South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Wondai Caulfield Cup Race Meeting
The South Burnett Race Club will be holding their annual Wondai Caulfield Cup Race Meeting at the Wondai race track from around 12:00 noon today (the first race leaves the barriers at 1:30pm). Today's meeting will be a particularly special one because it also marks the club's 100th Caulfield Cup race meeting - quite a milestone! The theme of today's meeting is "Diamonds & Pearls With A Twist Of Vintage" and guests are encouraged to dress to this theme to be in the running for prizes. As usual, the meeting will feature an on-course TAB; live telecasts of Brisbane and interstate races; a vigorous betting ring; a great BBQ and bar and a Punters Podium. There'll also be Lucky Race Book prizes of free betting vouchers; prizes for the best-dressed ladies and gents in a Fashions Of The Field competition; and fun at the Lady Luck Cocktail Bar. Today's meeting will feature 5 races and buses will be leaving the Fitzroy Hotel in Nanango at 12:00 noon and the Kingaroy Hotel at 12:30pm for visitors from the south; Proston's Golden Spurs Hotel at 11:30am and the Hivesville Hotel at 11:45am for western visitors; and the Murgon Newsagency at 12:30pm for northern visitors (and you should phone (0402) 715-242 to gurantee your seat). Lucas Oils Kingaroy Speedway
The South Burnett Speedway Club will be roaring into life at 4:00pm this afternoon with another great speedway meeting featuring V8 Super Sedans (competing in the Queensland Series), modified sedans, dirt modifieds and production sedans. There'll also be a fireworks display after dark, and a canteen will be operating too. Tickets to today's racing are $25 for adults, $15 for students or $65 for families of four (under-12s are free) and gates will open at 1:00pm. You can find out more on the Speedway's website.
South Burnett Health & Lifestyle Expo - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Regional Council, Healthy Communities and RHealth will be jointly hosting a free South Burnett Health & Lifestyle Expo at the Kingaroy Town Hall and Forecourt in Glendon Street, Kingaroy from 9:00am to 3:00pm today. The Expo will be packed with demonstrations and workshops by people such as chef Jason Ford (who'll be demonstrating healthy fast food cooking at 11:00am); Bushland Therapies; Darling Downs South West Qld Medicare Local; Growing The Burnett; Karmic Seeds Hypnosis; the Proston Golf Club and Snap Fitness. There'll also be over 20 health, nutrition, fitness, outdoor lifestyle, sporting and medical service providers on hand during the Expo, and lucky door prizes to be won as well.
Dusty Day Out - Moffatdale
Dusty Hill Estate at 80 Waterview Drive in Moffatdale will be holding their third annual Dusty Day Out in their grounds today. This year's performers include the legendary blues artists Doc Span and Band; blues, country and rock maestros Pop Standen, Phil Emmanuel & Friends; the folk and roots Mick Travers Trio; and covers band Bad Habits. Food and drink will be available from Dusty Hill's licensed tavern all day and night (strictly no BYO allowed), and free overnight camping is available in the grounds as well. There'll also be a courtesy bus running to local accommodation venues if you'd prefer a roof over your head. High Tea Garden Party - Coolabunia
The Kingaroy Quota Club will be holding a High Tea Garden Party at the Peterson family's property "Hopevale" off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Kingaroy between 1:30pm and 4:30pm this afternoon. Today's get-together is a fundraiser for the RACQ Careflight Rescue Helicopter, which provides invaluable services to the South Burnett. Dress for the High Tea is Spring semi-casual wear and there'll be a prize for the best Spring hat. Tickets are $25 per person (which includes a great High Tea and convivial company) and everyone is welcome - but to assist with catering an RSVP would be greatly appreciated. Golf For Cancer Day - Goomeri
The Goomeri Golf Club on Goomeribong Road will be holding a "Golf For Cancer" open single stableford today, with a shotgun start at 11:00am. Up to $2000 inm prizes will be up for grabs and there'll be lots of novelties, pin shots, a BBQ and a Cent Auction after the game. Kingaroy Rotary Club Jewellery Auction
The Kingaroy Rotary Club will be holding their 3rd annual Jewellery Auction at the Kingaroy Town Common Hall in Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy from 6:00pm this evening as a fundraiser for the South Burnett Community Hospital. Around 100 pieces of new and pre-loved jewellery will go under the hammer at tonight's auction. Most have no reserve price and many will sell for less than 30% of valuation - so it's a great opportunity for jewellery lovers to help a good cause and snag a terrific bargain at the same time. Viewing begins at 6:00pm and the auction will start at 7:00pm. Tickets are $10 per head (which includes finger foods at interval), and there'll be a licensed bar running as well. You can obtain tickets from any Kingaroy Rotary member or the Pioneer Motel in Kingaroy Street, but they'll also be available at the door. Everyone is welcome!
The Waterhole Rocks - Nanango
The second (and main) day of the three-day Waterhole Rocks rock 'n' roll campout weekend will get underway at the Nanango Showgrounds at 12:30pm this afternoon with entertainment from Debbie Robertson and Jeff Hancox (they'll also perform a second set at 6:30pm) and then Route 66 from 8:00pm until late. During the day there'll also be grass driving and games on the main oval, and rock & roll dance lessons available in the main pavilion. This new festival is devoted to all things associated with 1950s and 1960s rock 'n' roll. This includes hot rods, custom cars and vintage caravans. A bar and canteen will be operating all day and night too and admission today is $15, or you can buy a full weekend pass for $25. Camping will also be available at the Showgrounds for $25 per person and then $8.50 per person per night if you want to bunk down on site. Tranquillity & Soul Open Day - Wondai
Tranquillity & Soul at 19 Scott Street in Wondai (beside the roundabout) will be celebrating their second birthday with an Open Day today. Start Of Softball Season
The South Burnett's 2013-14 softball season will get underway at the Burnett Softball Grounds at 18 Burnett Street, Nanango today. The game is open to girls, buys, men and women aged 5 years and upwards; all equipment is supplied; and play occurs on Saturdays.
