South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Wheatlands State School Centenary
Wheatlands State School will be celebrating its Centenary today with lots of memorabilia displays; music; market stalls; raffles and prizes; food and drinks and live entertainment. Gates will open at 9:00am and the official opening will occur at 10:30am with speeches and choral and instrumental performances. This will be followed with a Roll Call and photos at 12:00 noon. Market stalls will be operating through until 3:00pm, and there'll be evening entertainment from 6:00pm until late. Items from a time capsule buried in 1983 will be distributed to descendants, and items will be collected for a new capsule which will be buried next month. All past and present students and teachers (and anyone else who's had a connection with the school over the last century) are very welcome! More details? Jest Call Me Cowboy - Kingaroy
The Nanango Theatre Company will be holding the second performance of their latest theatre-restaurant production "Jest Call Me Cowboy" at the Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy at 7:00pm this evening. This hilarious new show spoofs the cowboys and indians genre, and has been witten by South Burnett playwright Judith Prior. Tickets - which include a great two course meal and the chance to win prizes - are $40 per head (or $35 for groups of eight or more). They can be booked by phoning Brad on (0409) 895-527. Hand Made Expo - Nanango
A Hand Made Expo will be held at St Patricks School Hall at 16 Alfred Street, Nanango from 9:00am to 1:30pm this morning. The Expo is a joint venture between the Nanango Art Society and the Rural Kids & Bubs Market and will feature nothing but hand-made goods (just perfect for early Christmas shopping!). Shed Happens - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Shed Men will be holding their 38th meeting at 82 Kingaroy-Cooyar Road (just opposite Kingaroy airport) in Brad Sellicks shed from 5:30pm onwards this evening. Brad rebuilds all types of cars and there'll be a display of his work on show. Lt. Colonel Donald Woodland will be the special guest speaker at tonight's get-together. Donald was born in China to Salvation Army officer parents; did a tour of duty in Vietnam; was first chaplain to the ACT police force; and was present at the Thredbo Disaster. Donald was also involved in the Kingaroy Speedway while he was in Kingaroy - so between Don and Brad there'll definitely be a bit of a rev-head flavour to tonight's get-together! The $10 admission includes a meal, dessert, soft drinks, coffee & tea (BYO if you want something harder). All blokes are welcome, and young blokes under 15 can get in for free. More details? Bike Education For Adults - Murgon
The South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon will be starting a 4-week "Bike Education For Adults" course this morning. Today - and over the next three Saturdays - participants will learn how to set their bike up; general bike maintenance skills; how to change gears on a bike; and how to take a water bottle out while riding. The course will run from 7:00am to 8:00am and the course fee is $5 per session (though you must be a PCYC member first). More details? Phone the PCYC on (07) 4168-1889
Grab Life By The Bowls - Proston
The Proston Bowls Club in Murphy Way, Proston will be holding "Grab Life By The Bowls - a fundraiser for the Brighter Future 4 Kids Foundation - from 4:30pm to around 10:00pm tonight. This fun get-together will be offering introductory lawn bowls lessons for the whole family for a modest charge (wear soft-soled shoes or go barefoot) and there'll also be food, a licensed bar, ertertainment, music and lots more! Men's Shed - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Men's Shed will be open from 9:00am to 12:00 noon today behind the Salvation Army's headquarters at 44 Alford Street in Kingaroy. Saturday Cricket
The South Burnett's 2013-14 cricket season will enter its 5th round today. In A-Grade, the Wondai Wolves will play Kingaroy RSL at the Wondai Sportsgrounds, while the Murgon Crusaders will play the Nanango Scorpions at the Murgon Sportsgrounds. And in B-Grade, Kingaroy RSL will play Kingaroy Warriors at Taabinga State School; Murgon Colts will play the Kumbia Rattlers at the Murgon Sportsgrounds; and the Murgon Diggers will play Barambah, also at the Murgon Sportsgrounds. Spectators and supporters are very welcome at all matches.
Friendship Markets - Kingaroy
The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at the Senior Citizens Centre in Avoca Street, Kingaroy from 6:30am to around 12:00pm today.
