2013 Heritage Nanango Mardi Gras
The annual Heritage Nanango Mardi Gras will be held in Nanango's CBD from 10:30am this morning when the popular King & Queen Of The Mountain Foot Races get underway from the corner of Fitzroy and Drayton streets. These races will be followed by the perenially popular Mardi Gras Street Parade - the biggest in the South Burnett - which will start in front of the Nanango Cultural Centre in George Street at 12:30pm, wend its way up Drayton Street to the corner of Gipps Street, and then return to George Street before the floats continue on to Pioneer Park, where the main part of the Festival will be held for the rest of the day. Pioneer Park itself will be full of market and food stalls, and at 3:00pm local bands and performers will take to the stage for an afrternoon and evening of non-stop entertainment that will be broken by the traditional Giant Fireworks Display at 8:00pm. This in turn will be followed by The Mr Q Experience with guest vocalists Leila May, Luke Green and Stella Cisneros with guest artists Keith Edwards, Cary Elmer and Annastasia (fire-twirling display), which will continue until late into the night. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
2013 Relay For Life - Kingaroy
The 2013 Relay For Life will be held this weekend at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy. This is the Cancer Council's major annual fund-raising event in the South Burnett. Gates will open at 2:00pm and the opening ceremony will be held at 3:00pm with guest speakers, followed by the Survivors and Carers Walk. The relay will continue all night with live music and entertainment. Spectators and supporters are very welcome!
Dance - Tablelands Hall
A dance (and dance lessons, if you need them) will be held at Tablelands Hall from 6:30pm until late tonight (supper is served at 6:30pm; dancing will follow afterwards). The dance will feature old time and new vogue numbers and admission includes the supper. Entry is $10 for adults, $5 for high school students and $2.50 for anyone else. Everyone is welcome! Oktoberfest - Wondai
The Cecil Hotel in Mackenzie Street, Wondai will be holding a small Oktoberfest from 4:00pm until late today to celebrate Spring in true Bavarian style. There'll be German foods, German beer and some righteous German fun on offer, along with a band that will play throiugh until 7:00pm. Admission is free and everyone is welcome! More details? Nanango Art Society Art Fest
The Nanango Art Society are holding their first Art Fest daily through until Sunday, October 13. The Art Fest features 3 major art competitions (a mural, a sculpture and an art competition) and there'll also be daily workshop, art and sculpture activities and demonstrations. Start Of 2013-14 Cricket Season

Kumbia Rodeo
The first day of the annual Kumbia Rodeo will be held at the Kumbia Sportsgrounds off Bell Street, Kumbia from 4:00pm until around 8:00pm today. Apart from non-stop rodeo action the event will feature a bar and BBQ; food and children's entertainment, and there'll be overnight camping available in the grounds as well. South Burnett Interclub Photography Exhibition - Wondai
Entries in the annual Cliff Krebbs Memorial South Burnett Interclub Photography Competition - a showcase of the best photography shot around the region over the last year by members of the South Burnett's photography clubs - will go on public display today at the Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai. Competition judging will take place at 11:00am, followed by a lunch at 12:30pm and then a judges talk followed by presentations at 1:30pm. Admission is $5 per person (to cover tea, coffee and lunch) and everyone is welcome!
Barambah Environmental Education Centre Open Day - Manumbar
The Barambah Environmental Education Centre north-east of Manumbar will be holding an Open Day from 10:00am to 4:00pm today in conjunction with sponsors Ergon Energy. The Open Day will feature tours of the newly-renovated centre; energy-saving initiatives and displays; native plant nursery tours and plant sales; guided rainforest walks; an edible plants workshop; a catapult challenge; and fun activities for all ages. Monster Auction - Murgon
The Murgon Rotary Club will be holding a Monster Auction of “leftovers” from the old Castra Retirement Home at 7 Boat Mountain Road in Murgon, beginning at 10:00am this morning. The auction will kick off a fundraising drive to raise funds to purchase a new bus for the centre. Members of the community can also bring goods for an open auction (cars, trucks, machinery etc – commission only will be deducted) or donate goods to the auction. More details? Mega Bowls Evening - Proston
The Proston State School P&C will be holding a Mega Bowls Evening at the Proston Bowls Club in Murphy Way, Proston from 5:00pm until late tonight as a fundraiser. This is a free entry event designed for bowlers and non-bowlers alike, and play will take place in teams of 4.
