlaw bikie law") protest at the Nanango Markets between 6:00am and 12:00 noon today. Members of the public who'd like to join the protest are invited to don pink clothing and come along. South Burnett Endurance Riders 20km Ride - Blackbutt
The South Burnett Endurance Riders Association will be holding a 20km ride along the Blackbutt Rail Trail and through the Benarkin State Forest this afternoon. Riders will leave the Blackbiutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road, Blackbutt at 2:00pm (3:00pm if the weather's very hot) and should be back there by 5:00pm. Shed Happens - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Shed Men will be holding their 39th meeting at Jorgensen's "Shue-N-Jay” Ranch at 88 Jorgensen's Road (about 9km from Kingaroy on the Barker Creek Road) from 5:00pm onwards this evening. Tonight's get-together will feature a demonstration and talk on cattle judging by show judge Glen Perrett, followed by a talk from special guest speaker Angus Lane, the well-known agricultural show presenter at the Brisbane EKKA, Sydney Royal and hundreds of other country shows throughout Australia. The $10 admission fee includes a meal, dessert, soft drinks, coffee & tea (BYO if you want something harder). All blokes are welcome, and young blokes under 15 can get in for free. More details? Ladies Night Out - Kingaroy
A special Ladies Night Out will be held at 19 Avocado Crescent in Kingaroy from 5:00pm onwards this evening. The event is being staged by Glenice Larsen for the womenfolk of South Burnett Shed Men (see entry elsewhere on this page), and Carolyn Knudsen will be a special guest speaker. Admission is free but guests should bring along a plate of food for a shared supper. Everyone is welcome, and you can obtain more details by phoning Glenice on (07) 4162-7130. Note: To assist with planning, an RSVP by 27-Jan-14 would be greatly appreciated.
Saturday Cricket
After a one-week break for the Australia Day weekend, the South Burnett's 2013-14 A-Grade cricket competition will enter its 13th round today, with Kingaroy RSL playing Kingaroy Warriors at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy; and the Murgon Crusaders tackling the Wondai Wolves at Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street, Murgon. Both matches are two-day games, and they will conclude next Saturday, February 8. And in the 12th round of the B Grade competition, Barambah will play Kingaroy RSL at Murgon State High School; the Murgon Colts will spin out against the Kingaroy Warriors at Murgon Sportsgrounds; and the Kumbia Rattlers will play the Murgon Diggers at the Kumbia Sportsgrounds (these are all one-day games). Spectators and supporters are very welcome at all matches.
Debbie Robertson - Nanango
Popular entertainer Debbie Robertson will be performing at the Nanango RSL in Henry Street, Nanango from 6:00pm to 10:00pm tonight. Admission is free. More details from the club on (07) 4163-1375.
South Burnett Woodcrafters Meeting - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Woodcrafters will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at their clubhouse, which is located behind the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre in Haly Street. from 8:00am to around mid-day today. Annual Stamp Day - Nanango
The Nanango Stamp Club will be holding their 20th annual Stamp Day from 9:00am to 4:00pm today at the Nanango State High School Hall in Elk Street, Nanango. The event will feature a philatelic auction, a cent auction, a bargain table and a very busy canteen. There'll also be lots of great displays to delight any true philatelist's heart; three professional stamp dealers and 16 stamp clubs in attendance. Admission is completely free and refreshments will be available on-site too. Everyone's welcome to come along and get stuck in!
Footsteps - Kingaroy

Proston Rally - Proston
The Proston Car Rally Club will be holding their quarterly CAMS Khanacross Multiclub Rally at their racing track this weekend. The Club's track is located 7.5km west of Proston on the Proston-Boondooma Road, and racing will commence around 9:30am this morning and conclude at around 1:30pm tomorrow. Up to 50 cars attend Proston Rally Club meetings and spectators are very welcome. There'll be a BBQ and soft drinks stand running throughout the event, as well as a breakfast early on Sunday morning for campers. There'll also be a licensed bar operating at set times too. Hot showers, toilets and free camping are available on site. Admission to the Rally is free for spectators, $40 for adult participants and $25 for juniors. More details?
