Thomas Keneally - Kingaroy

Famous Australian author Thomas Keneally will be appearing at Kingaroy Library in Glendon Street, Kingaroy from 1:30pm to 2:30pm this afternoon to discuss his works. Keneally wrote Schindler's Ark (amongst many other great novels) which won the Booker Prize in 1982 which was later adapted in Steven Spielberg's Academy Award-winning film of the same name.

Junior Blue Light Disco - Kingaroy

The fifth bi-monthly Junior Blue Light Disco for 2013 will be held at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy from 6:00pm to 8:30pm this evening. Entry to the Junior Disco is restricted to young people aged 14 and below who can produce their student ID, and in addition to a fun night out tonight's disco will also have some great prizes to be won as well (courtesy of sponsors Blooms The Chemist and the Kingaroy RSL. Greet, Meet & Eat - Yarraman

A "Greet, Meet & Eat" social function will be held at St Phillips Anglican Church Hall in Millar Street, Yarraman from 10:00am until around 1:00pm today. The group was formed in May 2012 to provide a safe place where locals from Yaraman, Blackbutt and Cooyar could get together, enjoy each other's company and meet others in a low-cost way, and it's met on the third Friday of each month ever since (except for December and January). Today's meeting will kick off at 10:00am with a cuppa and will be followed by a three-course lunch at 12:00 noon. Blue Light Disco - Murgon

A Murgon Blue Light Disco for primary school age children will be held at the Diggers Room in the Murgon Services Club in Lamb Street, Murgon between 6:30pm and 8:30pm this evening. The $4 admission fee includes a hot dog dinner and there'll be some great prizes to be won as well. Blue Light discos are drug, alcohol and tobacco free and are fully supervised by local police, Apexians, Lions and other volunteers. The Kingaroy Golf Club on the Bunya Highway at Kingaroy will holding their regular Friday 9-ers 9 hole social golfing sessions for men and women from 8:00am until dusk today. The Waterhole Rocks - Nanango

The first day of the three-day Waterhole Rocks rock 'n' roll campout weekend will roar into life at the Nanango Showgrounds at 1:00pm this afternoon and continue on until late tonight. This new festival is devoted to all things associated with 1950s and 1960s rock 'n' roll. This includes hot rods, custom cars, vintage caravans, driving games and dance lessons, all backed up by rock 'n' roll acts. At 7:00pm tonight the Festival will get underway with rock & roll band Catfish. A bar and canteen will be operating too and admission today is $15, or you can buy a full weekend pass for $25. Camping will also be available at the Showgrounds for $25 per person and then $8.50 per person per night if you want to bunk down on site. The Murgon Bowls Club in Macalister Street, Murgon will be holding Friday Night Social Bowls from 6:00pm onwards this evening (bar opens at 4:00m; games start at 6:30pm). The $15 green fee includes all games and a great BBQ dinner, and it's open to bowlers and non-bowlers alike - just wear soft-soled shoes or go barefoot. South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy

The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 11:00am to 1:00pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $35 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items).
