An old metal sign that looked destined to be scrapped has been restored, thanks to the Wondai Men’s Shed and the intervention of South Burnett Mayor Kathy Duff.

Mayor Duff, who served on Wondai Shire Council prior to the Council amalgamations, learned about the sign which had been left in Council storage.

The Wondai Men’s Shed agreed to take on the restoration and were proudly showing off the results on Friday morning to local councillor Ros Heit.

The men have carefully erected the restored sign in front of the Wondai Heritage Museum in Mackenzie Street.

It is believed the sign was originally placed in Coronation Park about the time of the Bicentennial in 1988 and may originally have had a birthday cake underneath it.
