South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Wondai Races
The South Burnett Race Club will be holding their annual Wondai Winter Race Day meeting at the Wondai race track in Cadell Street, Wondai from around 12:00 noon today (the first race leaves the barriers at 1:40pm). The theme of today's meeting is "Bling, Buttons and Bows" and guests are encouraged to dress to this theme to be in the running for prizes. As usual, the meeting will feature an on-course TAB; live telecasts of Brisbane and interstate races (along with interstate betting fluctuations); a vigorous undercover betting ring; a great BBQ and bar and a Punters Podium. There'll also be Lucky Race Book prizes of free betting vouchers; prizes for the best-dressed ladies and gents in a Fashions Of The Field competition; the always popular Lady Luck Cocktail Bar; and amusements for children. Buses will be leaving the Fitzroy Hotel in Nanango at noon, the Kingaroy Hotel-Motel at 12:30pm, Proston’s Golden Spurs Hotel at 11:30am, the Hivesville Hotel at 11:45am and the Murgon Newsagency at 12:30pm (phone 0427-193-552 to guarantee a seat). Robert Early - Nanango
Entertainer Robert Early will be performing at the Nanango RSL in Henry Street from 7:30pm until late tonight. Admission is free. More details fom the RSL on (07) 4163-1375.
Variety Concert - Nanango
The Wesleyan Methodist Church of Nanango will be holding a Variety Concert at the Nanango State High School Hall in Elk Street, Nanango at 4:00pm this afternoon. The concert will feature country & western music, a flautist, Elvis, a barber shop quartert (minus 1), the Blackbutt Singers, a male choir, a pianist, Zumba dancers, line dancers and community singing. There'll also be free tea and coffee available and a lucky door prize, and 100% of the proceeds will go towards sending a container of medical equipment to Papua-New Guinea. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7.50 for pensioners or high school students, $5 for primary students (pre-schoolers are free) or $30 per family. They'll be available at the door. More details? South Burnett Saints Heritage Day - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Saints will be hosting a Heritage Day at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy today. The event is open to past and present South Burnett Australian Rules players (ie Dogs, Jets and Saints), committee members, volunteers and supporters, who are all invited to join in a day of “sharing on-the-field and off-the-field memories”. The event will be held in conjunction with a home game against Warwick (U8s, U10s, U12s, U14s and seniors). There'll also be food (ie after-game nibbles), a heritage corner, a photo book, an auction of special jumpers and live music by popular South Burnett band Stunt Pig. More details? Karaoke Night - Wondai
The South Burnett Lively 50s & 60s Singles Social Group will be attending a Karaoke Night at the Warana Hotel at 42 Mackenzie Street, Wondai from 7:30pm until late this evening. Saturday Afternoon Rugby Union - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Thrashers rugby union team will be playing their seventh home game of the season at St Mary's Oval in John Street, Kingaroy (behind Kingaroy Hospital) at 1:30pm this afternoon. The Thrashers will be playing the Dalby Wheatmen B Grade in Round 15 of the 2013 Downs Rugby competition. And after last week's win against the highly fancied Toowoomba Bears, it seems our boys are on a roll. Spectators and supporters are very welcome! More details? Comedy Night - Maidenwell
Need a good laugh? The Maidenwell Hotel will be holding a big Comedy Night from 7:00pm until late this evening with five different comedians putting on a side-splitting 2.5 hour show. Saturday Soccer - Nanango and Kingaroy
The 13th round of the 2013 Evolution Solar South Burnett Football League will be held in Nanango and Kingaroy today - and with just five matches to play before this year's Grand Finals, the pressure is really starting to ramp up on all the South Burnett's teams. In Nanango, the seemingly indomitable home team will play Barambah at the Nanango Sportsgrounds, with 2nd Division kicking off at 12:30pm; the Women's Division at 2:00pm and 1st Division at 3:15pm. And in Kingaroy, Gunners will play arch-rivals Wests at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street, with 2nd Division toeing the line at 2:00pm; the Women's Division hitting the park at 3:15pm and 1st Division putting the boot in at 5:00pm. Spectators and supporters are very welcome, and a canteen and BBQ will be operating at both venues too. Junior soccer will be played at the Kingaroy soccer fields in Oliver Bond Street in the morning.
Friendship Markets - Kingaroy
The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at the Senior Citizens Centre in Avoca Street, Kingaroy from 6:30am to around 12:00pm today. Saturday Rugby League - Cherbourg
The 13th round of the 2013 South Burnett Premier League competition will be held at Jac,k O'Chin Oval in Cherbourg today - and it'll be an A-Grade Double Header. In the first match of the day, the Nanango Stags (who are currently sitting at the bottom of the regional league ladder) will take on the second place-holders Wondai Wolves at 1:00pm; and in the second match, comptition leaders the Cherbourg Hornets will play the third placed Blackbutt-Yarraman Timbertowners at 3:00pm. In recent weeks some of these teams have exhibited noticeable form reversals, so the winners of each match aren't necessarily the foregone conclusion they might appear. Spectators and supporters are very welcome!
Mini Mods Carnival - Wondai
The South Burnett's annual Mini Mods rugby league carnival will be held over three ovals at the Wondai Sportsgrounds on the Bunya Highway in Wondau today. This carnival always attracts hundreds of junior players from all over the Wide-Bay Burnett, and all games will start at 9:00am and continue through until the afternoon. The U7s, U8s and U10s are all 15-minute games and will wrap up around 2:00pm, while the U12s are 19-minute games and will wrap up around 4:30pm. The U7s and U8s will play on Oval 3; the U10s on Oval 2; and the U12s on Oval 1. Spectators and supporters are very welcome!
