The Murgon Mustangs were simply too strong at the end for Nanango in the South Burnett Rugby League’s Under 14s Grand Final played at Blackbutt last Saturday.
Murgon ran away winners 34-0 after leading 12-0 at half-time.
The Stags were actually the first to cross the line but it was ruled a no try, followed almost immediately by a failed try attempt by Murgon.
Nanango’s defence kept Murgon out until five minutes from half-time, when Malachi Missi-Day scored, converted by Lakiri Renouf … the first of his five conversions on the day.
A minute later, Bam Davis crossed again for Murgon, leading to the 12-0 scoreline at the break, which didn’t really reflect the run of play in the first half.
But the second stanza belonged to the Mustangs … Roy Fisher scored in the corner and Renouf stamped his dominance with three tries.
Renouf’s performance earned him a much-deserved Player Of The Final trophy.

There was another Grand Final played on Saturday!
The Under 15/16 Development Cup Grand Final, part of the Toowoomba Junior Rugby League competition, was played in Toowoomba and the South Burnett Eagles were triumphant!
They defeated Toowoomba Valleys 35-6.
