A Blackbutt police officer has been praised after helping rescue a family dog from a house fire in Blackbutt North earlier this month.

Emergency services were called to Myrtle Court about 6:40am on June 2 after reports a house was on fire.

A short time later, the home’s 91-year-old owner and sole occupant alerted the officer that his dog was trapped on the front veranda.

A police spokesperson said the Blackbutt officer, without hesitation, climbed over a railing and on to the verandah, safely retrieving the dog from the danger area.

The dog was successfully reunited with her owner.

No serious injuries were reported and all emergency responders involved – and the chihuahua – were not injured.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious.

  1. How heartwarming! For many a pet is family, and in an emergency they can be overlooked. It’s lovely to see that the dog was saved and reunited with its owner.
