2024 Wondai Country Running Festival

The first day of the weekend-long, family friendly Wondai Country Running Festival will be held in and around Wondai's CBD and along the South Burnett Rail Trail today. The festival will kick off early at 7:00am and will incorporate a bumper Wondai markets (see entry below), several Fun Runs/Walks, and two McEuen Forest Trail Runs this afternoon. There'll also be a full day of live music in Coronation Park, capped off by a licensed Wondai Country Running Festival Dinner at Wondai Town Hall in Mackenzie Street that will get underway around 5:45pm tonight. Tomorrow the Festival will conclude with a 10km Rail Trail run, a half marathon and a gruelling full 42km marathon along the South Burnett Rail Trail. More than 600 runners have already registered to take part in this year's Country Running Festival and you can get the complete program on our website.
Yarraman Show & Shine
The Yarraman Progress Association will be hosting the town's annual Show & Shine at the Yarraman Horse Sports grounds on the New England Highway from 9:00am to 7:00pm today. This huge - and hugely popular - show features a large range of cars, motorcycles and trucks in pristine condition, as well as vintage tractors, and this year will also be complemented by a drone display. There'll also be amusement rides for children, buskers, market stalls, food vans, a live band and lots more to enjoy (including a fireworks display after dark). Entry into the Show & Shine competition is just $10 per vehicle and $2 for spectators. Camping is also available in the grounds from Friday to Sunday for $10 per site, and can be booked by phoning Rob on 0498-540-340 or Leanne on 0422-137-089.
Kingaroy Scouts Centenary
The Kingaroy Scouts will be celebrating their Centenary from 9:00am to 2:00pm today with a big range of activities at their den in James Street, Kingaroy. Items on the schedule include the official opening of the Bunya District Scout Fellowship Museum; the presentation of Peek Awards; the official opening of the den's new commercial kitchen; plus lots of displays and fun activities. A canteen will also be running and there's no admission. Then tonight, attention will shift to the Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street where a special Centenary Dinner will be held from 5:30pm to around 10:30pm. The evening's program will feature a series of presentations and speeches, offering insight into the rich history and evolution of the first Kingaroy Scout Group and it's an adult-oriented affair for over-18s. Wondai Country Markets
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon this morning. The markets feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans. The BBQs will also be firing up from around 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts for early bargain hunters. Goodger Farmers Market
Kingaroy Country Meats at 207 Stuart Valley Drive in Goodger will be running a Farmers Market featuring foods, arts and crafts from 8:00am to 1:00pm this morning. This market runs on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month. More details? Phone Tom on 0418-744-331
Nanango Mini Market
The Nanango Mini Market, which runs on the 4th Saturday of each month (except January) outside the Churchyard Opp Shop at the corner of Drayton and Burnett Streets in Nanango, will be running from 7:00am to around noon this morning. Apart from offering great bargains at great prices - ranging from plants to craft work, DVDs, bric-a-brac, glassware, books, jewellery, photographic work and mosaic art - the markets also have a $3 sausage sizzle, $1.00 soft drinks ($2 for a coke) and gold coin donation tea and coffee if you get peckish. Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Community Resilience And Emergency Services Expo - Blackbutt
The South Burnett Regional Council will be running a free Community Resilience And Emergency Services Expo at the Taromeo Rural Fire Brigade's shed in Hart Street, Blackbutt from 10:00am to 2:00pm today. The Expo will offer QFES demonstrations, a free BBQ, drinks and evacuation kits to help residents prepare for emergencies. Everyone is welcome!
Saturday Morning Tennis - Blackbutt

Butterfly Print & Terrarium Workshops - Kingaroy
As part of this year's Queensland Winter Craft Festival, the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery will be running a Butterfly Print Workshop for children from 11:00am to 12:00 noon this morning, followed by a Terrarium Workshop (for adults) from 1:00pm to 3:00pm this afternoon. Both workshops will be run by artist Romaine Undery and all materials will be supplied for both courses. The Butterfly Print course fee is $35 and the terrarium course fee is $70. More details? World Bicycle Day - Kingaroy
South Burnett Junior Landcare will be holding its monthly meeting at the Kingaroy Library in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 10:00am this morning, and in honour of World Bicycle Day this month's get-together will focus on learning how to change and pump up a bicycle tyre (BYO bike if you want!). This morning will also award a worm farm to the winner of the group's colouring-in competition, and you can get the pattern on the group's Facebook page. Ranch Sorting & Station Cut Outs - Proston
A Ranch Sorting & Station Cut Out weekend will be held at the Proston Showgrounds on the Proston-Boondooma Road west of town today and tomorrow. Today's action will focus on Novice Ranch Sorting and Open Ranch Sorting, and then Junior, Novice and Open Station Cut Outs. Fees to take part are $15 per person and free powered campsites with water are available if you want to stay overnight. A canteen will also be running from Friday night through to Sunday lunch. Saturday Rugby League - Wondai
Rugby bLeague fans should head to the Wondai Sportsgrounds off the Bunya Highway north of Wondai's CBD this week. The games will begin at 10:30am with an U15s match between the South Burnett and Western Suburbs Panthers, followed at 11:45am with ban U16s match between the same two sides. At 12:00 noon, the Tom Kemp Clubhouse will be opening for a Great Gatsby party that will run until 3:30pm (tickets are $35 per head) while out on the field, the first A-grade match of the day will begin at 1:00pm when the Wolves face Cherbourg's Hornets. At <2:45pm, the second A-grade game will be played between Kingaroy's Red Ants and Murgon's Mustangs. The club's canteen will open at 10:00am and the bar at 1:00pm and spectators and supporters are very welcome.
Animal Adoption Day - Wondai
Karma's Place Rescue will be holding their 4th Saturday of the month Animal Adoption Day from 9:00am to 12:00 noon this morning at 36 Scott Street in Wondai. Puppies, adult dogs and young adult cats will all be available for adoption (a fee applies). Note: All animals will be flea and worm treated, vaccinated, desexed and microchipped before rehoming.
Alcoholics Anonymous - Blackbutt
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other to help solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership. AA isn't allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organisation or institution. AA meets in Blackbutt in the small hall next to the church at the corner of Gladys and James streets from 1:30pm to 2:30pm every Saturday, with tea and coffee provided.
