Wondai Country Markets
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. Today's markets will feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Gallery's new "Studio" building just a short stroll across the park. The Wondai Kindergarten's BBQs will also be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts to early bargain hunters. Kingaroy Kindergarten Community Fete - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Kindergarten will be holding a Community Fete Day from 10:00am to 4:00pm today at the Kindy's new premises at 5 North Street and on the vacant land across the road to celebrate the opening of their brand new building. Amongst many other things there'll be market stalls, laser skirmish, pony rides, a jumping castle, face painting, free activities and live entertainment - and it should be a really great family day out. St John's Lutheran School Black & White Trivia Night - Kingaroy
St John's Lutheran School at 84-92 Ivy Street in Kingaroy will be holding a Black & White Trivia Night at the school from 6:30pm onwards this evening as a fundraiser for the P&F Association (games start at 7:00pm sharp). Play will be in teams of 8 for $10 per person and in addition to a great night of fun there'll also be raffles, Lucky Door prizes and other games. The first day of the annual, weekend-long South Burnett Tennis Tournament will be held at the Kingaroy Tennis Courts today. More details will be published as they become available.
Yhurri Gurri Weekend - Cherbourg
The first day of the two-day Yhurri Gurri Weekend will be held at Cherbourg and Murgon today. "Yhurri Gurri" is the new name for Cherbourg's annual "Golden Oldies" celebrations for residents and visirors aged 50 and above. Today's activities will kick off at the Cherbourg Welfare Hall at 11:00am with an all-day concert (which will run until 6:00pm) featuring special guest artists country music star Roger Knox, Lance “You’ll Never Find Another Cherbourg Boy Like Me” O’Chin, and Cherbourg’s own Muddy Flats Band. There’ll also be prizes for the best design shirt promoting your tribal group, lucky door prizes and photo shoots. Then tonight, there'll be a dinner and karaoke competition – sponsored by the Bigambul Traditional Owner Group – at Murgon RSL from 6:30pm to 11:30pm (with a prize for the deadliest singer!). This wil be followed tomorrow morning by a recovey breakfast which will be available on the deck of Cherbourg's Ration Shed Museum from 7:00am to 10:00am. Everyone is welcome!
Summer Season Twilight Jumping - Nanango
The Nanango Hack and Pony Club will be starting their monthly Summer Season Twilight Jumping program this afternoon at the Nanango Pony Club grounds, which are located inside the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street. The Twilight Jumping season is open to all keen riders, whether they're current NPC members or not. Nominations will be taken between 3:00pm and 4:00pm (all classes are $6), and then the action will get underway in the rodeo arena and continue under lights once darkness falls. Drinks and snacks will be available on site from 4:00pm and there'll be a BBQ dinner available from 6:00pm. 3rd Annual Wide Bay Wurst Off - Wondai
Here's something different! The Karate Union of Australia will be presenting the 3rd annual World Wide Bay Wurst Off at the Wondai Town Hall in Mackenzie Street, Wondai from 6:30pm until late this evening. As the name suggests, this will be an smart casual dress celebration of the joys of wurst, and the $20 admission includes canapes, wurst, light entertainment and access to a licensed bar. Guests can also get to try some South Burnett wursts and vote on a People's Choice winner - and there'll be several divisions judged on the evening by some guest judges too. Tickets are available at the door.
Nanango Scouts Cent Auction
The Nanango Souts will be holding their annual Cent Auction - a major fund-raiser for the troop - at the Nanango Cultural Centre on the corner of Drayton and George Streets in Nanango today. Doors will open at 11:00am for a 1:00pm start, and the action is expected to continue until around 4:00pm (it's a v-e-r-y b-i-g cent auction). The Scouts will also be running a raffle and a sausage sizzle and drinks will be available for purchase. Blackbutt Mug - Blackbutt
The Blackbutt-Benarkin Community Council will be hosting the inaugural "Blackbutt Mug" (a warm-up for Melbourne Cup Day) at the Blackbutt Memorial Hall in Coulson Street, Blackbutt from 7:00pm to around 11:00pm this evening as a fundraiser for local charities. There'll be seven "races" (including a Calcutta on the last race); a Fashions Of The Field competition; a raffle; and a licensed bar and catering. Admission is free and everyone is welcome! Psychic Fair - Nanango
Crikey! Here's something we didn't foresee! The South Burnett Spiritualist Church will be holding a Psychic Fair at the QCWA Hall in Fitzroy Street, Nanango from 9:00am to 3:00pm today. Psychic readers will be attending from Brisbane, Toowoomba and Nanango and you can get a reading for $20 or a bit of healing for a gold coin donation. Wondai State School Funky Festival
The Wondai State School at 32 Kent Street in Wondai will be holding a Funky Festival in their grounds from 2:00pm to 6:00pm this afternoon as a fundraiser for the school's P&C. There'll be a huge range of great rides on offer and you can go on any of them for $5, or buy an unlimited ticket for $30 and ride all afternoon. The Hubbub Musical Playground will also be on site, and there'll be raffles; a fashion parade; stalls; demonstrations; and an all-day BBQ in operation if you get peckish. Gala Extravaganza Day - Blackbutt
Lead Childcare at 41 Sutton Street in Blackbutt will be holding a "Gala Extravaganza Day" in their grounds from 10:00am to 2:00pm today. It will feature a cake stall, a plant stall and a sausage sizzle along with zstands from Lorraine Lea linen, crockery from Doheny Design, Melting Scentdations, jewekllery from Tracey's Treasures, clothes from Carissa's Clothing and Designs, and more. Wide Bay Potters Association Annual Convention - Kingaroy
The Wide Bay Potters Association will be holding their 38th annual convention at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy today and tomorrow. The event will feature two days of comprehensive tutorials, demonstrations and lectures by leading Australian potters, and you can read more about it on our website. Crow-E-Oke Finals - Kingaroy
CROW-FM 90.7 will be holding the finals of their 2013 Crow-E-Oke karaoke competition at Harvey Norman in Roghers Drive, Kingaroy at 10:00am this morning. Four contestants will vie for the top prize (a $500 Phillips Party Dock) and there'll be a live outside broadcast from 9:00am to 12:00 noon as well.
