The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 11:00am to 1:00pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $35 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai will be opening their latest monthly exhibition with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm this evening. Tonight's show is the 19th annual South Burnett Art Competition, and it will feature works submitted by South Burnett artists keen to win the large range of prizes on offer. Tonight's exhibtion will also officially lunch the South Burnett And Cherbourg On Show long weekend, and both will be officially opened by SBRC Mayor Wayne Kratzmann at around 7:00pm. Two other highlights of tonight's opening will be the launch of the Wondai Hotel's new "Yolo" wine label; and live entertainment by the South Burnett's favourite indigenous country-rock band Muddy Flats. Art Exhibition Opening - Kingaroy
The Nimue Art Gallery in King Street, Kingaroy will be opening "Here And Beyond" - a new joint exhibition by well-known South Burnett artists Karol Oakley and Joanne Tollefson - from 11:00am to 3:00pm today. The exhibition showcases new works by both artists which have been inspired by their travels around Australia and overseas, and it includes pastels, water colours and oils. Back To Wengenville Day
A "Back To Wengenville Day" will be held at the site of Wengenville, in the foothills of the Bunya Mountains, and at Maidenwell today to remember the vanished timber town. The South Burnett Regional Council will be unveiling special signs to commemorate the town at 9:30am. After the official unveiling, everyone will return to the Maidenwell Hall for morning tea and to inspect photographs, a scale model of the town and other memorabilia. Former Wengenville residents who are planning to attend on Saturday, but have not yet RSVP’d, are asked to contact John and Sandy Learmont on 0409-625-865 as soon as possible.

Maidenwell Folk Music Gathering
The first day of the three-day Maidenwell Folk Music Gathering will be held in and around the Maidenwell Hotel from 8:00am this morning (when activities will kick off with poetry recitals and barista-prepared coffees) through until late tonight. Apart from a wide selection of walk-up folk music being performed on the hotel's verandahs and at a Chalkboard Concert inside the hotel tonight, there'll also be a small number of market stands featuring anything from photography to Aboriginal art, face painting to bamboo and flute-making and cigar box art; and also several music-related workshops too. The 2013 Relay For Life will be held this weekend at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy. This is the Cancer Council's major annual fund-raising event in the South Burnett. Gates will open at 2:00pm and the opening ceremony will be held at 3:00pm with guest speakers, followed by the Survivors and Carers Walk. 2013 Heritage Nanango Mardi Gras
The annual Heritage Nanango Mardi Gras will be held in Nanango's CBD from 10:30am this morning when the popular King & Queen Of The Mountain Foot Races get underway from the corner of Fitzroy and Drayton streets. These races will be followed by the perenially popular Mardi Gras Street Parade - the biggest in the South Burnett - which will start in front of the Nanango Cultural Centre in George Street at 12:30pm, wend its way up Drayton Street to the corner of Gipps Street, and then return to George Street before the floats continue on to Pioneer Park, where the main part of the Festival will be held for the rest of the day. Pioneer Park itself will be full of market and food stalls, and at 3:00pm local bands and performers will take to the stage for an afrternoon and evening of non-stop entertainment that will be broken by the traditional Giant Fireworks Display at 8:00pm. This in turn will be followed by The Mr Q Experience with guest vocalists Leila May, Luke Green and Stella Cisneros with guest artists Keith Edwards, Cary Elmer and Annastasia (fire-twirling display), which will continue until late into the night. This includes hot rods, custom cars, vintage caravans, driving games and dance lessons, all backed up by rock 'n' roll acts. The second (and main) day of the three-day Waterhole Rocks rock 'n' roll campout weekend will get underway at the Nanango Showgrounds at 12:30pm this afternoon with entertainment from Debbie Robertson and Jeff Hancox (they'll also perform a second set at 6:30pm) and then Route 66 from 8:00pm until late. During the day there'll also be grass driving and games on the main oval, and rock & roll dance lessons available in the main pavilion. The first day of the two-day Yhurri Gurri Weekend will be held at Cherbourg and Murgon today. "Yhurri Gurri" is the new name for Cherbourg's annual "Golden Oldies" celebrations for residents and visirors aged 50 and above. Today's activities will kick off at the Cherbourg Welfare Hall at 11:00am with an all-day concert (which will run until 6:00pm) featuring special guest artists country music star Roger Knox, Lance “You’ll Never Find Another Cherbourg Boy Like Me” O’Chin, and Cherbourg’s own Muddy Flats Band. There’ll also be prizes for the best design shirt promoting your tribal group, lucky door prizes and photo shoots. 2013 Murgon Music Muster
The first day of the four-day Murgon Music Muster will get underway at the PCYC complex at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street, Murgon between 3:00pm and 10:00pm this evening. The Muster is being organised by the Murgon Rotary Club and tonight - and over the next three days - it will feature a wide range of country and bush balladeering talents. Tonight's show will feature walk-up artists between 3:00pm and 8:00pm, followed by the South Burnett's favourite indigenous band Muddy Flats from 8:00pm to 10:00pm. Dinner will be available in the grounds, too. Admission is just $10 and overnight camping is available in the grounds for between $5 and $7.50.
