New Years Day Public Holiday
Today is New Years Day, a public holiday. Most South Burnett businesses will either be closed today or operating on restricted hours. Today also marks the start of the United Nations' International Year of Water Cooperation, Quinoa and Small Island Developing States; the second month of summer in the southern hemisphere; the start of the South Burnett's 2012-13 vintage, which will begin a little later this month when the first white grapes are harvested; and the final weeks of the summer school vacation (classes will resume on Tuesday, January 29). Pickled Galah New Years Eve Rally - Maidenwell
- The third (and final) day of the 6th annual three-day Pickled Galah New Years Eve Rally will be held at the Maidenwell Hotel in Maidenwell today. Over the whole three days the Rally will feature a variety of events including Ned Kelly's Bike Show and the Boyd Yung Motorcycle Rally Awards; last night's "Creatures Of The Night" fancy dress party; this morning's "What Happened To The Creatures Of The Night?" end result; a Wet T-Shirt Competition; Pub Olympics (including the infamous "Bike Jousting") and raffles. Camping will be available in the hotel's grounds (with $2 hot showers available too) and admission is just $25 for the full three days, which includes a special badge. The event is also fully catered, with a recovery brekkie available from 7:00am to 9:30am this morning. The Rally is open to Sunstate Riders only, though, so if you're not one of them you'll need to do your New Years Eve recovery elsewhere. You can obtain more details on the Pickled Galah website
