FLASHBACK: Then-Assistant Minister for Energy Lance McCallum with Stanwell General Manager (Southern Generation) Michael Joy and Mayor Brett Otto at the official unveiling of the EV charger in the Alford Street car park in February 2022 … the unit is now broken and will be “decommissioned” by the SBRC

Were there any EV chargers available for tourists to use in Kingaroy over the recent Easter break?

Maybe or maybe not …

southburnett.com.au received a complaint there were no chargers working when a visitor came to town over the break so we asked the South Burnett Regional Council this week if they knew what was happening.

A spokesperson confirmed the Council-owned EV charger in the Alford Street car park was “currently non-operational”.

“It was an early stage Tritium charger that was donated to Council and is currently out of warranty,” the spokesperson said.

“A number of earlier generation Tritium chargers have been removed by councils due to ongoing issues.

“Council is currently planning to decommission the charger until a replacement unit can be provided in the future.”

The spokesperson said the two EV chargers in the Glendon Street car park were owned by the State Government and managed by Yurika.

As of Friday, one of these was online.

“The Plug Share app currently shows the 22kW charging station is available for use and Council understands Yurika is investigating options for the units,” the spokesperson said.
