Raising Hell In Maidenwell Car Show 'N' Shine
The main public day of the three-day Raising Hell In Maidenwell Car Show 'N' Shine will be held at the Maidenwell Sportsgrounds (right next to the Maidenwell Hotel) all day today. This popular event - which is run by the South Burnett Gas Guzzlers to support local charities - features live music; a big Show'n'Shine focussing on hot rods, street machines and pre-1975 customs; and vintage and veteran caravans too. The day starts at 9:00am and will run into the evening. There'll be a pig-on-the-spit plus raffles, car games and other competitions. Cost for entry by the public is $2 - or $15 if you're entering your vehicle for display (which includes camping) - and everyone is welcome! For more information, contact Terry on 0409-496-167 or Trevor on 0488-486-603. Note: You can read what last year's Raising Hell In Maidenwell was like on this page of our website.
Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and routinely attract 320 to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Phone the Market Co-Ordinator on (0427) 631-273 during business hours. Note: Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington will be running a stand at the Markets today to ask for local public input on the Queensland Plan.
South Burnett Speedway Gala Presentation Dinner - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway will be holding their annual Gala Presentation Dinner in the Tobruk Room of Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 5:30pm onwards tonight. This semi-formal get-together (ties for men; no racing attire) celebrates the accomplishments of drivers throughout the season, as well as the hugely successful 2012-13 season the club has enjoyed itself. Everyone - driver or fan - is very welcome to come along. In addition to a two-course dinner there'll also be live musical entertainment, trivia, DVD reviews and more. Tickets are $40 per adult or $20 per child, but they need to be booked and paid for by June 24th to help plan the catering. You can obtain more details and/or make bookings by phoning Tanya Barron on (0487) 003-404.
Debbie Robertson - Kingaroy
Popular entertainer Debbie Robertson will be performing at the Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:30pm to 11:30pm this evening. Admission is free. More details? Phone the RSL on (07) 4162-1755
Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy and Murgon
After a one-week break last weekend because of the Winter school holidays, the 11th round of the 2013 Evolution Solar South Burnett Football League will be held in Kingaroy and Murgon today - and from now until the Grand Finals at the end of August, the pressure on all the teams will really start ramping up! In Kingaroy, current champions Nanango will face off against second place holders Gunners at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street in what looks like being a great set of matches, with 2nd Division toeing the line at 1:30pm; Womens Division at 3:15pm; and 1st Division at 5:00pm. And at Murgon, home team Barambah will play Wests at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Steet in what promises to be an equally interesting set of matches, with both teams all over the ladder at the moment and the outcome of any individual game far from clear. 2nd Division will head out at 1:30pm; Women's Division at 3:15pm; and First Division at 5:00pm. Spectators and supporters are very welcome, and a canteen and BBQ will be operating at both venues too.
Lamb On A Spit Night At Captains Paddock - Booie
Captains Paddock Vineyard at Millers Road in Booie will be holding a Lamb Spit Roast this evening, with catering supplied by Dion Gott. It will feature local, organically- grown meat with baked vegies backed up by a home-made dessert. However seating is limited and bookings are essential: (07) 4162-4534.
Saturday Rugby League - Cherbourg
The 11th round of the 2013 South Burnett Premier League competition will be held at Jack O'Chin Oval in Cherbourg today - and it'll be an A-Grade Double Header. In the first match of the day, the Nanango Stags will take on the Blackbutt-Yarraman Timbertowners at 1:00pm in what could be a very interesting match. The Timbertowners have been improving their form ever since winter began, while last week's surprise upset draw between the Stags and the Hornets has shown that there may be more depth in the Nanango side than many thought. So who'll win is anyone's guess, but it should be pretty grat footy. And in the second match at 3:00pm, the Cherbourg Hornets will take on the Wondai Wolves in another match that should be just as interesting to watch. In the last few weeks both of these leading teams seem to have come off the boil a bit. However the Hornets will be keen to score a win on their home turf, and the Wolves will be just as keen to reverse last Saturday's surprise defeat at the hands of the Timbertowners. Spectators and supporters are very welcome! Note: Because of the school holidays there won't be any junior rugby league matches played this week.
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Youth Suicide Night - Nanango
The Nanango RSL in Henery Street will be holding a special Youth Suicide Night (aimed at prevention, not cause) from 5:30pm until late tonight. Four different entertainers will be performing and there'll also be guest speakers. More details fom the RSL on (07) 4163-1375.
Art Exhibition Openings - Kingaroy
Kingaroy will have two separate art exhibitions opening today - one at the Kingaroy Art Gallery in Haly Street, and the other at the Nimue Gallery around the corner in King Street. The Kingaroy Art Gallery's July exhibition will open at 11:00am, and it features new works by local mother and daughter artists Jenny and Rachel Gemmell, along with Toowoomba and Sunshine Coast artists Trish Robson, Fiona Cockfield and Michael Bishop. The rear gallery features a new exhibition of paper tole works ("Tole'd With Paper") by Rosemarie Matthews-Frederick, while the front gallery features new works by members of the Jumping Ant Arts Group. Then at 1:00pm, the nearby Nimue Art Gallery will be opening their new joint exhibition of watercolours, pastels and acrylics by South Burnett artists Joy Carter and Trish Erkens entitled "For The Joy Of It All", which will be accompanied by a great afternoon tea. Admission to both openings is free and everyone is welcome!
Booie Hall Dance Committee Meeting
A meeting will be held at Booie Hall at 10:30am this morning to discuss the future of the Booie Hall dances. For the last year the dances have run at a loss because of declining attendances, and the committee either has to find ways to boost numbers or will have no choice but to close the Booie Hall dances down. Anyone with an interest in the matter is welcome to attend. More details? Phone Kathy on (07) 4163-2741.
Dance - Tablelands Hall
A dance (and dance lessons, if you need them) will be held at Tablelands Hall from 6:30pm until late tonight (supper is served at 6:30pm; dancing will follow afterwards). The dance will feature old time and new vogue numbers and admission includes the supper. Entry is $10 for adults, $5 for high school students and $2.50 for anyone else. Everyone is welcome! More details? Phone Joan on (07) 4168-6116.
Clydesdale State Junior Championships and Gelding Show - Kingaroy
The Queensland branch of the Commonwealth Clydesdale Horse Society will be holding their Junior State Championships and a Gelding Show at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street today (and also tomorrow). Today's action will get underway at 10:00am, with judging of colts and fillies aged three and under. Entry is free and anyone with an interest in the breed is very welcome.
Social Bowls Afternoon - Wondai
Tomorrow is Reserve Forces Day, and to mark the occasion the Wondai Country Club on the Bunya Highway at Wondai will be holding a Social Bowls Afternoon from 12:00 noon onwards today. Green fees and a BBQ lunch will be available at minimal cost, and everyone - bowlers and non-bowlers alike - are very welcome to come and enjoy a relaxed afternoon of socialising. Dress is casual, and you'll need soft-soled shoes if you're going to venture out on the greens. More details from the country club: (07) 4168-5582.
