South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Lucas Oils Kingaroy Speedway
The South Burnett Speedway Club will be roaring into life at 4:00pm this afternoon with another great speedway meeting featuring V8 sprintcars, late models (outlaw format!), wingless sprints and lightning sprints. There'll also be a fireworks display after dark, and a canteen will be operating too. Tickets to today's racing are $25 for adults, $15 for students or $65 for families of four (under-12s are free) and gates will open at 1:00pm. You can find out more on the Speedway's website. Special Note: As a warm-up to tonight's event, the Speedway will also be holding a Fan Appreciation Morning outside Down Under Cellars at the corner of Haly and Youngman Streets opposite Maccas from 9:00am to 12:00 noon today. Young fans will be able to play World Of Outlaws and other games and there'll be cars on display, plus prizes and giveaways, and a sausage sizzle to raise funds for the Make A Wish Foundation. In addition, there'll be dance-offs every 30 minutes where you can compete for free tickets to tonight's Speedway. Be there or be square!
Bunya Mountains Annual Picnic - Dandabah
The Bunya Mountains Natural History Association will be staging their popular Annual Picnic from 10:00am to 4:00pm today at the Association's headquarters and museum at "Cedarvale" (at Dandabah Park in the heart of the Bunya Mountains). Visitors to this free event will be given morning and afternoon teas and lunch and there'll be all day entertainment as well. All past and present residents of the Bunya Mountains and anyone who shares a love of this unique National Park are most welcome! Over the last few years the Annual Picnic has steadily grown to become the signature yearly reunion event for Bunya Mountaineers that many people now travel large distances to attend. More details? Rugby League Carnival - Cherbourg
The annual Simpson Memorial Suicide Prevention Football carnival will kick off at 11:00am today at Jack O'Chin Oval at Cherbourg with an Over 35s match between the Cherbourg Rovers and the Simpson Memorial Masters. This will be followed by an Open women's game featuring the Cherbourg Hornettes at 12:30pm and the Open Men's - featuring the Hornets - at 2:00pm. Entry is $5.
Salsa Night - Kingaroy
Captains Paddock Vineyard in Millers Road, Kingaroy will be holding a Salsa Night from 6:00pm onwards this evening. Guests will receive a glass on sangria on arrival, then dance lessons by Laila from Cardio Central, traditional tapas and a whole lot of fun. There'll also be a prize for the best attire on the night (so bring a long-stemmed rose!). Tickets are $40 and can be obtained from Captains Paddock or Cadio Central in Pound Street, Kingaroy. Murgon Camera Club Meeting - Wondai
The Murgon Camera Club will be holding their regular second Saturday of the month meeting at The Studio at the rear of the Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai from 2:00pm to 4:00pm this afternoon. Smithfeld Feedlot Golf Day - Proston
The Proston Golf Club on Brigooda Road at Proston will be holding their annual Smithfield Feedlot Golf Day today. Activities will kick off early with a 9 hole individual stroke competition for men and women, with a shotgun start at 8:30am. This will be followed by as BBQ lunch, and then a 9-hole, 3 ball ambrose starting at 12:30pm, followed by a BBQ dinner. Admission is $15 for one competition and one meal, or $20 for both competitions and both meals. All non-golfers will be given handicaps of 17 and every team member will have a minimum of 3 drives. Barambah Shed Men Meeting - Murgon
The Barambah Shed Men will be holding their 23rd meeting at Steve Dunn's farm in Hastings Strteet, Murgon from 5:00pm onwards today. Host Steve will give an exhibition of horsemanship to kick off the meeting, and this will be followed by a relaxed BBQ and drinks at 6:00pm as Steve shares his story about his early life in NSW, how he got into the meat industry and ended up in Murgon, his life as a cattle buyer, and the passion he and wife Kerri have for horses. Steve will be followed by guest speaker Jim Stuart, who grew up in Darwin developing a keen interest in other cultures. Later - as a commercial pilot - Jim flew in PNG and Northern Australia doing mission and community work, then volunteered for overseas disaster relief work in Pakistan and Sri Lanka; and then spent a year in West Africa with an Australian food project. Recently Jim also spent 2 years on Cape York in employment and training work for indigenous Australians (though he and his wife, Margot, now reside at Nambour). The $10 admission fee includes a meal, dessert, soft drinks and tea/coffee (young blokes under 15 can come along for free), but an RSVP by November 4th would be appreciated for catering purposes. Note: To find Steve's farm - coming from Wondai - turn left at the Royal Hotel into Gore Street, then take the first right into Angel Avenue, which swings left at the end into Nutt Street. Then take the 2nd right into Houghton Streeet, then first left into Hastings Street. The 500m-long driveway to Dunns farm begins at the end.
Curry Night - Maidenwell
Here's something different! The Maidenwell Hotel will be holding another one of their popular Curry Nights with Chef Sudha from 6:30pm onwards this evening. For $28 per head, guests can get to enjoy an all-you-can-eat three course Indian banquet, and obtain all the beer necessary to wash it down over the bar. Curry and cleansing ales are a time-honoured mix and Chef Sudha's curries are South Burnett legends. Bookings are advisable, though, if you want to be certain of a seat. ICPA Annual General Meeting - Chahpingah
The Auburn-Burrandowan-Cadarga (ABC) branch of the Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association (ICPA) will hold its annual general meeting at John and Jane McLaughlin’s property, ‘Mounefontein’, at Chahpingah this afternoon. Saturday Cricket
The South Burnett's 2013-14 cricket season will enter its 4th round today. In A-Grade, Warriors will play Crusaders; Nanango will play Wondai; and RSL will have a bye. In B-Grade, Diggers will play RSL; Kumbia will play Warriors; and Barambah will play Colts. And in the U14s competition for the Walters Shield, Wildcats will play Jaguars at Nanango State High School from 8:15am, while Nanango will play Murgon at the Nanango Soccer Grounds, also starting at 8:15am.
Seafood Buffet - Murgon
Sakina's Seafood Buffet - which is held on the 2nd Saturday of each month - will be running at the Saleyard Cafe on Gayndah Road at Murgon at 6:30pm this evening. Cherbourg Council By-Election
A By-Election to replace outgoing Cherbourg councillor Duncan Cobbo, who's been forced to retire early due to ill health, will be held today. A polling booth will be operating at the Cherbourg State School in Fisher Street, Cherbourg from 8:00am to 6:00pm. Voting is compulsory.
Men's Shed - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Men's Shed will be open from 9:00am to 12:00 noon today behind the Salvation Army's headquarters at 44 Alford Street in Kingaroy. The shed is open to all men who'd enjoy the companionship of other men while undertaking woodwork, metalwork or similar projects or who'd just enjoy a chat. More details?
