South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Nanango Country Lifestyle Expo
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their first-ever Nanango Country Lifestyle Expo at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 7:00am to 5:00pm today and tomorrow. The Expo will include - amongst many other things - the Dexter Cattle Show, the Queensland Alpaca Colourbration Show and Working Cattle Dog Trials. The Expo is free to the public and a fun two days for the whole family, and the Show Society's canteen will be operating on both days. Everyone is welcome! More details? Proston SES Garage Sale
Proston's SES will be holding a Giant Garage Sale in Blake Street, Proston - right in the middle of town - from 8:00am to 2:00pm today as a fundraiser. There'll be all sorts of things for sale from furniture to bric-a-brac and everything in between, as well as a great gold coin donation sausage sizzle if you want to snack while you browse for a bargain. Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's monthly Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 1:00pm today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls and an under-cover play area for children. Saturday Afternoon Rugby Union - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Thrashers rugby union team will be playing their sixth home game of the season at St Mary's Oval in John Street, Kingaroy (behind Kingaroy Hospital) at 1:30pm this afternoon. The Thrashers will be playing Toowoomba Bears B Grade in Round 14 of the 2013 Downs Rugby competition, and spectators and supporters are very welcome! More details? Saturday Soccer - Nanango and Kingaroy
The 12th round of the 2013 Evolution Solar South Burnett Football League will be held in Nanango and Kingaroy today - and with a number of key players currently sidelined from several teams due to injuries, there could be some upsets on the cards. In Nanango, the indomitable home team will play Wests at the Nanango Sportsgrounds, with 2nd Division kicking off at 12:30pm; the Women's Division at 2:00pm and 1st Division at 3:15pm. And in Kingaroy, Gunners will play Barambah at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street today, with 2nd Division toeing the line at 2:00pm; the Women's Division on the park at 3:15pm and 1st Division lining up ar 5:00pm. Spectators and supporters are very welcome, and a canteen and BBQ will be operating at both venues too.
Moondogs Gypsy Blues Band - Yarraman

Growing The Burnett Working Bee - Memerambi
Interested in small acreage or backyard farming? Want to meet others who share the same interests? Growing The Burnett will be holding a Working Bee at their Red Earth Meadows farm on the Bunya Highway at Memerambi from 8:00am onwards today to help construct a cold room, a grow tunnel, a glass house and some raised garden beds. The not-for-profit group is developing small acreage and backyard farming systems for the region and their demonstration farm already has 20,000 vegetable seedlings under cultivation. Today's projects will help expand the farm's operations, and anyone who can donate a few hours work is very welcome to come along, meet like-minded people and have some fun at the same time. Saturday Rugby League - Wondai
The 12th round of the 2013 South Burnett Premier League competition will be held at the Wondai Spportsgrounds in Wondai today - and it'll be an A-Grade Double Header. In the first match, the Nanango Stags will take on the Cherbourg Hornets at 1:15pm; and then the Wondai Wolves will take on the Blackbutt-Yarraman Timbertowners at 3:00pm. Fighting For Farmers Concert - Blackbutt
The Blackbutt-Benarkin Lions and the Blackbutt Singers will be holding a Fighting For Farmers Concert at the Blackbutt Community Hall in Coulson Street, Blackbutt at 2:00pm this afternoon. Performers who'll be appearing today include the South Burnett Chorale, Bob and Michelle Ovenden, Jeff Hancox, Noel and Val McGrath, flautist Leah Noll, the Blackbutt Singers, the South Burnett Musical Comedy Society, the Taromeo Country Music Club, Sing Australia, Voice Mayhem, the South Burnett Youth Choir and the Blackbutt Line Dancers. Tickets are $10 per head and there'll also be multi-draw raffles and a Lions BBQ in operation. Proceeds will go to assist distressed farmers. Everyone is welcome!
Free Sausage Sizzle - Nanango
St Anne's Anglican Church at 110 Burnett Street, Nanango will be holding a free sausage sizzle at 10:00am this morning to officially open "The Shed", an extension to the church's shop funded by Stanwell Corporation which provides a meeting place for lonely and isolated people in Nanango. Metal Helmet Workshop - Nanango
The Winds Of Change Art Gallery in George Street, Nanango will be holding a weekend-long workshop in metal helmet making from 9:00am to 4:00pm today (and also tomorrow). The workshop will teach participants how to make a medieval metal helmet and a fully qualified armourer will be on hand to assist. NAIDOC Golf Day - Murgon
To wrap up NAIDOC Week, the annual NAIDOC Golf Cup will be held at the Murgon Golf Club on the Bunya Highway in Murgon today. This is an 18 hole, 3 person ambrose for registered an non-registered, indigenous and non-indigenous players alike. There'll be prizes and trophies for NTP, Longest Drive, Best Fancy Dress and "Best Team NAme" along with raffles. The Cup traditionally draws players from all over south-east Queensland and green fees are just $10 per head, which includes a BBQ at the presentation.
