The State Government has approved the start of early works on the Paradise Dam wall reconstruction project.
These works will include construction of a temporary accommodation village, two concrete batch plants and the establishment of support facilities.
Road upgrades to cater for the increased traffic during construction, geotechnical and quarry investigations are also continuing.
The detailed business case for the dam upgrades is expected to be delivered to the State Government early next year.
A government spokesperson said the Paradise Dam project sought to address safety concerns, with a focus on ensuring the new dam wall’s structural integrity and its capacity to meet the demands of a growing population and changing climate.
Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie said early works for the new dam wall would restore water security for the region.
“Today’s announcement is a significant step in the right direction to deliver a new dam wall, which will support jobs, safeguard Bundaberg’s $2 billion agricultural industry, and benefit the community for generations to come,” he said.
