The Waterhole Rocks - Nanango
- The second day of the three-day Waterhole Rocks rock 'n' roll campout weekend will roar into life at the Nanango Showgrounds at 7:00am this morning and continue on until late tonight. The new festival is devoted to all things associated with 1950s and 1960s rock 'n' roll. This includes hot rods, custom cars, vintage caravans, driving games and dance lessons, all backed up by a slew of local and imported rock 'n' roll acts. Today these will include singer-composer Bobby Ricks, the Atomic Cruisers, South Burnett Elvis impersonator Jeff Hancox and singer Debbie Robinson, and the incredible Catfish & The D-Jays (which includes drummer Johnny Purser from Johnny O'Keefe's original backing band). A bar and canteen will be operating throughout, and tickets to today's sock hop are $15. Camping will also be available at the Showgrounds for $25 per person and then $8.50 per person per night if you want to camp on site. Wondai Caulfield Cup Race Meeting
- The South Burnett Race Club will be holding their annual Wondai Caulfield Cup Race Meeting at the Wondai race track from around 12:00 noon today (the first race leaves the barriers at 1:30pm). The theme of today's meeting is "Wondai Cup At The Royal Wondai Race Course" and guests are encouraged to dress to this theme to be in the running for prizes. As usual, the meeting will feature an on-course TAB; live telecasts of Brisbane and interstate races; a vigorous betting ring; a great BBQ and bar and a Punters Podium. There'll also be Lucky Race Book prizes of free betting vouchers; prizes for the best-dressed ladies and gents in a Fashions Of The Field competition; and fun at the Lady Luck Cocktail Bar. Today's meeting will feature 5 races and buses will be leaving the Fitzroy Hotel in Nanango at 12:00 noon and the Kingaroy Hotel at 12:30pm for visitors from the south; Proston's Golden Spurs Hotel at 11:30am and the Hivesville Hotel at 11:45am for western visitors; and the Murgon Newsagency at 12:30pm for northern visitors. Kingaroy Red Ants 20-Year Reunion
- Today the Kingaroy Red Ants are celebrating 20 years (very nearly to the day) of the last time the Ant Army gathered together to relive former glories, rekindle friendships from yesteryear, tell tall stories and inflame passions in the way that only rugby league can. And they'll be doing it with a giant 20 Year Reunion Celebration in the heartland of Kingaroy rugby league, the T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street. Gates will open at approximately 4:00pm and the main speeches and a stand-up buffet will get underway at 6:00pm, followed by a great night of socialising and dancing (but turn up early so you can to relive the history that's been gathered in the new clubhouse). This fun event is for everyone that has ever been involved in Junior and/or Senior rugby league in Kingaroy. And since it only happens every 20 years, you'll be in for a very loooooong wait if you miss it. Tickets are $50 per head and you won't get in without one - but you can get them by emailing the club or phoning Mick on (0488) 625-255 or Wendy on (07) 4162-3533. Remember: memories may have faded and frames may have altered (mainly larger) but your skills are better!
Friendship Dance - Kingaroy
- The monthly Friendship Dance will be held at the Kingaroy Senior Citizens Centre in Avoca Street, Kingaroy (opposite Super IGA) at 7:30pm this evening, with music supplied by a local band. Kingaroy Rotary Jewellery Auction - Kingaroy
- The Kingaroy Rotary Club will be holding their 2nd annual Jewellery Auction at the Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street from 6:00pm to 9:00pm this evening as a fundraiser for bathroom renovations at the South Burnett Private Hospital. Around 100 pieces of new and pre-loved jewellery will go under the hammer at tonight's auction. Most have no reserve price and many will sell for less than 30% of valuation - so it's a great opportunity for jewellery lovers to help a good cause and snag a terrific bargain at the same time. Viewing begins at 6:00pm and the auction will start at 7:00pm. Tickets are $10 per head (which includes a glass of champagne on arrival and finger foods at interval) and a bar will be running as well. South Burnett Community Orchestra Concert - Kumbia
- The South Burnett Community Orchestra Concert will be performing a BBQ dinner concert at the Kumbia Hall in Bell Street, Kumbia at 5:30pm this evening. Saturday Cricket - Kingaroy, Nanango, Kumbia and Wondai
- After a few weeks of warm-up T20 matches, the South Burnett's 2012-13 cricket season will officially get underway today with all-day A-grade matches in Kingaroy and Nanango; and B-grade matches in Kumbia, Kingaroy and Wondai. In A-grade, the Wooroolin Warriors will play Kingaroy RSL at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy while the Murgon Crusaders will play Nanango at the Nanango Sportsground in Burnett Street, Nanango. And in B-grade, Kumbia will play the Murgon Colts at the Kumbia Sportsground off the Bunya Highway, Kumbia; Kingaroy RSL will play Murgon Magic at Taabinga State School in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy; the Murgon Diggers will play Wondai at the Wondai Sportsground off the Bunya Highway, Wondai; and the Wooroolin Warriors will play Barambah at Kingaroy State School in Alford Street, Kingaroy. Spectators and supporters are very welcome!
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy

What's On At The Wineries This Weekend
- The South Burnett's wineries and cellar doors will all be open this weekend if you want to relax in their cafes and/or taste their wines. The South Burnett is now the largest wine region in Queensland and (excluding the Granite Belt) larger than all the State's other wine regions put together. Karaoke Night - Wondai
- The South Burnett Lively 50s & 60s Singles Social Group will be holding a Karaoke Night at the Warana Hotel at 42 Mackenzie Street, Wondai from 7:30pm until late this evening. Kingaroy Writers Association Open Day
- The Kingaroy Writers Association will be holding an Open Day at the Uniting Church Hall at the corner of Youngman and Alford Streets in Kingaroy from 1:00pm to around 3:30pm this afternoon. The event will feature the launch of "Tapestry Of Tales", a new book of short stories by local writers, and many of the authors will be on hand to discuss their work. - The evergreen Stolzenberg Brothers will be performing at the Wondai Diggers Club in Mackenzie Street, Wondai from 6:30pm until late tonight. Variety Fun Dance - Blackbutt
- A Variety Fun Dance will be held at the Blackbutt Memorial Hall in Coulson Street, Blackbutt from 2:00pm this afternoon through to 9:00pm this evening. The dance will feature Old Time, Rock & Roll and Line Dancing, along with games to play (and dancing lessons too, if you need them). Music will be supplied by the Taromeo Band and others - and at 7:00pm the ladies from Maya Bellydance will ber putting on a dancing show of their own (!!!). Admission is by gold coin donation and there'll also be a multi-draw raffle, lucky door prize, and free tea & coffee (BYO drinks). A plate to share for supper great would be greatly appreciated too.
