Kingaroy’s Apex Park lookout, located in Coral Street above Apex Park, will get its famous view over Kingaroy restored in the next four months

One of Kingaroy’s long-forgotten tourist attractions will be given a new lease of life in the next few months.

The Apex Park lookout in Coral Street, whose view over Kingaroy has been obscured by trees for years, will be refurbished by the South Burnett Regional Council.

On Tuesday, Mayor Keith Campbell said Council would trim trees near the lookout to open up the view; correct defects in the lookout’s viewing platform; and seal its car park.

The work is expected to occur during the next four months.

“I know this has been on the wish list of many people for some time, so I’m pleased to announce that it’s happening,” the Mayor said.

The lookout was originally developed by the Kingaroy Apex Club in the 1960s, along with the adjoining Apex Park further down the hillside in Fisher Street.

The lookout’s viewing platform has gradually deteriorated during the years and the view – once the subject of picture postcards – has become obscured.

The lookout was once regarded as one of the town’s major tourist attractions and still features in tourist literature and on many websites including Queensland.com and the Council’s Discover South Burnett website.

In 2013 the Council undertook a major upgrade of the park, and later that year former Apexians who were involved in the park’s construction met up to re-dedicate it.

However, the upgrade works did not extend to the lookout due to budget constraints at that time.
